Pack your backpack and let's discover the magic of the hottest island in the Gulf of Thailand together! In 12 days, we'll explore my absolute favorite islands in the Gulf of Thailand, learn kitesurfing (or another water sport), and party the night away at the best beach bars. Itinerary: Bangkok 🏙️ -> Koh Tao -> 🏝️ Koh Phangan 🏝️ -> Surat Thani 🛫 _____________________________________________ ℹ️ OVERVIEW: 🙋🏼♂️ Your Tripmates: Timo 🇩🇪🙋🏼♂️ - Trip leader Thomas 🇩🇪🙋🏼♂️ - Tripmate Arthur 🇩🇪🙋🏼♂️ - Tripmate Day 1-2: Arrival in Bangkok 🏙️ We will meet in Bangkok at 6 p.m. at the latest for dinner, get to know each other, and discuss the next few days before we can check out Bangkok's nightlife. The next day, we will have time for a short sightseeing tour (optional, depending on how long the night was) before we take the night bus or night train to southern Thailand and on to the islands. Day 2-5: Koh Tao - The diving paradise 🏝️ The island of Koh Tao is a relatively small island and offers a relaxed start to our Thailand action trip. Koh Tao is especially famous for its underwater world. There is a wide range of diving schools to choose from and prices are low due to the high level of competition. If you're planning to take a diving course, this is the place to be (✅ Open Water Course included instead of kite surfing course). You can decide spontaneously on the island, but please let's talk about it in advance, as we may have to change the schedule. Days 5-11: Koh Phangan - Action Island 🪁🏄♂️🍻 Koh Phangan was an insider tip many years ago, when backpackers and hippies from all over the world celebrated a big party on Haad Rin beach once a month. Nowadays, the Full Moon Party attracts thousands of guests every month to drink cocktails in colorful neon shirts from beach buckets and dance to electronic music on the sand. But the island has much more to offer than just this one party night. I've decided to finally learn how to kitesurf properly and am looking forward to finding fellow enthusiasts! I had the chance to try kitesurfing in Portugal a few years ago and now want to finally learn how to do it properly, but I'll be starting from scratch as a complete beginner. Koh Phangan offers ideal conditions for kitesurfing: flat, wide beaches, constant wind, calm, crystal-clear water, and all at a water temperature of 26-27 degrees, which makes a wetsuit unnecessary. The kite school guarantees that after 6-10 hours of lessons at the latest, 95% of all students will be able to kite independently. I'm not quite that ambitious, but I'm trying to learn as much as possible during our time on the island. Are you already an experienced kitesurfer? Welcome aboard! Instead of lessons, you can get started right away and receive all the kite equipment you need free of charge for 2 full days. Kitesurfing probably isn't for you, but you don't want to miss out on the action? Alternatively, you can try the following sports (✅ included in the price as an alternative to kitesurfing): - Electro Foil beginner course (4 lessons) - Wing Foil beginner course (4 lessons) 🪁 - Scuba diving open water course on Koh Tao (4 dives) 🤿 From Koh Phangan, you can fly back to Bangkok (BKK, DMK) via Surat Thani (URT) or, if you still have time, visit the other islands on the west coast (Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, Koh Lanta, etc.). _____________________________________________ What can you expect on this trip? ➕ 100% backpacking feeling 🎒 ➕ Learn the basics of kitesurfing 🪁🏄♂️ ➕ Alternatively, get your diving license and discover Thailand's underwater world 🪁🏄♂️ ➕ Enjoy the best beaches Thailand has to offer 🤿🐠 ➕ A cool international travel group that's up for action, partying, and traveling 🌏🤗 ➕ Enjoy cool drinks and fire shows in trendy beach bars 🔥 ➕ Enough time to explore the islands on your own or chill in a hammock 🌿 What is included in the price? ✅ All transfers (night bus/train, taxi, speedboat, ferry, bus, minivan) ✅ Accommodations (in shared twin bed rooms/bungalows) ✅ Kitesurfing 6-hour beginner course (IKO licensed kite school) ✅ 2x full day kitesurfing equipment (only if you are a pro and don't need lessons) ✅ Scuba diving open water course (instead of kite surfing course) ✅ 2 days scooter rental Koh Phangan (shared scooter, without insurance) ✅ Free Thailand SIM card (4G/5G internet) during our trip ✅ 24/7 customer service and support. What is not included in the trip price? ❌ (International) flights to/from Bangkok/Surat Thani ❌ Daily meals, snacks, and drinks (approx. $10–$15 per day) ❌ Scooter fuel & insurance (approx. $2 per day) ❌ If needed, additional kite surfing lessons ❌ If needed, single room upgrade (approx. $15-30 per day) ❌ Everything else which is marked with ❌ or not listed _____________________________________________ ℹ️ TRAVEL TIME: High season 🌞 We will be traveling during the high season. At this time of year, Thailand is always very busy, but the really large crowds tend to gather on the more famous islands (Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi). The weather is good for kitesurfing, with decent winds and only a few rainy days per month (and even then, it's just a shower), and daytime temperatures around 30-33°C. _____________________________________________
🙋🏼♂️ ABOUT YOUR TRIPLEADER: I have been exploring the world for 10 years now and have lost my heart to Thai culture. In 2024, I moved to Bangkok with my girlfriend Hannah from Germany. From here, I regularly travel to new and old regions throughout Asia. Since Hannah can only travel during school vacations, I look forward to meeting cool trip mates from all over the world so that I don't always have to discover the most amazing places in Southeast Asia on my own. On my JoinMyTrip trips so far, I have repeatedly found that many people would like to travel more often and explore the world, but cannot find a suitable travel partner among their friends or family. I know from my own experience how daunting it can be to set off alone to a foreign country. To make this step easier, I share my own backpacking and solo trips on JoinMyTrip. My goal is to inspire others to discover new countries and cultures, experience the joy of traveling, and overcome their fear of the unknown. _____________________________________________ ❓HOW DO I TRAVEL? I am a frugalist and a fan of simple living in complete independence. I am also a vegetarian and prefer an inexpensive and sustainable backpacking travel style. That means: - (Carry-on) backpack 🎒 instead of suitcase 🧳🚫 - Simple, clean rooms in local guesthouses 🏡 or friendly hostels 🏠 instead of international hotel chains. - Good and inexpensive local food on the street 🍲 - Beer 🍺 and cocktails 🍹 during happy hour instead of fancy drinks at a rooftop bar 🍸 - Traveling like the locals, slower but 100% authentic 🚂 - Sightseeing on your own 🛵 instead of organized tourist groups with guides 🚐 _____________________________________________ 👀 MY EXPECTATIONS: My ideal trip mates share a passion for simple and authentic backpacking travel and are eager to test themselves above or below the water's surface and learn new things. Even though more and more flashbackers, digital nomads, and package tourists are now flocking to the islands in the Gulf of Thailand, for me, these three islands are the origin of the backpacker scene in Thailand, and there are still secluded and beautiful beaches to be found. 🤗 ❗IMPORTANT❗We are going on a BACKPACKING trip. 😉 On this trip, we will be traveling with many different means of transportation, and suitcases can sometimes be really impractical (I will be able to show you plenty of real-life examples on site). I therefore prefer trip mates who will swap their suitcases for backpacks. 🧳🚫 If you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas, feel free to send me a message and let's chat in advance. :-)
_____________________________________________ ℹ️ ACCOMMODATION: During our trip, we will stay in simple but clean and well-maintained hostels 🏠 or family-run homestays and bungalow resorts 🏡. The accommodations are basic but in good locations, some may even have a pool, but don't expect 4* all-inclusive hotel complexes. ;) As a rule, 2 people always stay in a double room (separate beds, of course), usually with a private bathroom, but in some cases with a shared bathroom (depending on the size of the group). It is almost always possible (depending on availability at the Full Moon Party) to upgrade to a private room. The costs must then be paid on site (€15-30 extra per night, not included ❌). _____________________________________________ ℹ️ Traveling safely as a woman ♀ and LGBTQ 🏳️🌈: I know that it can be a big decision to embark on an adventure with unknown travel partners from different cultures. To ensure that you feel safe and respected from the start, I offer you the following options: 1) Separate rooms 🚪 If no other women are traveling with us, you can request a single room or a bed in a same-sex dormitory at no extra charge. This way, you always have a private retreat and a personal safe space. 2) Female contact person 🙋🏻♀️ On all trips starting in Bangkok, you can meet my partner Hannah at our first dinner together. If you prefer to talk to a woman while traveling, you can contact Hannah or my co-trip leader Lama (JoinMyTrip) for confidential conversations. 3) Freedom of choice – even after the trip has started ⛔ If you realize in the first few days that the chemistry is unexpectedly not right and the situation cannot be improved despite discussion, you can cancel the trip without any major financial risk. 💵 You will receive a full refund of the trip price in local currency, minus: ➖ costs already incurred (accommodation, activities, transportation) ➖ JoinMyTrip fee (15% – may be refunded by JMT) ➖ non-refundable bookings (e.g., flights, train/bus, accommodation) This means you will usually get up to 70% of your trip price back. Your gut feeling always takes precedence – money should never be an obstacle if you feel uncomfortable. _____________________________________________ If you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas, feel free to send me a message and let's chat beforehand to get to know each other better. :-)
