And a Madeira you probably didn’t know existed. ⛰️🌊 Hi adventurers! 👋 I am Figo and if your dream Madeira holiday consists of hopping off a cruise ship, taking a picture in Funchal and queueing with 200 people for the same viewpoint… this might not be your trip. 😄 If, on the other hand, you want to discover the wild side of Madeira, walk old paths through the mountains, follow forgotten levadas through the forest, find waterfalls far away from the usual tourist routes and spend a week with a small group of people who are actually up for an adventure… Welcome. You found us. 🌿 🏝️ We thought we knew Madeira. Then things escalated. What started years ago as a simple hiking trip turned into something slightly more serious. We stayed. We explored. We got mildly obsessed. And somewhere along the way, we met people who showed us that even after years on this island, there was still an entirely different Madeira hiding behind the famous hiking routes. Old levadas. Forgotten paths. Remote valleys. Ridgelines. Waterfalls. Tiny local restaurants. Places you would probably never randomly stumble across during a normal week on Madeira. Some places took us months to find. One waterfall alone took us six months of exploring before we finally reached it. So at some point we thought: Why not turn all of this into one ridiculous week? 🤷‍♂️ And that’s exactly what this trip is. 🥾 Not your standard hiking holiday We’ll spend the week exploring Madeira together on five different hiking adventures. Instead of simply ticking off the usual guidebook highlights, we focus on alternative routes and lesser-known parts of the island. Expect ancient levadas, dense Laurisilva forest 🌿, mountains ⛰️, waterfalls 💦, ridiculous viewpoints, local stories and the kind of places that make you wonder why nobody told you about them before. And because Madeira is Madeira, there is intentionally no rigid Monday 09:00 itinerary carved into stone. We check the weather, clouds and conditions and decide which adventure makes the most sense. The island decides. We adapt. 🌅 And after hiking? Technically, the hiking is the reason we’re here. Technically. 😏 But some of our favourite moments happen afterwards. A spontaneous sunset. Dinner somewhere local. A viewpoint on the way home. A BBQ at the villa. A Poncha that somehow becomes three Ponchas. 🍹 Sitting around the table talking nonsense until far too late. Or doing absolutely nothing. Because our philosophy has always been: Everything can. Nothing has to. This is your holiday. If everyone wants to go watch the sunset, amazing. If you want to disappear for an afternoon with a book, equally amazing. We’re creating the possibilities, not a school trip itinerary. 🏡 Your home for the week We have two beautiful villas available and will choose the final accommodation depending on the number of people joining the trip. And no, this does not mean we’re going to put you into Uncle Pedro’s suspicious basement if only six people book. 😂 We’ve been hosting people on Madeira for years and we’re pretty picky about where we stay. Our accommodation will always be a beautiful, spacious Madeira home that we would happily choose for our own holiday. The idea is simple: It shouldn’t just be somewhere you sleep. It should feel like our home for the week. 🌴 A place to have breakfast together, recover after the hikes, cook, have a drink, make plans and occasionally discuss whose hiking shoes smell the worst. 👥 The group matters This might actually be the most important part. You can have the most beautiful villa, the best trail and perfect weather… If the group sucks, the trip sucks. 😄 That’s why we care a lot about bringing together people who actually fit this kind of week. You don’t need to be an extreme athlete. You don’t need to know anyone beforehand. And you definitely don’t need to be the loudest person in the room. You should simply be open-minded, reasonably fit, easy-going and genuinely excited about exploring Madeira with other people. Many people join alone. That’s kind of the beauty of it. You arrive as strangers. A week later you’re standing somewhere in the mountains together wondering how all of this happened. 🛏️ What’s included? Your trip includes: 🏡 Accommodation in one of our selected villas 🛏️ A bed in a twin room 🥾 Five hiking adventures during the week 🧭 Experienced local guidance 🌿 Our favourite lesser-known Madeira experiences 👥 A carefully put-together group 🌅 Spontaneous sunsets, viewpoints and little extras whenever they fit ❤️ A frankly unreasonable amount of Madeira enthusiasm Food, rental cars and other shared expenses are handled separately and divided transparently within the group. Simple, fair and uncomplicated. 📅 What does the week look like? We meet at the villa on Saturday from around 5 PM. First priority: arrive. Second priority: meet everyone. Third priority: figure out who brought enough hiking socks. We’ll sit together, introduce ourselves and discuss the week ahead. Over the following days we’ll do five hiking tours, leaving us with a free day for recovery, exploring, beach time or whatever the group feels like doing. Usually we’ll have breakfast together before heading out. But the exact hiking schedule remains flexible because Madeira’s microclimates have absolutely no interest in our planning skills. ☁️🌞🌧️ We choose the best route for the conditions. 🤔 Is this trip for you? Probably YES if… 🌿 you prefer adventures over tourist checklists 🥾 hiking is actually something you enjoy 👥 you’re joining alone and want to meet interesting people ⛰️ you want to see a side of Madeira most visitors never experience 🍷 you appreciate spontaneous evenings as much as planned activities 😄 you don’t take yourself too seriously 🗺️ you’d rather collect stories than attractions Probably NO if… your ideal Madeira experience is hotel → pool → buffet → repeat. Nothing wrong with that. We just wouldn’t be very good at providing it. 😂 💰 Why this trip? Comparable guided adventure weeks can become very expensive very quickly, especially when accommodation and multiple guided experiences are involved. We wanted to create something different: A genuine Madeira adventure that still feels like travelling with a group of friends. Behind these routes are years of exploring, countless kilometres, failed attempts, local knowledge and an embarrassing amount of time spent staring at mountains thinking: “There must be a path through there.” Sometimes there was. Sometimes… not so much. 😂 What you’re booking isn’t simply five hikes and a bed. You’re joining the result of all that exploration. 🌍 One last thing… Madeira is beautiful on Instagram. It’s considerably better when you’re standing somewhere in the mountains, sweaty, slightly confused about how you got there and looking at a view you didn’t even know existed twenty minutes earlier. That’s the Madeira we fell in love with. And that’s the Madeira we’d like to show you. 🚀 So… coming with us? If you’ve read this far, there’s a reasonably good chance you’re exactly the kind of person we’re looking for. Don’t overthink it. Book your spot, pack your hiking shoes and come to Madeira. 🌿🥾 We’ll take care of the adventure. See you on the island! 🌴

Hi, my name is Figo, I’m 35 years old from Germany. I’m living on Madeira since 2021 - discovering places that are far away off the beaten path. 2 a year we are sharing those hidden gems with a small group through JMT.

Accommodation 🏡🌴 We’ve rented two beautiful villas for the trip and will choose the final one depending on the number of people joining us. So basically: the group size decides which house becomes home for the week. And don’t worry, we’re quite picky when it comes to accommodation. 😄 We’ve been organizing these trips for years and have always found beautiful, spacious houses that we’d happily book for our own holiday. So no mystery basement, no “looks better in the photos” situation. Just a proper Madeira home, plenty of space for the group and a great base for our adventures. 🌿⛰️

Ribeira do Inferno, Madeira

Day 1-2
Ribeiro Frio hike. Easy one, get to know each other. Lunch in that Area (Faísca is good Restaurant there)... Without saying too much... You can enjoy the natural heritage of the island, since the trail is full of endemic species of regional flora and fauna. The magnificent vegetation fills the eyes and soul of the hikers, involving them in a peaceful environment. The shining sun infiltrates between the laurels and other plants of this area.

Boaventura

Day 2-3
The Pico do Alto ridge hike is one of the most incredible adventures on the north coast of Madeira Island. The ridge will test the vertigo of hikers while providing incredible views of Sao Jorge on one side of the ridge and Boaventura on the other side. The ocean and mountains combine to make this one of the most scenic trails on the island.

Ponta do Pargo

Day 3-4
Levada Ponta Do Pargo trail is a coastal hike on the western side of Madeira Island. It’s an epic route for sunset with incredible views of the sea cliffs and azure blue waters. As well as the coastal scenery, the trail leads you up into the forest as you follow the Levada through the rolling hills, all the time with ocean views.

Porto da Cruz

Day 4-5
Espigão Amarelo is one of my favorite coastal hikes on Madeira. It truly has it all. Beginning on the famous Vereda do Larano, this trail takes a secret detour up onto the gnarly ridge of Espigão Amarelo. This trail ended through some ‘Mars’ like landscapes with red rocky terrain but truly had it all from cloud forests, cliff-edge coastal views, and vast plains.

Funchal

Day 5-6
A day for relaxing, sightseeing, maybe an island tour or ordering a physio ... Whatever, this is a free day and we can see how we would like to spend this day. We are happy to show you around the best spots or give some advices... Another option could be the famous and popular tour from peak to peak - see photo number 1. We will definitely choose the best options depending how everybody feels like.

Ribeiro Frio

Day 6-7
It’s funny how tourism works. On one side of the road you have the ever-popular Vereda Dos Balcões hike and on the other you have the Ribeiro Frio to Portela/Chão das Feiteiras routes. When I visited Vereda Dos Balcões there were hundreds of tourists and when I walked the Ribeiro Frio to Chão das Feiteiras levada, I saw not one person. What I’m trying to say to you here is, if you want a slice of tranquility make sure you end up on the correct side of the road.
