10 Travel Safety Tips You Should Know

by | Jul 10, 2021 | Uncategorized

How you can have a safe adventure

We’ve all heard it: stay safe! Sometimes this advice is very necessary, even if we don’t want to listen to it. We’ve all also had our fair share of travel fails and things gone wrong when traveling (which usually turn into memories you can laugh back on), but here’s a few tips on how you can avoid getting yourself in trouble!

10. Travel in a group

It’s always good to have an extra set of eyes around you and a bunch of TravelMates you know have your back. Plus, if you’re by yourself, you’re just an easier target! Plus, traveling with others also usually means that there are different skill sets in the group that can be of value on the trip. One person knows how to navigate the city and the other is an expert on all things food. Win-win! Check out the most underrated destinations for group travel to start planning your adventure!

9. Have your travel insurance sorted

Just in case anything goes wrong, it’s important that you know you have your insurance to back you up. Whether you get your stuff stolen or have an accident, it’s good to know you won’t be having to cover the entirety of those costs. Travel safe with JoinMyTrip- Germans and Austrians are covered by Allianz insurance, including Covid-19 coverage… so you can travel stress-free!

8. Ask locals for the best tips

The locals know their city the best… so ask them what to watch out for when it comes to safety (the do’s and don’ts). We all know that as a tourist you’ll most likely stick out like a sore thumb but asking locals for some hot tips might help out with this a little. Not just for safety, but for other things- locals are your best advice-givers. Want to know about the most hoppin’ bars in town? Ask a local! 7. Hold tight onto your bag

Especially in busy cities, it’s important that you know where your bag is at all times. Whether in Paris or London, carry your bag at the front. Speaking of Paris… here’s a guide to the city of light and love! When sitting down at restaurants, have the handles of your bag wrapped around the leg of your chair… plus, with your TravelMates, you’ll always have an extra pair of eyes lookin’ out for ya!

6. Have your documents in more than one place

It’s always a good idea to have at least a few copies of your most important documents (passport, visa, etc.) Have a digital copy on your email, as well as perhaps one locked up in your hotel/hostel/Airbnb room and of course… the hard copies with you at all times, in your bag that is well secured! 😉

5. Tell your bank + some people where you’re at

Let your bank know where and when you’re going so they don’t think there’s suspicious activity on your account in some remote place! It’s also good to advise someone you know on your itinerary so that people at home aren’t worried on your behalf. This is especially true if you’re heading on a more remote trip, for example, one to go hiking somewhere off the grid. Of course, with your TripMates, you’ll always have someone to communicate on your behalf, but it’s good that someone at home knows what’s happening.

4. Pack a first aid kit

Always have the basic first aid items on you, so that in case little accidents happen, you can patch them up quickly! Unexpected things can happen while on the road, so remember to plan carefully. For example, if you’re heading to a sunny destination, it’s probably a good idea to consider sun safety! Here are some tips on how you can have the perfect beach vacay. ☀️

3. Be careful where you take your selfies!

This might seem obvious, but some cases do still happen where people hurt themselves in an effort of a good photo op. While sometimes this might be justified (hey, we all love a good Insta post) or a good idea, do be careful when taking photos and don’t put yourself in danger- it’s not worth it, even if it might seem like it! Here are some good spots for photographers, where you can be sure to get a nice picture for your feed.

2. Write down emergency numbers

It’s also good to be aware of local emergency numbers, so you know where to run (or call) to if things go wrong. In stressful situations, your mind might not be able to think rationally or remember local emergency info, so always have it written down or already saved on your phone. Have more questions? 1. Research your destination country

There are some things that are very country-specific when it comes to safety, so it’s good to do your research on the destination and to do it well. Things to search for for example would be common travel scams in the country, theft, transportation safety, and health risks (are there common diseases in the country or some vaccines you should be prepared to take before visiting?).
