New Year's Eve & Wild Transylvania: Bisons, Castles & Winter Trekking 🇷🇴

✨ TRIP DESCRIPTION This isn't your average New Year's Eve where you spend a fortune to get bored in a crowded club. This is a trip for those who want to start 2026 feeling fully alive. 🌃 THE START: Urban Vibes & Underground Jazz It all begins in Timișoara, a city that vibrates with energy. We won't be typical tourists: we will get lost in historic neighborhoods to hunt down hidden Jazz Clubs in basements and toast with fresh unpasteurized craft beer (the legendary Timișoreana) straight from the source. On NYE, we’ll be in the main square with the locals and have fun in an iconic hostel, enjoying the atmosphere of a young city. 🚗 THE ROAD TRIP: Into the Wild On the morning of January 1st, while the rest of the world is sleeping off the hangover, we grab the car and leave civilization behind. We will drive through the Transylvanian forests on roads that look like they were designed for driving. Our first stop is a blast from the past: the Bison Reserve. Seeing these prehistoric giants walking in the snow, in the absolute silence of the winter forest, will make you feel like you are inside a documentary. 🏰 GOTHIC LEGENDS Then, the showstopper: Corvin Castle. Forget Disney. This is a real, dark, imposing gothic castle with drawbridges suspended over rocky abysses. With the winter mist or snow, it looks like a scene from The Witcher or Dracula. It is hands down the most photogenic place in Romania. ❄️ MOUNTAINS & ICE We don’t stop there. Our base will be Sibiu, the medieval city where the roofs have "eyes" that watch you (seriously, Google it!). From there, we head up to Păltiniș for an accessible but spectacular snow trek, breathing the crisp air of the Carpathians. 🛣️ THE GRAND FINALE: The Best Road in the World And finally: the Transfăgărășan. Even though the high pass is closed, we will drive up to the Bâlea Waterfall, where the water freezes into natural ice sculptures. We can also think about taking the cable car up to the frozen Bâlea Lake (2034m) to visit the famous Hotel of Ice, a unique structure built entirely from snow and ice blocks from the lake.
