Are you someone who loves to explore different cultures and destinations around the globe with like-minded individuals? Then you're in for a treat because you can join me for a 2-week-long backpacking trip to the coast of Kenya. Mombasa, Diani, Watamu, Malindi and Lamu. The tropical vibes are real and you don't want to miss it. You will witness the cultural heritage and beauty of the local people. I will be taking care of all accommodation, daily transportation, and activities, so all you would need is to pack your backpack book a flight ✈️ to Mombasa, and bring your vibes, hat, bikinis, or swimming costume, and sunglasses for Instagrammable photos.

About me! Hi! I'm Joan and I'm a travel enthusiast who lives in Mombasa, Kenya. Having hosted travelers around the world in Mombasa, It's my time to expand my horizons, and having you on this trip will be the moment of truth. The wide knowledge I have gathered over the years in Mombasa has made me become a travel host, especially for travelers who want to experience the local culture and interact with the locals. The trip itinerary is provided, but it is flexible. Also, I've done my research and will be there to recommend the best spots for brunches, clubs, spas, etc.

Details about the accommodation: We will have 3 options for our accommodation. Depending on the numbers, we will either opt for hostels, apartments, or private Villas. All these accommodation options are available in most of the areas we will be and can be booked last minute. The hostels are available for backpackers in Mombasa, Diani, and Kilifi. Malindi, Watamu, and Lamu we can go big on the Villas and apartments. So come prepared, no bad experience here. If something is not clear you can reach out to me in the Q&A section on this trip!

Mombasa

Day 1-3

You will be picked up from the Airport to our accommodation in Mombasa. Mombasa is known for its vibrant food culture and we will start our adventure in the evening with delicious Swahili dishes as we walk along the streets and taste street food. Food culture is a thing here. We will also go to Fort Jesus, Spice Market, Old Town, Mama Ngina waterfront, Nguuni nature sanctuary, and Bamburi Beaches. Maximum 3 days.

Diani Beach

Day 3-7

We will arrive at our accommodation, relax, and enjoy the serene and white sandy beaches, and some party time for Diani nightlife. The next day go to Borabora Wildlife Park, visit the Gazi Mangrove boardwalk, Kongo river, Shimba hills, and go to Funzi /Chale/Robinson island. Maximum 4 days.

Watamu

Day 7-9

We will pass by Jumba la Mtwana for some history, then head to Watamu. Watamu has a lot of water activities as well and we will opt for boats, canoes, or the Dhow cruise. Visit the Prawnslake conservation area for mangroves and some village tours. Maximum 3 days.

Malindi

Day 9-11

Here, we will go to Vasco da gamma pillar, Hell's kitchen marafa is very hot so it takes a small hike to the place and Mambrui sand dunes, we call it little Dubai. This is also the place we will go from Malindi Airport to Lamu island. Maximum 3 days.

Lamu

Day 11-15

Your Kenyan coast adventures are not complete without visiting Lamu Tamu. Lamu is a UNESCO heritage site and it is an island filled with rich history and vibes. Prepare yourself to finish your trip in a calm storm where life is chilled with a lot of shows, boats, and vibrant culture. Maximum 5 days. From here, you can head back home feeling rejuvenated and hoping to come back soon.
