From Sfakia, a beautiful 6-km hike leads to the charming white village of Loutro, only accessible on foot or by boat. We might consider spending the night there, or taking the ferry back.

Day 3-4
The most remote of the Greek islands is also the southernmost point of Europe. A former hippy paradise, it hosts some of the very best beaches in the country - such as Potamos.

Heraklion

Day 4-5
After taking the ferry from Gavdos to Sfakia or Sougia, I reach Heraklion in the evening. The Cretan capital has some definite sights, like the Venetian walls and the second most important archeological museum of Greece, plus a decent nightlife.

Thera

Day 5-7
The stunning caldera is unique in the world, and its views are some of the most famous postcards of Greece. The Thera-Oia trail, the castle of Pyrgos, the sunsets in general, the hot springs in the crater, and the beaches of Akrotiri are the most remarkable sights of this romantic island.

Icaria

Day 9-11
The comradeship of the inhabitants of this island is at the root of some of the most authentic folk festivals, where one can appreciate the traditional Greek dances and cusine. These are the crucial components of an healthy lifestyle that makes Ikaria one of the places where men live the longest in the world.

Chios

Day 11-13
Homer's (supposed) motherland has been renowned since the ancient times for its mastiha, a resin that the widespread lentisk only produces here. The graffiti decorations on the houses of Pyrgi as well as the Unesco-listed mosaics contribute further to Chios' uniqueness.
