Details about this trip
Hi, guys :) this time around we are going to live one of the most genuine Italian experience ever! Get ready to discover one of Italy's most spectacular regions: Puglia! While living surrounded by real Trulli, traditional dry stone huts, once used as temporary field shelters or storehouses by agricultural labourers 🧑🏼‍🌾, we will explore the area, in search of the gems of Apulia! We will visit places that are very famous among Italians, but still unknown to the international public, such as Polignano a Mare, Alberobello, Bari and more! Not only, during one day trip we will also explore another Italian Region, Basilicata! As a matter of fact we will get lost in the labyrinthine streets of the world-famous Matera, the so called City of Stones!

But first… it’s-a me, Giulia! I'm the typical Italian girl, raised on Margherita Pizza 🍕 and weird hands gestures! I love meeting new people and getting to know new cultures. Whether you are looking for a new friend, a new mum or a new mascotte, I can be the one for you 😬!

We are we going to stay? 🏠 Our home will be a REAL Trullo, located in Coriggia, right next to the gorgeous Alberobello! Everyone will have their own personal bed (shared rooms, with possibility for a private one with a little extra charge of 35€). What about the transportation? 🚕 I’ll be your private driver and we are going to use my own car, so we will only spend on gasoline and you can completely forget about the car rental fees since the bolide is already included 😬. I'll directly pick you up at the arrival Airport (Bari International Airport-Karol Wojtyla), around 2 PM (the specific time will be noticed in advance), so it will be necessary to arrive on the morning of the 4th! The trip costs include 💰: - Accommodation in a REAL TRULLO - Car (Toll booths included) - Oil Testing in a Masseria / 60 mins (Ostuni) - Electric tuk-tuk coastal tour / 40 mins (Polignano A mare) - Entrance ticket to Palombaro lungo - Entrance ticket to Grotta del Trullo - Wi-fi at the accommodation (But I still recommend you buying a Tourist SIM online, as the connection inside of a trullo is not always the most stable) - Travel Insurance (unluckily, for now, provided only for travellers from Germany and Austria) What is not included 💸: - Flights (Nevertheless, prices to Bari from major European cities are currently very affordable, between 50 and 200 euros. They can be a little more expensive coming outside Europe) - Meals (however southern Italy is famous for its cheap but YUMMY food. Plus I already visited the area and I now some CRAZY GOOD spots!) - Other activities not mentioned in “The trip costs include” - Gasoline/Parkings - Travel Insurance (except travellers from Germany and Austria) Following, you can find a video about few of our destinations among the others: Polignano a Mare, Bari & Alberobello! For more details about the itinerary and the place we are going to visit, take a look at the "Itinerary Section" below! For any other question or curiosity don’t mind to send me a message here on JoinMyTrip. Can’t wait to meet you soon, Giulia *The apartment and all the activities planned may be subject to variation based on both the weather and the number of TripMates. Every change to the original plan will be notified in advance and another option/experience will be provided instead.

Bari

Day 1
Estimated driving hours: 1h Defined as a preeminent city where traditions and intense flavors flourish in their most genuine expression, Bari is going to be our first stop. Right after having met at the airport, in fact, we are going to visit this old treasure, usually overshadowed by the more famous southern Italian cities such as Naples and Palermo. In Bari, we’ll explore “Via delle Orecchiette”, a very particular narrow street where local old women perform an open-air exhibition, with their countless racks on which they display fresh pasta 🍝. We’ll also visit Basilica di San Nicola, dedicated to the patron saint of the city, and historic hangout in front of the dock full of boats and alive with fishermen at work.

Alberobello

Day 1-7
Estimated driving hours: 1h 30min We'll start the day at Alberobello, famed in Italy for its characteristic Trulli, a constructive model of spontaneous architecture, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996! Right after we will stop quickly at Grotta del Trullo, a stunning karst cave located in Putignano. Discovered in 1931, it was the first cave in Apulia to be opened to tourists. The complex takes its name from the traditional trullo built right above its entrance, through which visitors descend a staircase into the enchanting underground world. Our third destination of the day will be Casamassima, a charming village known worldwide as Italy’s “Blue Village.” This small town stands out for its houses and alleyways, which are entirely painted in various shades of blue, reminiscent of the famous city of Chefchaouen in Morocco. Finally, our last stop will be Locorotondo, another characteristic apulian village.

Lecce

Day 7
Estimated driving hours: 3h 45min Will start the day in Lecce. Among other things, we will be able to admire: -Piazza Sant'Oronzo -The Roman Amphitheater -Sedile (also known as Palazzo del Seggio) -The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie After a nice lunch in the area (and maybe a taste of the famous undisputed king of Lecce pastries: the pasticciotto!). Right after we will depart for a one-of-a-kind place. The home of Vincent Maria Brunetti, an artist from Guagnano who, after a series of difficult experiences, created a “non-place” in his own image. Our next stop will be Monteruga, a small, abandoned village. The history of this village is quite unique, as it was founded during the Fascist era and was completely abandoned in the early 1980s.

Matera

Day 7
Estimated driving hours: 3h 15min On our fourth day together we will head to Matera, famous for its “Sassi” (Stones), a complex of houses, churches, monasteries and hermitages built into the natural caves of the Murgia (UNESCO World Heritage site). As we wander through the labyrinthine streets of the town, we’ll also visit the Palombaro Lungo, an imposing and incredibly distinctive water cistern located beneath Piazza Vittorio Veneto. On our way back home, we’ll stop in Cisternino, another quaint little town in Puglia.

Polignano a Mare

Day 7
Estimated driving hours: 1h 45min We’ll start the day with a scenic ride in an electric tuk-tuk through the highlights of Polignano a Mare, until we reach the Abbey (and village) of San Vito, a small historic seaside village. Once the tour is over, we’ll walk through the town again to soak up the atmosphere and stop at the famous Lama Monachile (or Cala Porto) beach. This iconic cove of white pebbles is located just behind the historic center and is particularly famous worldwide for hosting the Italian leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. In the afternoon we will move to Monopoli, which on the other hand, is definitely the least known of our destinations. But I assure you, you will fall in love with the narrow streets of the old town and the historic fort that was used to protect it.

Ostuni

Day 7
Estimated driving hours: 1h 45min On our last day of exploring together, we’ll visit Ostuni, the "White City", perched on a hill in the Murge, is a little gem to explore slowly. During the morning, before reaching the city centre, we will visit the Masseria Capece, where we will have a guided tour with olive oil tasting. And finally, if we still have time, we’ll try to visit the ancient, abandoned minaret in Fasano (it was still accessible during my last trip to the area, but it’s been three years).

Bari

Day 7
Estimated driving hours: 1h After one last breakfast together, I’ll take you back to the airport (the same one you arrived at). The final schedule will be determined once we know all your departure times. BUT PLEASE NOTE: I strongly recommend that you do not book flights before 1/2 PM. In fact, although we’ll try to arrive well in advance, flights before that time could be risky.
