Sri Lanka Basics

I am planning a round trip through the most beautiful natural landscapes, coastal sections and some of the cultural features of Sri Lanka. The larger cities and focal points for large crowds I would like to avoid due to the current political situation in Sri Lanka actually rather like, around certain hubs such as Colombo and Kandy one comes with a Sri Lanka Rundreisr probably unfortunately not around - but the stay there should be as short as possible. I would like to concentrate on the unique natural conditions - according to the motto "mountains & sea".

Trip Itinerary

Colombo

Day 1-2
Arrival and first overnight stay

Kandy

Day 2-4
Kandy is a large city in the center of Sri Lanka. It is located on a plateau in the middle of mountains with tea plantations and rainforests rich in species. In the center of the city is the idyllic Lake Kandy, also known as Lake Bogambara, which is popular with walkers. Kandy is famous for its Buddhist holy sites, including the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa), in whose honor the spectacular Esala Perahera procession is held annually.
3

Sigiriya

Day 4-5
Sigiriyais a monolith on which the ruins of a historic rock fortress are located. The name is derived from "Singha Giri", which means "Lion Rock". In 1982 Sigiriya was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The fortress was located on the eroded ruins of a butte, which rises about 200 meters from the plain and offers a perfect panoramic view. On the rock were the palace buildings, of which only the foundation walls can be seen today, as they were built of wood.
4

Nuwara Eliya

Day 5-7
You can hike the mountain Single Tree via Haddon Hill, from the top of which you have a wide view. Mount Pidurutalagala (English: Mount Pedro, 2,524 m) is closed to the public. On the outskirts of the city is the Hindu temple of Sita Eliya, where the demon king Ravana is said to be imprisoned. Near the city, around Sri Pada/Adam's Peak, is the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary National Park, home to big game (including leopards). In the Horton Plains, south of Nuwara Eliya, lies the Horton Plains National Park with a 1,050-meter-deep cliff called World's End. The mountainous region around the city also has several major waterfalls and reservoirs, such as Lake Gregory.
