Details about this trip
Green, fertile, and surrounded by mighty mountains: At an altitude of 1,900–2,400 meters, the Aït Bouguemez Valley is considered one of the most beautiful in the High Atlas. Hike through an untouched landscape set among apple orchards, walnut trees, and traditional Berber villages. Stay overnight in cozy mountain lodges with Berber families, enjoying homemade specialties and authentic insights into the local culture.

Hi, I’m Said Born in the majestic Atlas Mountains and raised in the vibrant streets of Marrakech, I know Morocco like the back of my hand. Since 2015, I’ve been living in Germany, bridging my two home countries to offer travelers truly authentic, safe, and personal adventures. As an officially licensed tour guide with over 14 years of experience, my passion is showing you the real Morocco, far beyond the usual tourist traps. Whether we’re hiking through pristine mountain valleys, cycling past Berber villages, or sharing tea with local families, I make sure every trip feels like traveling with a close friend who knows all the best secrets.

Guest houses (often called gîtes) are the ideal choice for travelers who want to experience authentic Moroccan life firsthand. Typically located in private homes, they offer a warm, family-like atmosphere where guests can connect directly with locals. The rooms are simple yet cozy, often paired with lovingly prepared traditional meals. This creates a truly authentic experience that offers genuine insights into daily Moroccan life—warm, relaxed, and unscripted. This journey is perfect for travelers who love hiking, nature, and meaningful cultural experiences rather than fast-paced sightseeing. Expect moderate daily hikes through breathtaking mountain landscapes, nights spent in welcoming Berber guesthouses, and the opportunity to experience Morocco from a truly local perspective. If you're looking to disconnect from everyday life, discover one of Morocco's most beautiful valleys, and share unforgettable moments with like-minded travelers, I'd be delighted to welcome you on this adventure. If you have any questions before booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Aït Bouguemez

Day 2-3
Today, our journey into the High Atlas Mountains begins. On our way to the remote Aït Bouguemez Valley, we visit the impressive Ouzoud Waterfalls, the highest in Morocco. Crashing down over lush green cliffs in several cascades, they offer a truly stunning natural spectacle! Our drive then leads us through Azilal and the Aït Abbas Valley into the "Happy Valley." After about five to six hours, we reach isolated Aït Bouguemez at an altitude of around 1,800 meters. In the afternoon, we take our first light hike through this fertile highland landscape with its iconic Berber villages. 🍽️ B, L, D |🚍 ca. 250 km, 5–6 | 🥾ca. 4 km

Day 3-4
After breakfast, we visit a local walnut cooperative in Timmit, where apple cider vinegar and cheese are produced alongside walnuts. We then hike through fertile farmland to the dramatically situated Sidi Moussa granary. Perched high above the valley, this well-preserved fortress once served as a storage facility for harvests and valuables, surrounded by ancient legends and local beliefs in the power of the holy Sidi Moussa. After our descent, we discover fossilized dinosaur footprints on large rock slabs, a fascinating window into prehistoric times. We then enjoy a delicious lunch in the shade of ancient walnut trees. In the afternoon, we continue to our accommodation in a beautiful kasbah in the heart of the valley, offering breathtaking views. 🍽️ B, L, D | 🥾 ca. 13 km ⏱ 4 – 5 h ↗ 62 m ↘ 90 m

Day 4-5
Today, we hike through the narrow Ahebak Valley up to the summer pastures of the semi-nomads. Over tea and conversation, a local nomad family gives us a rare glimpse into their daily life with their herds and tents. After a picnic lunch, we return along a different trail to the village of Ikhf n Ighir. Here, we meet more of the villagers and learn how their community life functions, a valuable addition to our morning encounter. The day wraps up with a traditional cooking class, where we learn how meals are prepared in the "Happy Valley" finishing off with artfully poured mint tea. 🍽️ B, L, D | 🥾 ca. 13 km ⏱ : 4 – 5 h. ↗ 120 m ↘ 120 m

Day 5-6
Today, we hike up to a vast, barren high plateau that strongly evokes the open steppes of Tibet. Nomads also inhabit this area with their herds and tents. Nestled beneath the impressive Azourki mountain massif lies Lake Izourar, which usually dries up in summer and serves as a haven for many migratory birds. Thanks to the fertile soil, the region is highly valued by the Aït Atta nomads. In summer, they journey all the way from the distant Jebel Saghro mountains across the High Atlas to graze their goats, sheep, and sometimes even camels here. After a picnic set against this majestic backdrop, we hike back to the road and take local taxis back to our accommodation. 🍽️ B, L, D | 🥾 ca. 14 km ⏱ : 5 – 6 h. ↗ 420 m ↘ 420 m

Feel free to stroll through the narrow alleys of the Medina for some last-minute souvenir shopping, haggling is strictly encouraged!
