What's special?
special Hiking
special Private jaccuzzi
special Impressive fireworks
This trip is for nature lovers, who want to see the beautiful scenery of Madeira island and enjoy the good, spring-like weather. Madeira is known for its huge diversity in nature trails, having some of the most beautiful day hikes in Europe. We will be five people in a house with private pool and jaccuzzi and have a big-ish rental car. The house also has WiFi, so working or studying is an option, too. The idea is to have the possibility of a different hike or other adventure, such as canyoning or scuba diving, every day, while it's always possible to stay in the ccomodation and enjoy the sea view. The capital Funchal also offers a broad culinary selection and night life, which can be explored as we wish! I'm a Dive Master and would love to plunge into the rich underwater world, too, so any scuba divers are more than welcome! Madeira has one of the biggest fireworks in the world, which we'll be able to see at the harbour. Other than that, this trip is ideal for people who'd like to use the free days off work for the outdoors, enjoying different cultures and places rather than for celebations. I wish for this to become a group trip of friends, ultimately, where everyone is respected equally. Your ideas and wishes are valued as much as mine, and the schedule can be adapted according to our wishes. This trip is supposed to be a safe space for people of all genders, nationalities, sexualities and looks. It is possible to join just for the first or second week, too.

About me! Hi! My name is Rahel, I'm 28 years old and an avid and experienced traveller. I go backpacking all the time, have driven rental cars in places such as remote Tunisia or the city center of Rome, long-distance hiked on Mallorca and the coast of Portugal. Originally from Germany, I lived in the Netherlands for three years before moving to Portugal 1,5 years ago. I love all sorts of outdoor sports, am a Dive Master and tried out paragliding, climbing, kayaking and canyoning. When travelling, I like to keep it low budget, or at least not "luxurious". I am, however, flexible and like to include everyone's wishes to make compromises and all have a great time travelling together!

About the accommodation: We have a spacious Airbnb house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a private jacuzzi, and a swimming pool. It has a view of the sea, 6km to the nearest beach. We have two rooms with a queen-sized bed plus one futon in the shared space. It is a nice, typical house for Madeira, with a focus on the outdoor space and location! Keep me posted in the Q&A section below in case you have questions about the trip!

Trip Itinerary
1

Madeira Airport International Cristiano Ronaldo

Day 1
It's pick- up day! I will pick up everyone joining on day one with our rental car. It's time to go to our beautiful Airbnb, settle into our cozy rooms and take in the first impressions of the island on the 45minute road trip. We will share our expectations fo the trip, get to know each other, organize our meals and go grocery shopping. Then it's time to relax from the stressful day with a tasty dinner on our terrace at mild 20°C and enjoy the hot tub!
2

Funchal

Day 1
We will pass the city on our first day, when everyone gets picked up at the airport. We'll do another day trip there, and it's always possible to go see the nightlife. The city is very rich in culture, having been a destination for sailors for centuries. It is known for its fine wines and architecture influenced by many different cultures over the years, such as the Venetian.
3

Pico do Arieiro

Day 1
The Pico de Arieiro is one of the highest points in the Archipelago, at 1818m. The hike to Pico Ruivo (1862m) is the most famous on the island, but certainly also on of the most challenging. It is very steep at times and we'll cover a distance of approx. 12km. We will, however, be blessed with beautiful views over the island and the peaks.
4

Arco da Calheta

Day 1-15
Since the schedule is flexible and everyone will have a say in it, we will have plenty of time to enjoy our AirBnB, chill in the jaccuzzi, have a bbq, use the WiFi and have a movie night, anything we like really :)
5

Funchal

Day 15
One of the biggest fireworks in the world expects us on New Year's Eve! We'll be headed to the city center, grab some food and join the party at the Harbour of Funchal! Fireworks are shot form several boats as well as several spots on the coast and in the city.
6

Fanal

Day 15
Among the many day hikes we're planning on doing, this one in the national park of Laurissilva leads us into into the island's jungle-like center. This 10,6 km long hike of medium difficulty includes an elevation gain of 540m and will take us 4-5 hours to complete. Fun!
7

Levada do Moinho

Day 15
This is a very special trail, following a route carved into the cliff. The main popint of interest is a waterfall dropping over the path, giving us the opportunity to actually walk behind it. Along the way there, we will have beautiful views over two valleys. Again, this is a hike of medium difficulty, with an elevation gain of 670m and a length of 9 km.
8

Mero Diving Center

Day 15
For the scuba divers among us, this will be a treat! Situated in the middle of the ocean, diving in Madeira promises big schools of fish, rays and even a couple of old, curious groupers, that this dive school visits regularly. For those of us who aren't certified yet, doing a very first "baptism" dive is possible for just 70 € (which really is comparably cheap). Depending on the group, we could do several dives and maybe even a night dive!
9

Prainha do Caniçal

Day 15
On this island of eternal spring, the temperature is supposed to be around 20-22°C during the entire trip. With the water temperature around 23 degrees, we can use an especially sunny day for a trip to the far East of the island, see the easternmost point at the Miradouro Ponta do Furado and have a beach day on this gorgeous peninsula.
10

Madeira Airport International Cristiano Ronaldo

Day 15
On the last day, we have to check out the AirBnB at 12pm latest. Whoever has a later flight and wants to explore some more of the capital that day, I can drop there on my way to the airport in order to return the rental car. Hopefully the "Goodbye" will turn into a "See you soon!"
