6 Countries Road Trip
Details about this trip
Hey Guys! Are you ready for the another adventure 😎? A 2-week Road Trip of Central & Eastern Europe awaits us! An exciting exploration spanning numerous cultures and destinations, featuring a thrilling mix of diverse activities! From breathtaking hikes to remote villages, magical castles, and pristine beaches, we’ll cross the borders of no fewer than 6 countries!

But first… it’s-a a me, Giulia! I'm the typical Italian girl, raised on Margherita Pizza 🍕 and weird hand gestures! I love meeting new people and getting to know new cultures. Whether you are looking for a new friend, a new mum, or a new mascotte, I can be the one for you 😬!

Where are we staying? 🏡 Being a Road Trip, we are going to change our “home” almost every night! The accommodations will mostly be hostels, hotels and apartments. Rooms will be shared, counting 2 female mates and 2 male mates. Take into consideration that I tried to book as many double rooms as possible to guarantee ourselves a bit of privacy, but there will still be be many (around an half) locations where will we have to share the same living space between men and women (as for this reason as well, for this specific trip, there will be a age range. More info about it, at the end of the itinerary description). That’s why the perfect Mate for this Trip wouldn’t mind share the space, make use of shared bathrooms with others, and loves being surrounded by people 😉 I have already booked all the accommodations, in such a way as to guarantee us the spots we need in August (usually one of the busiest months, especially in the most popular location). Respectively: —> 1°/2° NIGHTS: Apartment, 1x shared room, 2 single beds (boys) + 1 double bed (girls), 1 private bathroom (Dosoledo-Italy) —> 3°/4° NIGHTS: Hotel, 2x Rooms, each with 2 Single Beds & private bathroom (Vienna-Austria) —> 5° NIGHT: Guest House, 1x Room, Double bed & private bathroom + 1x Room, 1 single bed & 1 double bed & private bathroom (Auschwitz-Poland) —> 6° NIGHT: Hostel, 2x Rooms, each with 2 Single Beds & shared bathroom (Warsaw, Poland) —> 7° NIGHT: Apartment, 1x shared room, 4 single beds, 1 private bathroom (Vilnius-Lithuania) —> 8°/9° NIGHTS: Apartment, 2 connected rooms, 1 bunk bed (boys) + 1 double bed (girls), 1 private bathroom (Klaipeda-Lithuania) —> 10° NIGHT: Guest House, 1x shared room, 2 bunk beds, 1 private bathroom (Olsztyn-Poland) —> 11° NIGHT: Hotel, 2x Rooms, each with 2 Single Beds & private bathroom (Wrocław-Poland) —> 12°/13° NIGHTS: Hotel, 1x shared room, 4 single beds, 1 private bathroom (Prague - Czech Republic) —> 14° NIGHT: Camping, 1x sleeping barrel with 2 Single Beds + 1x Sleeping Hut with 2 Single Beds, shared bathrooms (Rottenbuch - Germany) —> 15° NIGHT: Guest House, 1x shared room, 4 single beds, 1 private bathroom (Mayrhofen-Austria) —> 16° NIGHT: Apartment - 2 connected rooms, 2 single beds (boys), 1 double bed (girls), 1 private bathroom (Milan-Italy) What about transportation? 🚕 As for transportation, we are going to rent 1 big car (probably an SUV) 🚙. And with 14 years of experience, I’ll be the Group’s chauffeur! The trip costs include 💰: -All the accommodations -Car rental -Auschwitz entrance ticket (Poland) -Wieliczka Salt Mine entrance ticket (Poland) -Szczeliniec Wielki e Błędne Skały entrance tickets (Poland) -Kuchlbauer Tower and Brewery entrance tickets (Germany) -Neuschwanstein Castle admission ticket (Germany) -Parking Entrance ticket to Tre Cime di Lavaredo hike (Italy) -Parking Entrance ticket to Braies Lake hike (Italy) -Travel Insurance (unluckily, for now, provided only for travellers from Germany and Austria) What is not included 💸: -Flights/Trains to & from Milan -Meals (most of the breakfast & lunches will be on the go) -Fuel/Tool booths -Parkings lots not mentioned in “The trip costs include” -Other activities not mentioned in “The trip costs include” (ex: attractions/monuments) -Public Transportation in the big cities -Travel Insurance (except travellers from Germany and Austria) ❕IMPORTANT GUIDELINES: —>It will be important for this specific trip to be lightly equipped, as we will be sharing one car with the 4 of us 🤓! I suggest a big hiking backpack for all the load and a smaller one 🎒 for daily explorations. As a matter of fact, while in the big cities/hostels, where available, we will use washing machines for our laundry. —> PLEASE NOTE: This trip will be all about traveling by car 🚙 (do remember it is indeed a road trip)… so it will be important to take into account the MANY hours spent on four wheels, which at times could reach 7 per day (with an average of 4)! So, if you don't like traveling by car or you rarely spend time in it, perhaps this trip may not the best choice... I can assure you, however, that there will be so many stops and things to do and such absurd views that you will be thankful you chose the car as your transport for your trip around the EU🤩! —> Spending many hours in the car, it will be necessary to start our days early (sometimes even waking at dawn ⏰)! Full (and not always relaxing) schedules must therefore be taken into account (sometimes we will have to have breakfast/lunch while driving as well!). On the contrary, this trip does do not involve nightlife. With a few exceptions (such as the last night in Milan), we will frequently have to go to bed rather early to arrive charged up for the next day's morning wake-up call! I mean, you’ll be able to stay up all night if you want, as you can for certain sleep in the car. But, as the driver, unfortunately I won’t join you guys, in case. —> Always bring with you some cash 💶, you never know! —> Dress in layers 🧥: despite the month, there are some destinations on our trip that might turn out to be a bit tricky, especially in the northern Countries. So you will need to bring at least 1/2 heavy sweater and fleece, rain jacket, and slacks, even better if you have a windbreaker jacket (No worries, before the actual trip I’ll send you guys a list with all you will need to bring with you!). —> For the first day, we will all meet in the late morning at the Milan Central station 🚄 for car pickup. For those arriving in the morning, you are absolutely free to move to the city center and begin your solo explorations, before the meeting hour (PLEASE NOTE: I highly suggest you to arrive the day before, or really early in the morning!). —> As mentioned above, during this trip we’ll be using various self-service laundromats along the way (or washing machines available at certain accommodations). I’ve scheduled specific laundry sessions on designated days so as not to slow down the pace too much (roughly one load every 5–6 days). HOWEVER, since this is a road trip, it’s important to account for the unexpected. So be sure to bring enough underwear 🧦🩲 for at least 7–8 days, and the same goes for T-shirts (you can, instead, pack fewer pants, jackets, and other items).
PLEASE NOTE: bring with you one pair of hiking/trail shoes. —> As for overnight accommodations, I’ve tried to ensure that the two men in the group will always have single beds, while we girls will sometimes be assigned with double beds. Keep in mind, however, that, as already mentioned, unexpected changes in bed assignments may occur. Flexibility in this regard will be necessary from everyone! If you don’t think you’ll be able to handle sharing the same spaces, this might not be the trip for you (which is totally understandable). The same applies to bathroom usage 🚽. I’ve tried to book as many rooms with private toilettes as possible, but sometimes they’ll be shared by all four of us (or even with other guests, in the case of hostels). —> WARNING: It’s important to clarify one point regarding the itinerary before any misunderstandings arise. Precisely because of the nature of the trip—which involves traveling by car—this journey has been designed to explore Europe’s hidden gems and destinations that are difficult to reach without a car. Therefore, many of the most famous cities will NOT be included in this trip (with a few exceptions, such as Vienna, Praga or Vilnius 🌆). While capitals are indeed beautiful, in fact, they are also very easy to reach on weekends with budget flights from all over Europe. Whereas destinations that may be less well-known to the general public will be prioritised in our itinerary precisely to allow us to visit places we would otherwise be unable to reach.
—> PLEASE NOTE: during the trip there will be few days (mornings or afternoons) at specific locations designated as FREE, for two many reasons: 1) based on my past travel experiences, when spending many days together with the same people, it’s important to have some time to yourself. 2) As a freelancer, I’ll have to take on a few projects here and there (obviously, this won’t take away any time or space from the scheduled activities). However, during the hours previously mentioned, I may not be 100% available. For these 2 very reason you’ll be completely free to use that time however you like: to rest, unwind, or even just explore on your own. —> Regarding the travel arrangements for this road trip, the preferred age range has been set between 25 and 35 years old. If you are 2/3 years older or younger than the established limit, we can discuss it together to see if it’s still feasible. This decision is not intended to discriminate against anyone, but is due to the particularly small number of participants for a LOT of days to spend together. These two conditions combined, in fact, require a similarity in interests and habits that would otherwise be difficult to share between generations that are too far apart from one another. For detailed trip stops, take a look at bottom of the page in the "Trip Itinerary" section! For any other questions or curiosity don’t mind sending me a message here on JoinMyTrip 🤗 Can’t wait to meet you soon, Giulia *The accommodations and all the activities planned may be subject to variation based on both the weather and the number of TripMates. Every change to the original plan will be notified in advance.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Day 1-3
Estimated driving hours: 1st day—> 4h, 30’ 2nd day—> 3h 1st DAY Our first day on this long journey! We will meet directly at Milan Central station 🚄 on the late morning of the 2nd of August (the time will be announced in detail in advance. But for now you can consider a time slot in-between 11.30 AM-2 PM)! As mentioned in the description, it will absolutely be possible to arrive early for solo explorations (the day before should be even better, to avoid arrival delays). First, we’ll make a quick stop to pick up a packed lunch for the next day and some snacks. Then we will head to Trentino Alto Adige. In short, on the first day, we won’t be making any specific stops, but we’ll need to get to know each other, prepare for the long journey, and reach our destination for the following day. 2nd DAY We’ll wake up early and set off for this very destination! The loop hike around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo is a classic trek in the Dolomites (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The route, which is about 10 km long with an elevation gain of approximately 500 m, is of low to moderate difficulty, takes about 4 to 5 hours to complete, and requires moderate fitness (some prior hiking experience is recommended). In the afternoon, instead, we will move to Braies Lake, a jewel of legendary beauty and emerald-green waters, nestled amid the majestic landscapes of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park in the Dolomites.

Vienna

Day 3-5
Estimated driving hours: 1st day—> 6h, 40’ 2nd day—> none (FREE DAY) 1st DAY
On the morning of the third day our first very long drive lies ahead, but nothing will stop us from pulling over here and there to snap a few photos! However the first real stop, halfway through the journey, will be Graz! There, we will be able to decide wether: Climb the 260 stairs to get to the Schlossberg Clock Tower Ride the longest indoor slide in the world (small extra fee, around 6/7€) Explore an artificial island made of steel Check out the art murals, while strolling around the town Take a peek at Kunsthaus or better known to locals as the friendly alien Visit the Arnold Schwarzenegger museum, the home where he grew up in (small extra fee, around 13/14€) In the late afternoon we will reach the city of Vienna, one of the few capitals we will visit during our long journey.
2nd DAY - FREE DAY
This will be our first “free day” of the trip. For those who will join me (in the morning or in the afternoon), we will stroll around exploring the main points of interest of the capital. PLEASE REMEMBER: as mentioned in the summary description above, during the trip, there will be a few free days where planned activities won’t be provided as per schedule (although you will be totally free to join me when I’m done with my work).

Day 5-6
Estimated driving hours: 4h, 30’ As always up early, we will leave for Poland! After a four and a half hour of driving we will have our first laundry pit stop (laundry pit stops are always an option, never mandatory), while grabbing some lunch. Right after we’ll step briefly to check in our apartment, we’ll leave for Auschwitz. Since the visit to the former concentration camp may be particularly distressing, this activity will be booked in advance only for those who feel up to it. Everyone else will have the afternoon free to rest or explore the surrounding area on their own.

Day 8-10
Estimated driving hours: 1st day—> 6h, 25’ 2nd day—> 20’ (FREE DAY) 1st DAY Leaving Vilnius behind, a rather long journey lies ahead, with no fewer than four very different destinations waiting for us! First, we’ll visit Trakai Castle, a 14th-century Gothic red-brick fortress situated on a small island in Lake Galvė. Our second stop will be the Treetop Walking Path: a picturesque suspended walking trail in the heart of Anykščiai Regional Park. Stretching 300 meters long, it rises up to 21 meters high among the treetops, culminating in a 34-meter-high observation tower with a view of the Šventoji River (a small additional fee of €5 for those who wish to access it, optional). The third stop of the day will be the Hill of Crosses, a pilgrimage site unique in the world, covered with over 100,000 crosses, crucifixes, and rosaries. Finally, we will arrive in Klaipėda, a coastal town on the shores of the Baltic Sea. One extra laundry will be able to be done as the apartment we will stay in has a washing machine at our disposal. 2nd DAY - FREE DAY For those willing to join me (in the morning or in the afternoon), we will explore the Curonian Spit. After taking the pedestrian ferry from the old port of Kaipleda (small additional fee, around €3), once we reach the beach, we’ll rent bikes (for an extra fee of 20/30€) and spend our time exploring the 40-kilometer bike path, which offers access to truly unique panoramic views. Some of the stops along the way: Hill of Witches Dead Dunes Nida Olsztyn Estimated driving hours: 7h 30 This is sure to be one the most demanding day in terms of the number of hours spent in the car among all the weeks we will spend on the road. To cope with the long drive, we’ll try to alleviate the fatigue, by more frequent and shorter stops like the ones at Pyramid In Rapa and the one at the bridges in Stańczyki (3€), which are among the most spectacular architectural wonders of Masuria. The late afternoon will be dedicated to a walk around Olsztyn.
