We will visit a gem of the Mediterranean, the "Island of Beauty", with its unique mixture of gorgeous coastlines, majestic mountains and well-preserved traditions. On a loop to and from Ile Rousse, we will spend a cycling week taking in the cultural and natural landscape of the wildest Corsican region: the North-West. Important: This is meant to be a pleasant on-the-road trip without major challenges, but a basic level of fitness is recommended.

L'Île-Rousse

Day 1-3
We meet early in the morning of the first day, so you are advised to either sleep in town or arrive with an overnight ferry from Italy or France. We head to a 4x4 day-tour in the wilderness of the Agriate, stopping at the stunning beach of Saleccia. Once back, there is time to get to know the village and its founder, the Corsican national hero Pasquale Paoli. Overnight in Ile Rousse.

Corte

Day 3-4
Today we rent the bikes and we head for the first leg of the trip, which will be dedicated to Corsican history, stopping at the site of the battle of Ponte Nuovo and making a visit of the old capital, Corte, and of its national museum. Calacuccia

Day 4-5
In the morning, we visit the impressive gorges of Restonica, with many occasions to take a refreshing bath in the clean mountain river. In the afternoon, we head to Calacuccia, where celebrations in honour of Santa du Niolu are taking place. There will be a chance to hear the traditional polyphonic songs. Cargèse

Day 5-6
We head towards the coast while cycling one of the most scenic routes of the island: the Col de Vergio. Once in Cargese, we relax in the cristal-clear waters of one of the many coves. Technical data Calacuccia - Cargese: Length 74 km Cumulative uphill 1100 m Highest elevation 1470 m

Porto

Day 6-7
Around lunch, we leave towards Piana and Capo Rosso. On the way back, we can appreciate the calanche, inscribed on the Unesco world heritage. Later we descend to Porto. Techincal data Cargese - Capo Rosso - Porto: Length 42 km Cumulative uphill 750 m Highest elevation 480 m

Gulf of Girolata

Day 7-8
From Porto, we first make a small detour to Ota, and then reach Girolata, a village only accessible by foot or bycicle, which lies along a splendid bay. Calvi

Day 8
We leave Girolata early in the morning as this is the longest cycling day. We move northwest on the wonderful coastal road to Galeria and Calvi, taking some time to enjoy the citadel. Finally, we head back to Ile Rousse via Corbara, one of the nice bourghs of the Balagna region. We return the bikes in the evening. September 12th, free day to enjoy the rest of Balagna or start the trip back home.
