1. Casablanca
Casablanca, or Dar el-Bayba in Arabic, is Morocco’s biggest city, and you might wonder why we include it in this list of hidden gems. The city is often overlooked, but because of its beautiful architecture and interesting (colonial) history, you shouldn’t miss it and spend a few days here the next time you want to visit Morocco.
2. Ouzoud Waterfalls
About three hours from Marrakech, you’ll find this beautiful hidden gem in Morocco. You can either travel there yourself or go with a local guide. We recommend booking a local guide or traveling with a local TripLeader to take you there. The falls are the biggest in Morocco and are enclosed by a mountain range. At the foot of the mountain, you can take a boat directly to the falls or enjoy the area’s tranquility. The hike down to the fall takes you down via stairs or a winding path where you can meet sheep and monkeys.
3. Chefchaouen
This beautiful and Instagram-able city lies in the Rif Mountains in North-West Morocco. It is also called the Blue Pearl of Morocco because of its beautiful and uniquely colored buildings. Did you know that Louis Vuitton even shot campaigns here? However, this beautiful city is still largely unknown and should definitely be on your bucket list.
4. Essaouira
Essaouira is a famous Digital Nomad Hub in Morocco. The city is quieter than the popular city of Marrakech and is right on the Atlantic Coast. It’s a popular beach town, and locals love coming here for their summer holiday. You can really unwind and take a break here by relaxing on the beach or going to one of the many spas in town.
5. El Jadida
This stylish and beautiful town still features a Portugese Medina and is one of the best hidden gems in Morocco. Today the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring some unique buildings, especially from colonial times, like the Cisterna Portugaise.
6. Oualidia
Around 80 km south of El Jadida, you’ll find Oualidia. This tranquil place was home to the Sultan in colonial times, but today it is famous for its Japanese Oysters. The town is often referred to as a resort because of its beautiful beaches and excellent surfing and windsurfing location.
