Hello all, my name is Alex and I travel this year for the 4th time to Sri Lanka. Now I stumbled across this site by chance and would not want to deprive anyone to join us (Sabrina 33 and me 33) on this guaranteed unforgettable trip. Meanwhile I am a real insider and know the island very well. On several round trips I have already been able to get to know the country and its people and can only recommend to visit this jewel in the Indian Ocean. The trip starts in Bentota with a few days of "swimming and relaxing". After that we will make a round trip of about 12 days in an air-conditioned minibus/car: depending on the number of fellow travelers. Among others we will drive to the following highlights: - Turtle sanctuary/breeding station - City of Galle - Whale watching in Mirissa - Yala National Park - Highlands (Nuwara Eliya) - Visit to a tea factory - Ancient royal palaces in Sirigiya - Golden Temple in Dambulla - Ancient temple camps in Anurahadupara - Traditional dance performance Kandy Dancer - Tooth temple in Kandy - Possibly Botanical Garden - Elephant orphanage in Pinawala As you can see there is something for everyone and I would be surprised if after the trip not everyone is really enthusiastic about the country. Afterwards there will be some time at the beach to relax and to let the trip pass in review. The entrance tickets amount to about 100-120€ in total.

In guesthouse with breakfast or middle class hotel. With pleasure also sometimes in a naturally held lodge.

Trip Itinerary

Bentota

Day 1-5
Arrive / Relax / Chill / Get to know the country and its people Here it is about acclimatizing and getting in touch with the locals. The Golden Mile in Bentota is one of the most popular bathing areas and one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. There is a lot to see in the surrounding area. A must is a mangrove trip by boat. Here you can see crocodiles and other exotic animals. Entertainment is also provided here. In addition to jet skiing, surfing or deep sea fishing, you can also simply relax at Ayurveda. Or enjoy the day on the beach.
2

Mirissa

Day 5-7
On the way to Mirissa we stop at the Turtle Reservation Center and in Galle. In the turtle farm the eggs are protected from predators and after a certain stage of maturity the turtles are released. Here you can take great photos. In Galle, an old fort, we will walk on the ramparts and enjoy the view. Afterwards we will go to Mirissa where a whale watching tour is scheduled for the next morning. Afterwards we will head towards Yala National Park.
3

Yala

Day 7-9
Here we enjoy a complete day and take our time to discover elephants, leopards, water buffalos and much more in the Yala National Park. The tour is conducted on an off-road jeep.
4

Nuwara Eliya

Day 9-10
After the exciting day in the national park we go to the much cooler highlands. Here you can clearly see the influence of the English who were there during the colonial period. A visit to a tea factory is a must here: Who does not know the original Ceylon tea? But who has ever seen how it is actually picked and produced? We will know all this at the end of this day.
5

Kandy

Day 10-12
Around Kandy there is a lot to discover. Here we visit the traditional dance group of the Kandy Dancer and the tooth temple (Sri Dalada Maligawa). Here the original canine tooth of Buddha is said to be stored under several golden pagodas.
6

Dambulla

Day 12-15
In Dambulla is the Golden Temple, or Rock Temple. A huge Buddha statue invites you to visit. Also, a large Buddha carved out of stone lies in one of the caves. In the vicinity of Dambulla is also the rock Sigiriya, which housed the royal palaces over a thousand years ago. Meanwhile, you can climb several hundred steps to the top of the rock and enjoy the wonderful view of the former royal gardens. Also worth seeing are the ancient cities around Anuradhadupara. This should also still be feasible in terms of time.
7

Pinnawala

Day 15-16
At the end of the tour we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala. Here the elephants are taken to the nearby river twice a day for washing. This is a very popular spectacle with tourists. Afterwards we will go back to Bentota where there will be time again to digest the impressions :)
8

Bentota

Day 16-21
Here there will be time again to just put your feet up. Gladly a trip through the mangroves, water skiing, diving course, parasailing, JetSki etc. can be made as needed. Here I can gladly help with the organization. Subject to change without notice.
