Discover an unknown yet extremely rewarding destination, Algeria. Visit the heart of Sahara, listen to the silence of the desert away from tourist crowds. Experience the culture of desert tribes and the magnificent architecture and palm groves of the oasis, be astonished at the night sky in the desert, and enjoy northern African cuisine. We will see traditional bazaars, oases, traditional Saharan architecture, and medieval mosques.

About me! I'm an always smiling and relaxed person. Foody, a bit geeky, responsible, art lover. I love learning and exploring new places. My goal is to discover, to understand and to feel the essence of the places I visit, with full respect to the local culture and the environment. I often trek in the wild and I have a passion for plants! I have spent 14 years living abroad, in Europe and Asia and I am fluent in English, Greek and Indonesian. I can converse in French and Spanish and I also speak some Arabic, Javanese (not Japanese!) and Hindi. I have a varied background, as I worked as a dentist, a hotel receptionist, a language teacher, a translator and a trip leader and I have lived in four different countries.

Details about the accommodation: We will stay in mid-range hotels in Algiers and Constantine on the north coast and the Sahara towns of Ghoufi, Taghit and Bou Saada. All hotels have good reviews, in walking distance from all necessary amenities. Breakfast will be included in order to save time. Rooms will be double or triple. Algiers Province

Day 1-2

We will stay two days in Algiers, to explore the capital and the modern heart of Algeria. A city that combines modern amenities with century old monuments. We will visit the Kasbah, which is the old town, and some extraordinary mosques and old colonial buildings.

Constantine

Day 2-4

Constantine is the second biggest city of Algeria. Its nickname is the city of bridges and you will soon understand why. Built around steep cliffs and canyons, the locals have constructed several bridges through the centuries, literally hanging above the canyons and joining the various parts of the city. Breathtaking photos guaranteed!

Ghoufi

Day 4-6

Ghoufi is one of the most impressive natural settings in the whole of Sahara. Famous for its steep canyon cliff, Ghoufi's views will take your breath away. The town is basically an oasis located inside the canyon. Two nights here will allow us to take in the beauty of this stunning place.

Ghardaia

Day 6-9

We will visit the magnificent town of Ghardaia, in the heart of the Sahara, to explore the stunning architecture, the unique Ibadi culture, the shouks and picturesque alleys, all set in the middle of Sahara's sand dunes. We will reach the place by a short flight, to avoid a very long drive and spend two nights in Ghardaia.

Bou Saada

Day 9-10

Bou Saada, another Saharan jewel, will be our last Saharan stop. Conveniently located between Ghardaia and Algiers, Bou Saada is known for its ksar, that is, its fortified old town, with attached houses and narrow alleyways.

Algiers Province

Day 10-12

Finally we drive back to Algiers, where our journey ends. The last day will be free for shopping in the shouks, and walking around the Old Town. You may opt to have a relaxed day instead, enjoying the amazing Algerian cuisine. Don't forget to try couscous, Algeria's national dish before you leave.
