Zócalo
Day 1-2
Today weāll have a walking tour around the city center! In the morning, breakfast is included and the wellhead to the zócalo, where weāll see the Metropolitan Cathedral which is situated on top of a former Aztec sacred site, weāll go into the Templo mayor museum (tickets included) which used to be the main temple of the Mexica people in their capital city, TenochtitlĆ”n (nowadays, Mexico City). Later weāll stop by the National Museum of Art, which is located in a beautiful neoclassical building and holds a large collection of Mexican art from the mid-sixteenth century to the mid-20th century, and even a temporary exhibition with Monet paintings. Weāll make a stop for lunch (we can recommend you a couple of options with reasonable prices). Later weāll continue our walk to the Palace of Fine Arts, one of the most popular and beautiful spots in the city, then weāll pass through Alameda Central, the oldest public park in the Americas and weāll make our way to the Monument to the Revolution. After that, we can recommend a couple of places for dinner or maybe some drinks, we can get back to the hotel or you can join us on the optional visit to the Lagunilla market. This visit wonāt have an additional cost, but it is optional due to the fact that it might not be for everyone (just a matter of personal taste), but if you decide to come, youāll get to experience a typical Mexican Market (or the way we call them, āTianguisā) where you can find a lot of traditional, and even international, foods and drinks, maybe shop some antiques or just enjoy the folkloric atmosphere.
In the morning weāll head to the TeotihuacĆ”n pyramids, a UNESCO World Heritage Site about two hours away from the city. Weāll be picked up at the hotel by our private transportation, then weāll explore the āBirthplace of the godsā (the meaning of the Nahuatl word āTeotihuacĆ”nā) with a certified guide. Afterwards weāll stop at an artisan market and then have some time to buy some lunch and something to drink and weāll make our way back to Mexico City. Pick up and drop off at the hotel.
5
Xochimilco
Day 4-6
Early in the morning, weāll head to the famous canals of Xochimilco, where weāll hop on a typical colorful boat, known as ātrajineraā, here we can buy some drinks, pay for a private mariachi serenade, or just enjoy the beautiful and festive atmosphere. After that, weāll head to the center of CoyoacĆ”n, where we can walk around and admire the colorful building and get to know the CoyoacĆ”n market, and maybe buy some lunch. Later weāre going to visit the museum dedicated to one of the most recognized Mexican artists in the entire world, the Frida Khalo Museum, also known as āthe blue houseā. Our last stop will be at Colonia Roma (for the cinephiles out there, this is the place where the Oscar-winning movie āRomaā by Alfonso Cuarón is set) one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the city, with a lot of post-colonial buildings and also a lot of modern businesses, which makes for a nice contrast. After some time spent here, weāll head back to the hotel.
