Coworking trip
If you’ve been lost in daydreams of escaping the cold and finding yourself on warm, sandy beaches with a mojito in hand, after a day of taco-fueled jungle exploring… 🌴🌊 Then you’ll know exactly how I’ve been feeling! Tulum, Mexico is known as one of the best beach towns in the Caribbean, and I think it will be ideal for a two-week-long co-working trip for us digital nomads. DATES: Friday, March 26 – Saturday, April 10 TRIP COST INCLUDES: • Lodging (already booked!) • Bike rentals for duration of stay • A final good-bye feast at the end of our trip! Since this is a co-working trip, it will be laid back and of course there’s no pressure to participate in any certain excursions, but I’m anticipating: • Soaking in the sun at beaches as often as possible. • Snorkeling in pristine Cenotes (basically awesome coves/caves connected to the ocean) • A day-trip to Chichén Itzá (one of the seven wonders of the modern world!) and the ruins at Coba. • A beach-side yoga class or two. • Biking around exploring the town and lengthy beach areas (Tulum is a very bike-friendly area, and can bypass the at-times congested vehicle traffic). • Trying the best local food (I have some connections in the area giving me recommendations!) I’ll probably be working normal business hours on weekdays, though I might take Fridays off 😊 ------ 🏠 LODGING: We’ll stay at an awesome Airbnb apartment that is very highly rated for being in a great area of town, and with very fast and reliable internet. It has 3 bedrooms. Depending how many book, rooms could be shared; if you want/need to guarantee a room of your own, that would be possible for a slightly higher cost. A couple photos of the place we’ll be staying in are below. Did I mention, there’s a jacuzzi and a pool?! 🚲 TRANSPORT: Since biking is the best way to get around, and it’s a long walk between the beach and town, I got you covered! I’ll rent bikes for everyone for the duration of our stay. If we go to Chichén Itzá for a day trip we'll split the cost of a rental vehicle for that. Cancun is the best airport to fly in and out of. Since we’ll all be arriving at different times, you’ll have to arrange your own transport between the Cancun airport and Tulum. The ADO bus is your best bet for public transport. 🌮 FOOD: We’ll buy some groceries (and split the cost) for most breakfasts and lunches. I anticipate going out to eat most nights, as I love local food and it seems reasonably priced in-town (as opposed to the beach restaurants). I also plan to frequent the taco shops. Because tacos. And to finish things off, I’ll treat us all the last night of the trip to a group dinner, because it seems a fitting way for friends to say good-bye, and I want you all to feel appreciated! 👩‍⚕️ COVID: Mexico is one of the most open countries to visitors right now. Currently, there are no testing or quarantining requirements. However, you will have to be aware of your home country’s requirements for return travel; for those of us in the US, we will need to obtain a negative Covid test within 72 hours prior to the flight home (there are several approved testing sites in Tulum). For a bit of background on me: • I’m from Minnesota, USA. • When I graduated college with a finance degree, I decided to trash that idea and get married and backpack around Europe for 5 months and Nepal for 2 months instead. • When I ran out of money, I decided to have a career in finance after all. • After going crazy in a cubicle for several years, I decided to trash that again. • Somewhere in there, I spent a couple months WWOOFing (work exchange at a vineyard and succulent farm) on the west coast of the US and Hawaii, and made another trip to Europe. • Now I run several businesses of my own (I do digital marketing, recently published a book on freelancing, and run a vacation rental property), and absolutely love my life. • I like to think I know a little Spanish, but for practical purposes, we’ll just say I only speak English. I’ve always loved the quote by Thoreau: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately… and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” The only problem is, I like the beach better than the woods, so that’s where we’re going! Day trip to Chichén Itzá! As one of the seven wonders of the modern world, this Mayan gem is one you'll not want to miss. Will get a tour guide when there to make the most of it!
