Guided trip
Hi, I'm Rita and I'm a travel lover. I don't like do tourism but meeting others lives. I lived for four months in São Tomé and Príncipe and two months in Guinea-Bissau on volunteer missions and recently returned from a three-month backpacking trip through Southeast Asia. Over 24 years I've met several people from the four corners of the world and all so different that each one of them influenced me and led to the person I am today. With a contagious smile that manages to see the best in every adversity. With an energy that spreads everywhere I go. A person who manages to be the most extroverted but at the same time manages to be the big sister when needed. A person who adapts to reality and the context in which he is inserted. A person where taking a bath with someone else was already part of everyday life and how good it was. A person who can find solutions easily when problems arise. And if it doesn't work, we try a second, third, as many times as necessary. A person who fights for what he wants and still learns something from the path he took to reach the final goal. About the trip: On this trip to São Tomé and Príncipe, get ready to discover an archipelago made up of two islands and a dozen islets, which belongs to the World Biosphere Reserve, an example of environmental sustainability and development of local populations. Located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, on the imaginary line of the equator, São Tomé and Príncipe is a small paradise that reveals an imposing and majestic setting resulting from the exuberant tropical vegetation that constitutes its main landscape reference, lying amidst the immensity of the green countless valleys, rivers and streams with scenery of rare beauty. From passing through the paradisiacal beaches of Jalé and Inhame to visiting the Morro Peixe community dedicated to the conservation and protection of sea turtles; from the observation of Pico Cão Grande, elevated to more than 600 meters above sea level, to the discovery of the Cascata da Praia Pesqueira and the immaculate Ilhéu das Rolas, this trip to São Tomé and Príncipe is made for lovers of nature, sea and photography. São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 1-2
Today the day is reserved for your arrival on the island of São Tomé. This is a land of gods, fertile, with a generous green, and a humid breath, bays of light amber sand and a translucent blue Atlantic that cut out the map of this island of cocoa, coffee and generous people in the way of being warm and African hosts. Depending on your arrival time, we'll meet at the reception to talk a little about what the next few days will be like and then we'll head to dinner

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 2-3
Reinvigorated, after a night of well-deserved rest, it's time to start exploring São Tomé and today's proposal goes to the north of the island. We travel along one of the most beautiful roads in the world, connecting to the town of Santa Catarina, a small fishing village that remains in our hearts for its charming people. Flanked on one side by lush vegetation, bathed occasionally by small waterfalls, and on the other by a series of palm trees that arch over the sea. At the end of the day, we dive into the Blue Lagoon, located in the Obô Natural Park, a paradise for lovers of underwater fishing. Here, its waters, a tempting transparent blue, have the perfect temperature for bathing.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 3-4
We reserved the morning for a trip to Praia dos Tamarindos and Morro Peixe, an important community in the conservation and protection of sea turtles, which also contributes to the involvement of the local population in the issue of ecosystem sustainability. After lunch, we head towards one of the most beautiful gardens on the island, Roça Agostinho Neto. Formerly called Rio D’Ouro, it is the largest in the country and and in which I volunteered. Our guide will help us understand its importance in the historical context of São Tomé and Príncipe and and we will be able to know a little about the association Kêlê.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 4-5
After settling your stomach with a delicious breakfast made from local products, today we set out to discover new places in the central part of the island of São Tomé. It was here that coffee plantations began, a product of excellence in the archipelago. The tour we propose will take you through gardens, cocoa and coffee plantations and the equatorial forest. Our tour begins with a visit to Roça Monte Café and its Museum. Founded in 1858 by Manuel da Costa Pedreira, this farm covers an area of approximately 8600 hectares, and constitutes a true collection of the history of coffee cultivation in the country, an activity that is still carried out in these parts today. Lunch, in turn, will be at Roça Saudade, where the writer Almada Negreiros was born.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 5-6
The morning takes us, this time, to the south of the island. The day will be a little tiring, as we will drive for many hours. If you like to take pictures, prepare your camera because along the way you will have superb landscapes to record. We stop again and again at will, recording in photographs and in memory the stunning landscapes of the island that welcomes us. The smiles, those, unfold in our stops, a natural gift with which the people of this island are born. Among other mandatory stops, we will stop to see Pico Cão Grande, of volcanic origin and which rises to more than 600 meters above sea level. Lunch will be a tasting you will never forget, prepared by the renowned Chef João Carlos Silva. It will be served at Roça São João, in an environment that breathes history and with all the welcome and hospitality that characterize this people. After lunch we continue to the south.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 6-7
Paradise exists: it has the shade of slender palm trees, shiny gray dolphins, snails, lagoons in the middle of the sea, diving among corals and colorful fish, saltwater geysers and sand rain. We arrived at Ilhéu das Rolas, for many people paradise on Earth. The Equator runs through here, dividing the northern hemisphere from the southern, like a great road around the imaginary earth. We are, around here, inhabitants of the center of the world, even if passing through. We'll spend the morning relaxing a bit at Praia Café, enjoying this incredible scenery and in the afternoon we'll head to Praia Piscina where we'll watch the sunset.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 7-8
Let's take advantage of the day to replenish our energies as the tropical and humid climate of São Tomé is already being felt. After breakfast, we'll head to the famous Jalé beach. Here the sky is rarely quite blue. But the temperature, this one, is always pleasant, and the water looks like a broth inviting you to bathe. Jumping the waves or diving into them, with the sky dyed in reds, oranges, violets. And the calm, the absence of human sounds. After lunch we enjoy another equally famous beach, Praia Inhame and after we continue to the city of São Tomé where we will pass by Boca do Inferno and Roça Agua Izé.

Day 8-9
In são tomé, the day starts early and we love heading to the islet of santana where we can practice snorkeling and surfing, at a local NGO SOMA dedicated to female empowerment through surfing for girls.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 9-10
Our trip to São Tomé is almost over and, therefore, the day is reserved for lunch at the home of a local family. As lunch will be extended into the afternoon, this day is exclusive for this unique experience.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Day 10-11
Our trip ends today so the day is free for you to explore the city as you see fit. From the colonialist buildings to the hubbub of the municipal markets, where stalls selling exotic fruit and delicious snacks from São Tomé cuisine abound. It's time to buy the last souvenirs and catch the flight back home.
