Swiss Chocolate Trip: Weekend Getaway to Lindt Home of Chocolate and Bike Tour in Zurich

Hosted by

Giulia

Guided trip
Hi Guys! During this 3 days weekend we are going to explore the fancy city of Zurich! But first… it’s-a a me, Giulia! I'm the typical Italian girl, raised on Margherita Pizza 🍕 and weird hand gestures! I love meeting new people and getting to know new cultures. Whether you are looking for a new friend, a new mum, or a new mascotte, I can be the one for you 😬! We will meet around lunchtime on Saturday and spend our first afternoon together exploring the city center, fully immersing ourselves in the Swiss atmosphere! Then, on the morning of the second day, we will immediately head to the main destination of our gateway weekend: the Lindt Home of Chocolate! In the afternoon, instead, we will take the opportunity to discover other parts of the city by bike (also to work off all the chocolate from a few hours earlier!) on a guided tour through Zurich's network of bike paths! During the last morning together (for those who will have their train/plane in the afternoon, like me), it will be possible to visit Goldküste, the "Gold Coast." This region of privileged sunshine is known for its low tax rate and high real estate prices; it is therefore the part of the shore where we will be able to admire the most beautiful houses and villas of the wealthy social classes! Where are we staying? 🏡 Being only a 2-night retreat, we are going to share all the same room (everyone will have their own bed), at a really nice hotel in Zurich (20 minutes by tram to the main Central Station), featuring a shared lounge, terrace, bar, and free WiFi throughout the property. What about transportation?🚙 We will travel exclusively on foot and by public transportation. Despite being a car lover, in fact, it would be counterproductive and wasteful to move around on four wheels at this specific destination. Besides, the punctuality of Swiss trains is legendary 🕐! Every place we'll visit, moreover, will be well connected via the public transportation system for journeys of 10 to 40 minutes maximum. As for all the different tickets, I will purchase in advance for the 5 of us the Zürich Card, which will allow us to take the streetcar, bus, train, and cableway as many times as we want according to our needs without time limits and interchanges. The trip costs include 💰: - 2 Nights: Hotel accommodation (Shared rooms) - Zürich Card for Public Transportation - Lindt Home of Chocolate Entrance - Bike Tour with an English professional Guide - Free Wi-fi in the hotel - Travel Insurance (unluckily, for now, provided only for travelers from Germany and Austria) What is not included 💸: - Flights/Train tickets - Food - Other activities not mentioned in “The trip costs include” - Travel Insurance (except travelers from Germany and Austria) ❕IMPORTANT GUIDELINES: —>II suggest you, for this specific trip, be extremely lightly equipped, as we will be mostly traveling around by public transportation 🤓! It’s not mandatory, but I honestly recommend only one backpack, not even too big, for your convenience. In fact, on the first day, we will be meeting around lunchtime downtown, and we won't be able to get through the hotel in time to drop off our luggage (unless you arrive early in the morning). Also, keep in mind that you will not be able to check in alone and will still have to wait for me. Plus, it's only a 2 nights retreat guys... We won't need that many clothes 😬! —> For the first day, we will leave once you all arrive at the meeting point in Zurich HB (Central Station). At the latest, we will leave by lunchtime (or soon after), so it will be essential to book a flight (or a train) on the morning of September 23! As for the exact time of our first meeting, I’ll share it with you a couple of weeks before the actual trip, but you can consider around 1/2 PM for now. For detailed trip stops, take a look at the bottom of the page in the "Trip Itinerary" section! Zürich

Day 1-3
During our first afternoon together, after a refreshing lunch, we will venture through the streets of downtown Zurich! Among the various highlights of our explorations: - Niederdorf: part of the old town, is known for its medieval streets and squares and cathedrals. Boutiques and fine-dining restaurants dot the area, alongside cocktail bars and a few nightclubs. - Grossmünster: Zurich Cathedral, from where the Swiss-German Protestant Reformation began. Its tall towers are recognizable from all parts of the city. - Sechseläutenplatz: this very large square, faces the city's lake, and this is where the Opera House is located, surrounded by elegant buildings.
- Fraumünster Church: another prominent church in the city center -Bahnhofstrasse: this street is one of Zurich's main streets as well as number one when it comes to shopping. One mile long, it is dotted with clothing, chocolate, furniture, and souvenir stores. - Lindenhof: On top a hill overlooking the city, is a quiet and sheltered spot with a magical view of the Limmat River.

Lindt Home of Chocolate

Day 3
Main highlight of our weekend: chocolate 🍫! While in the museum, we will journey back to the origins of chocolate and experience how cocoa conquered Europe! We’ll follow its manufacturing process in modern test facilities. We will be surprised by a spectacular 9Mts chocolate fountain, as well as by an interactive tour all about the Swiss cultural heritage!
And, finally, we’ll access to an unlimited chocolate tasting!

Zürich

Day 3
To work off the morning's mountains of chocolate, after lunch, back in the city center, we will venture out on a guided two-wheeled tour! The tour will travel along bike paths through the lively and high-contrast Zürich West Quarter, with its former industrial halls that now house restaurants, cafés, and galleries. A short effortless climb will take us up to the Rigiblick funicular, where we will enjoy a breathtaking vista over downtown Zurich. Following, the route will head back down the hill through pretty residential quarters to the lake, passing many of Zurich's main sights on the way. Back on level ground, we will continue along the picturesque shores of Lake Zurich to Enge Harbor. Finally, the tour will lead through the Kasernenareal and back to the starting point at Europaallee.

Goldküste AG

Day 3
During our last couple of hours together we will take another train bound for Goldküste. Here we will spend the morning relaxing on the lakeshore and strolling among sumptuous villas and unmissable views! Personally, I will return to the city center around 12:30PM to catch my train, but for those who should stay, you can safely continue your explorations of this magical place!
