WHY GO? Col de la Vanoise is located within the Vanoise National Park, which is known for its diverse flora and fauna. The park is known for its stunning alpine landscapes, which include glaciers, high peaks, and rugged mountain ranges. It is also home to a variety of wildlife, including ibex, chamois, marmots, and golden eagles. The Col de la Vanoise is a mountain pass that connects the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys, it is one of the most famous in the Savoy Mountains and offers a great view of the Vanoise National Park. The Savoy Mountains offer a wide range of outdoor activities, including skiing, snowshoeing and snowboarding in the winter and hiking and mountain biking in the summer. There are also many opportunities for sightseeing, including visiting the charming alpine villages that dot the region, such as Pralognan-la-Vanoise (where we will be based for this trip) and Bramans. The region also boasts a rich cultural heritage, with many traditional Savoyard farms and chalets that have been passed down through generations and is also known for its delicious local cuisine, which is heavily influenced by the local dairy industry and features dishes such as tartiflette, raclette and fondue. Fun Facts: - Pralognan-la-Vanoise is one of 28 towns (communes) located within Vanoise National Park with Vanoise National Park being the first to be created in France in 1963 - Pralognan derived from “pré éloigné” (far away meadows).
