When people hear the name Bulgaria, there's typically two responses, "Where? I've never heard of it" or "What, isn't that a communist country?" And, yes, Bulgaria was once under communist rule but it is so much more, the entire land is covered in history and intrigue, magical places far from what you've experienced before. I plan to show you these places and hope you find them as intriguing as me. We'll start in Sofia where I will pick you up from the airport and take you to the accommodation via the Metro. We'll have a welcome dinner together to get to know each other, then perhaps some nighttime exploring before heading back to the hotel to prepare to travel the following day. We will catch the train to the ancient city of Plovdiv, which is a sight to behold. Whether it's the Ancient Amphitheater, Nebet Tepe, Kapana, or any of the other sites, some of which date back to around 8000 years ago, you will feel the aura of history while here. The Kapana District of Plovdiv also offers an amazing nightlife which we will explore. We will then head back to Sofia, which may look like a socialist concrete jungle, and honestly many capital cities do. However if you look past all the concrete, you can see some incredible places with even more incredible stories behind them. Whether it's the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Boyana Church from the 11th century AD, the ruins of ancient Serdica from some 6000 years ago, or even some more appealing examples of socialist architecture. Sofia has a little bit of everything for everyone.

About me! Me, well I'm 31 years old and have been traveling for the past seven years. My path into globetrotting and being a nomad was somewhat accidental, I am glad nonetheless though. My passions are learning about different cultures, philosophy, history, hiking (generally anything in nature), and adventures off the typical path, just to name a few.

Details about the accommodation: Depending on availability, accommodation will be in 3* or above hotels with the possibility of breakfast; this will be advised later. In Plovdiv we might even stay in a traditional Къща за гости (guesthouse) where you can admire the intriguing design and decor of the Bulgarian Revival Architecture of the 19th century. Keep me posted in the Q&A section if you have questions about the trip! I will reply to you as soon as possible!

Sofia

Day 1-2
We will meet in Sofia. If you're flying in I will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the accommodation. If you will arrive via bus or train than I can also pick you up from the station. We'll spend the day in Sofia, I'll give you a brief introduction to the city, and the country in general. We'll end the day with a meal altogether where we can get to know each other.

Plovdiv

Day 2-5
Plovdiv is a truly ancient and beautiful city, it is full of intrigue. After arriving we will head to the Kapana District and find a nice place to eat. We can then head to the old town and explore there. If everyone is up to it we can head up to Nebet Tepe for a picnic and to watch the sunset. On the second day, we will go to a few museums of Plovdiv's history and then enjoy the Tsar Simeon Gardens. The next day is free time. You can do as you wish. Or if you would like, we can hike up Alosha, one of the sevene hills around Plovdiv. It's not a very challenging hike, and it offers great views from the top.

Sofia

Day 5-7
We will head back to Sofia to explore its history. From the Ancient Ruins of Serdica, Sveti Georgi Rotunda, all the way to some more modern times with some examples of socialist architecture. The second last day we will go to a Ceramic painting experience where you will get to chose a item (plate, cup, bowl, etc) up to 35 bgn to paint how you like. It'll then be glazed and bake, ready for you to take home as a nice souvenir.
