Guided trip
A bit about me, Maddy here, I am a Kiwi Indian living presently in Berlin having moved here in May last year with my partner from Sydney. Having lived in 5 countries & travelled to just under 40 countries covering 4 continents featuring numerous solo trips and creating new friendships along the way, I can say with a lot of assurance, you are going to have a great time on my trips. WHY GO? Bordered by Germany, France and Belgium, the small, tiny country of Luxembourg has situated itself right in the heart of Europe. Luxembourg’s UNESCO designated old town began life as a 10th century fort and castle perched on the cliff. Further fortifications were added, but the city has retained its historical character, with many of its fortifications and historic buildings remaining intact. Although it was highly affected by its neighbors, Luxembourg’s architecture is unique, no wonder their motto is: "we will remain what we are". In Luxembourg, you can see Europe’s most beautiful ‘balcony’, which is a promenade looking over the valley and the Bock Casemates, tunnels cut through the stone cliffs. During the trip we would also visit Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland, the eastern region, which owes its name to the Swiss-like hilly landscape. Our trail will take us through a spectacular rocky landscape and breathtaking panoramas. The cherry on top being our visit to Vianden castle, one of the largest and most beautiful residences of the Romanesque and gothic periods in Europe. The castle was built between the 11th and 14th century on the foundations of a Roman castle and today ranks among the most significant historical monuments in Europe. It’s worth mentioning that this really is the only country in the world to remain as a Grand Duchy, the Duchy of Luxembourg. By the way, did you know that Luxembourg has the highest density of Michelin rewarded restaurants in the world? WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS? Exploring Luxemburg city - Bordered by Germany, France and Belgium, the small, tiny country of Luxembourg has situated itself right in the heart of Europe. Part of Mullerthal trail - Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland, the eastern region, which owes its name to the Swiss-like hilly landscape. Our trail will take us through a spectacular rocky landscape. And breathtaking panoramas, diverse natural landscape, bizarre sandstone formations and idyllic stream valleys. Vianden castle - One of the largest and most beautiful residences of the Romanesque and gothic periods in Europe. It was built between the 11th and 14th century on the foundations of a Roman castle and today ranks among the most significant historical monuments in Europe. Beaufort castle - It was probably in the 11th century that the castle began as a small square-shaped fortress on a large rock protected by a moat and a second wall above the valley. After various changes in ownership the castle was abandoned, fell into disrepair and at the beginning of the 19th century was even used as a quarry. Starting from 1928, it was repaired and opened for visitors. Bourschied castle - First mentioned in a document in 1095. At first the little square near the keep, the chapel and the palace with the great hall were surrounded by a circular wall with at least 4 towers. Work on the outer circular wall with 8 towers started shortly after the year 1350. The castle was abandoned in the beginning of the 19th century, but it was declared a national monument in 1936, and was bought by the Luxembourg State and opened to the public.
