This tour will take you to the remote Oasis of Siwa in western Egypt! An ancient settlement with a slow pace of life, lost in time, where an olive tree lined lake remarkably appears in the middle of the Sahara. You will visit the crystal clear salt lakes and experience weightlessness. Ancient abandoned villages still stand which you can wander around endlessly and donkeys roam the streets freely. These ruins are far more vast than those in the typical tourist locations, and with luck we'll have this place pretty much to ourselves. This truly hidden gem is far less travelled by tourists than the rest of Egypt due to its remote location, but the cultural rewards make this one of the most impressive and unique places you'll ever visit. Cleopatras bath, the view from the fort and the local olive based cuisine are just some of the highlights you will take away from this experience. When back in Cairo we will visit the great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx - on a choice of Camel or horseback! The last remaining of the seven wonders of the ancient world - 5000 years of history before your eyes, the pyramids have seen almost 2 million sunsets! Traveling with Dominic was great! The trip was well organized but still some flexibility for activities. Dominic was very friendly always in a good mood and took care of all trip members. Exploring Mexico was so much fun and I would definitely recommend.
You can chat with Dominic once you reserve your spot.
Day 1 - We'll get to know each other over dinner and drinks through the afternoon, and watch the sunset over the Pyramids of Giza from the rooftop in the evening. Before taking an early night for the journey to Siwa early on day 2.
Day 2 - We will take a private vehicle to Siwa, calling in for lunch in Marsa Matruh about halfway through the 8-hour journey. We will arrive in Siwa in the late afternoon, and check into the resort - in time for a nice traditional meal.
Day 3 - We waste no time! After breakfast, Tuk Tuks will take us to the crystal clear salt lakes. We will float in the salt dense waters and take pretty Instagram pictures in this uniquely special place. After calling back to the resort to wash off the layer of salt stuck to us, we will go for lunch in the town and go to explore the vast abandoned old town of Siwa. In the 1920's this town was hit by a freak flood which led to them rebuilding with more modern architecture next-door, rather than repairing the damage. With luck, we won't have to share this experience with many people, I've been the only person there before now! If we time this well we can watch the sun set from the fort which is the highest point in the ruins.
Today we will go on a walking tour, 30 minutes to Cleopatras Pool, the last ruler of Ancient Egypt visited here and it was so named after her. We can swim, take photos and enjoy Egyptian tea whilst lazing in the shade of the hip cafés around the pool. Then we will head to the temple of Aman to see what remains of what was once the principle building of ancient Siwa during its greek ruled period. Alexander the Great was said to see his visions here. In the evening, tub tubs will take us to Fatnas island to watch the sunset beyond the lake!
Day 5 - A free day in Siwa! Some options are: - sand boarding on the dunes - visiting the Gabal Darker ruins/rock, - heading to the far side of lake Siwa - Taghaghien Island resort Tonight we will stay in a hostel due to its ideal location near the bus station for the next morning.
Day 6 - We will make the journey back to Cairo via bus, again calling via Maria Matruh for lunch midway and to change buses. In the evening, we dine overlooking the Nile before heading to Cairo Jazz Club for some live music and well-deserved drinks.
Day 7 - We will visit the Ancient pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx! You can check it off your bucket list now. Followed by a seafood lunch which will mark the end of the trip. See you on the next adventure!

Does this package include airport pickup or do I have to find my own transportation?
Hi, it's not included in the price but I can help arrange your transfers. Uber is very affordable in Cairo - I would recommend this.
