From the Airport, we will travel directly to Wilpattu National Park where we will stay at Leopard Trails Luxury Camping. Wilpattu is Sri Lanka’s largest national park with an area of 130,000 hectares. It is also the oldest national park. A unique feature of Wilpattu national park is that the entire park is dotted with large sand-rimmed natural lakes known as “Villus”. The Villus collects rainwater and tends to attract wildlife, especially during times of drought. The main draw in Wilpattu is the leopard and sloth bear. It is also one of the better parks to see barking deer. Wilpattu is bounded to the north and south by 2 main rivers, the Modara Gamaru towards the north of the park and the Kala Oya to the south of the park Wilpattu is not only famous for its wildlife but also for its archaeological and historical importance. About 500 years before the birth of Christ it is believed that Prince Vijaya from India and his followers landed in a place called Thambapanni in the North West corner of Wilpattu and formed the Sinhalese kingdom. The first 1.5 km are following an old footpath which was created more than 100 years ago when this former tea plantation was still active. Even now there are Tea Bushes growing wild and some of them are more than 20 feet tall. After this first 1.5 km, you will enter a Forest tugged onto the Cliff. No Foot Paths will be seen here as we have kept it as Natural as the Jungle can be. The Crew will guide you through this ever-changing Wilderness down to the River showing you the Wonders of Nature… This extraordinary Trek, 4km down to the Secluded River, will finally open up its View to Waterfalls and Natural Pools where you can Swim, Relax & Enjoy the refreshing Waters of the Mountains. Whilst you are enjoying the Beauty, the Crew will prepare a Traditional Roti Lunch cooked by the River for You. On the way back it’s time to Test your Fitness as it will be a Steep Climb through the forest and then follow the footpath back to The Cliff Lodge. Delicious refreshments will be ready at the Lodge before you can Indulge in the Sunset on Top of the Cliff… Decks will be set up for you to gather around the Fire Ball and.. … with Cushions for Extra Comfort and Under the Blankets, you will feel like you are in a Dream world.. ..it is for Real though….. After a Lantern lit Dinner and stargazing it's time to call it a night where we Leave the Wildlife to get Busy… The following day after Sunrise we will serve you a Happy breakfast and it's time to say Good Bye until you are ready to Escape again to our Dream World hidden in Nature.
