Day 1-2
Our first two days will be in the heart of Johannesburg. We will be staying in a quiet but beautiful BnB 5 minutes from the heart of Sandton. Day 1: The first day we will be exploring Nelson Mandela Square where you will find a 6m-tall statue of Nelson Mandela sculpted by Kobus Hattingh and Jacob Maponyane – an imposing reminder of South Africa's favourite grandfather who continues to inspire. Once we have done some shopping at in piazza, we will head over to one of the biggest African Markets in Johannesburg, which is based in Rosebank. In the evening, we will head off to a night market in Maboneng. Maboneng, is a seSotho word meaning “place of light”, a fitting name for a district that has almost become a centre of creative energy for Johannesburg’s urban artists. This magical urban neighbourhood is the centre of creative energy with a mix of restaurants, coffee shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries, retail and studio space. The precinct draws the inner-city public as well as the chic, art-going crowd of the city’s suburbs, bringing life back to this downtown Johannesburg neighbourhood. We will enjoy local flavours at the market and dance at a rooftop bar.
