Join me in exploring the coastal areas of the Basque Country in northern Spain. From feasting on outstanding cuisine, experiencing the culture of this region, to exploring the rugged coastline between the cities of Bilbao and San Sebastián, this trip will be packed full of fun and activities. Some highlights include the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Basque Coast UNESCO Geopark and Playa La Concha in San Sebastián.

I recently finished my graduate studies in Europe last year and am currently living in the US while working at a coffee shop and working on some things of my own on the side. I am super excited to be back in Europe for a couple of months this spring and would love some company while exploring the Basque coast of Spain. I currently live in the mountains and love to stay active and get outside in my free time. Similarly, while traveling I like to make the most of each day usually starting early [if that is the plan] and either exploring cities by foot or getting out into nature. This trip will be a great combination of both! I look forward to meeting you :)

The accommodation will change from place to place depending on the best options available. The price of the trip includes a shared room with trip mates of the same gender in a hotel or apartment, and in some cases a hostel dorm. Bilbao

Day 1-3

Tripmates should plan to arrive by evening on May 14th. Depending on everyone's arrival, those who are present will enjoy a group dinner together where we can get to know each other and talk about the exciting days ahead. On Thursday, we will have a full day to explore Bilbao. After enjoying a traditional Basque breakfast, we'll start the morning with a visit to the Guggenheim museum. You can stay as long as you want and enjoy a relaxed day exploring the old town and city of Bilbao either together or on your own. In the evening, we will go out and have Pintxos indulging in the local cuisine and a chance to try the regional wine for those interested.

Plentzia

Day 3-4

We will start the day early and begin to make our way to the coast. We have the option to stop at Barrika beach and town as we make our way to Plentzia. Here we will do our first little hike along the coast, making our way to Armintza in time to enjoy lunch. The walk is approximately 7km and it is possible to return by bus if you don't want to walk back. The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy the beach, rent a kayak or paddleboard, and hang out until dinner.

Day 4-5

This morning will be the longest segment of our coastal drive as we make our way towards San Sebastián. Our first stop will be San Juan de Gaztelugatxe-- a small hermitage sitting on top of a tiny islet off the cost of Bakio, connected by a stone bridge. Also known as Dragstone for those of you who watch Game of Thrones. We will stop at a few towns along the way, including Bermeo-- the most important fishing port of the Basque country, and Mutriku.

Donostia-San Sebastian

Day 5-7

Saturday morning, we will start early and make our way to Zumaia for one of the highlights of the trip. Here we will enter the Basque Coast UNESCO Geopark where we can hike the 13km of coastline within the park and marvel at the unique geology of the region. There is once again the option to take a train back to the starting point, or return by foot. Today will be a day to slow down and enjoy the beauty of mother nature! After leaving the Geopark, we will make our way to San Sebastián which is our final destination. Today will be a great day to go out and experience the nightlife as we celebrate our last evening of the trip together. On Sunday, you have the option to explore on your own or see the city as a group. Some highlights include hiking up Mount Urgull, sunbathe at the famous La Concha beach, and check out the food scene. Those wanting to extend their stay in San Sebastián may do so, and those who want to return to Bilbao can join me on the trip back Sunday evening.
