'Breathe in a bit of Gujarat' is the state's tagline for tourists. Gujarat has something for everyone-heritage sites, bird watching, beaches, religious monuments, white sands of the desert, and of course drool-worthy food. In our 3.5 day trip we will be spending 2 days in the capital city Ahmedabad, visiting the Sabarmati Ashram (also known as the Gandhi Ashram, from where Gandhi began the famed Salt March), exploring an Indus Valley Civilization site, checking out a fort built in 1411, sampling the Gujarati thali (don't worry we will share!), shopping etc. And to round out our trip, we will head to Bhuj to enjoy the Rann Utsav, a yearly celebration of culture and colours in the white desert of Kutch. After watching the sunset, a camel ride, adventure sports, music and dance we will spend the night in a tent at the Tent City of Dhordo, before heading back to Bhuj for some sightseeing and where we will end our Gujarat sojourn.

About me: I am Ankita, 27 years old, born and brought up in India. I have recently realised I have travelled in foreign countries more than I have in India, and am now trying to change that. Gujarat will be my first trip with JoinMyTrip, and I am very excited to meet and experience a new state with new people. I have lived and travelled extensively in Europe and the US, and I like to keep my trips a mix of sightseeing/activities and downtime to just take in the vibes of a new place, preferably over a leisurely coffee.

Our accommodation: The first night we will spend in a 3 star hotel in Ahmedabad city, close to the city centre so we can easily commute to the places of interest. Since there will be 4 of us women, we will get two rooms, each with two single beds. The second night we will be in the train on our way to Bhuj. A 2nd class compartment has 4 berths, which will be perfect for us. The third night in Bhuj will be spent in a tent at the Tent City, Dhordo. Ahmedabad

Day 1-2

On Day 1 after checking into our hotel in Ahmedabad we will visit the Sabarmati Ashram and riverfront. From there we will take a cab to visit Lothal, one of the sites of the Indus Valley Civilisation, about 80 km from Ahmedabad city. Back from exploring the ruins, the evening will be spent wandering the markets before we partake of some delicious Gujarati fare and head back to the hotel for the night.

Day 2

On day 2 of our trip, we will explore the beauty of two distinct religious sites - the Hathee Singh Jain Temple and the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque. Then we will go explore the Adalaj or Rudabai stepwell. The evening will be free for people to do as they please, maybe visit the Museum of Textiles or shop for some bandhinis before we meet for dinner. Then we will head to the hotel, pick up our luggage and go to the railway station to catch our overnight train to Bhuj.

Rann of Kutch

Day 2-3

Reaching Bhuj in the early morning, we will avail the pickup facility of the Rann Utsav and travel to the Tent City. After checking into our tents, we will partake of the cultural and sports activities at the Utsav before heading to watch the sunset in the evening. After getting back, there will be dinner and cultural performances to enjoy.

Day 3

Day 4 will see a morning Yoga session before we check out and return to Bhuj where we will sightsee the Shri Swaminarayan Temple and the Hiralaxmi Craft Park. By 2 PM the sightseeing will end as will our trip. People will have to arrange their travel back to Ahmedabad/onwards to other amazing parts of Gujarat.
