Hi everyone, Sooo…I have been so excited about New Zealand for a while and would like to share part of my second long trip to this beautiful country with fellow adventure lovers and "culture vultures"! The best time to visit New Zealand is November to March, and I have decided to hang out there from late November to early December. About me: I'm Nasiba, 31, from Germany and Uzbekistan. I have been travelling a lot: mainly Caucasus region, Iran, and Central Asia. (Shared trips to one of these regions are yet to come!) So one can say, I am quite travelled. My style is to be sustainable while travelling, so we will be taking shared/public transportation as much as possible (although NZ is notorious for not having much of it). The cost of the trip includes all the accommodation, plus some of the transport and some of the meals. I am not charging any trip organisational fees here. All the accounting will be shared in our group chat. Here are some of the experiences we will explore together: - Roaming around the natural wonders: villages, thermal baths, beaches, alpine landscape! - Local Maori arts through dine and wine! - Exploring not so natural but equally impressive sites by taking a trip to Hobbiton! - Optionally, go surfing or checking out the wineyards! When I don't specify the trip costs like the hiking trip or surfing trip, it means it's super optional (and not expensive anyway), hence can be skipped. Most important thing is to be able to afford a great accommodation and hang out together at the major outings (Hobbiton, Maori Dinner, Thermal Baths). Towards the end of the trip, I will head over to the South Island. You are welcome to join, but it will be a different trip posted here! I have another option for exploring the North Island, check it out on my trips page!

About me: I am a solo female traveller who loves to explore "off the beaten" paths and dive into local ecosystems. I have been travelling since 2015 and some of my favourite solo trips have been to Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Israel, and Morocco.

The trip is, of course, modifiable, we can take the surfing trip another day and instead go to the Hobbiton and vice versa. There will be different options posted as different trips, check them out in my profile :) Moreover, you can later join me in for the South Island trip! Send me a message after booking or ask any questions in the Q&A. Best, Nasiba

Trip Itinerary
1

Auckland

Day 1-3
Day 1-3 will be spent to explore Auckland and surroundings. Let's spend two nights here to explore the Auckland and warm up for all the upcoming adventures! According to my Airbnb research, we can pull off 3 seperate beds apartment with a really nice kitchen and common room, and even a pool at the pointed out budget. In this time: - We mainly try to recover from jetlag, and get to know Auckland and each other. - We can cook inside and/or grab a dinner together. - Align on our plan and check again if everyone has all the equipments necessary for the hike. - Depending how everyone is feeling, we will visit and the Hobbiton village within the days of staying in Auckland.
2

Hobbiton™ Movie Set Tours

Day 3
Day 2. This present-day farm, once upon a time a movie set site is just 2 hours away from Auckland. We will take the train ride of 2 hours and 20 minutes one-way (same amount of time with car). The tour is around 2 hours and includes transportation within the village/farm. No food included.
3

Te Pa Tu - The Gathering Place

Day 3
Day 3. We will leave Auckland and visit Te Pa Tu for the evening of cultural experience. Here's what's included: - Traditional welcome ceremony - Māori Cultural Performance - Māori fusion feast - Air-conditioned vehicle - Return transport from central Meeting Point We have a public transportation connection to Te Pa Tu but if someone will be willing to drive, we can shorten the travelling time by 40%.
4

Taupō

Day 3-6
Day 3-6. We will be staying overnight at Taupo after our Maori adventure and base ourselves here for the next 3 days of further adventures! There are very good hotel accomodation options here. What is in Taupo? - Lots of marvelous thermal baths! Just google "Taupo" - From here we will take a day trip to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing! It is a very strenuous but a gorgeous hike. And it's just one day :) More details below.
5

Tongariro

Day 6
Day 5. This hike is a difficult one with 19km distance with nearly 1200m gain and loss. You need to bring really good hiking shoes along. If it's too much we can take an easier track over there. But difficult paths are most of the time the most gorgeous ones. See the video below for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FznzbTCtGWA&t=4s If the weather is bad on the day, we just replace this trip to some of the lakes around Taupo.

Auckland

Day 6-9
Day 6-9. After our super physically demanding hiking day, we can dip into thermal baths one more time and head back to Auckland, base ourselves here for the next three nights and take one of the following two trips or both! Option 1. A surfing trip to Raglan: it's one of the best surfing spots on the island. According to some of the sources, it is even the best one. You don't need to be able to surf, I am a super beginner, so I will just hang out at the shore. Option 2. If our enery levels are low, let's take a trip to Waiheke Island - Auckland's resort island :) Here we can just explore wineyards, dine and wine, recollect our memories and wrap up our trip. Considering we have three nights here, we can also do both trips. Both trips are reachable by public transportation in two hours, so both can be taken as day trips!
