Trip Itinerary
1
Catania
Day 1-2
I will first guide you through the wonders of Catania (my hometown and also home to an international airport). We will walk through the centro storico, to admire its Sicilian Barocco and learn about its history and multicultural origin. We will combine sightseeing with a good dose of nightlife, hanging out in local bars, listening to good music, and enjoying the hidden treasures of the night in Catania. You will find out the reason why my city is called the "Milano of the South" by many.
2
Aci Trezza
Day 2
I will then show you the beautiful fishermen's village of Acitrezza, the setting of the Giovanni Verga literature masterpiece "I Malavoglia". After having visited the village, we will go on a quick boat trip with a local "barcaiolo" to reach the Isola Lachea and learn about the legend of the Cyclops Polyphemus. There we will do some snorkeling in the crystal water and chill in the sun.
3
Taormina
Day 2-3
Our trip will then lead us to Taormina, one of the most unique places in Sicily, with its beautiful landscapes and dynamic vibes. We will swim in the outstanding Isola Bella, visit the Greek theater, lose ourselves in the small streets and eat delicious Sicilian food. After visiting Taormina, we will come back to Catania and spend the night there. This will allow us to rest before the amazing day 3.
4
Mount Etna
Day 3-4
We will then move to the Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe and the older brother of every Sicilian. We will do a 2h trekking to visit the lava tunnels, reach the campsite, and witness one of the most beautiful sunsets you have ever seen in your life. We will camp there and spend the night, filling our souls with the peace offered by nature. Please note that this trekking is subject to change based on the volcano activity. I will be in contact with the Chief of the Forestry Corps in order to assess the feasibility of this trekking/camping. After all, Etna is a (very much) active volcano and we need to respect its will!
5
Island of Ortigia
Day 4-5
We will come back from the Etna by doing another 2 hours of trekking and see the aftermath of the 2002 eruption and one of the volcano mouths. After that, we will drive to Siracusa to swim in the blue sea of Plemmirio and enjoy the good vibes of Ortigia, in which we will spend the night.
6
Isola delle Correnti
Day 5-6
We will chill on the outstanding beach of Calamosche (my favorite one!) and have an authentic lunch in a local restaurant. Later, we will visit the city of Noto, one of the most renowned Unesco World Heritage sites in Sicily. Finally, we will drive to Isola delle Correnti, the southernmost tip of Sicily where the Mediterranean encounters the Ionian Sea in a celebration of colors. We will spend the night camping at the beach, to embrace the sound of the sea, sing, and dance around a fire, and celebrate life!
7
Marzamemi
Day 6-7
Let's call it a "lazy" day, in which we will spend most of our time on the wonderful sandy beach of Isola delle Correnti, we deserve it after all of this adventure! During the evening we will visit the picturesque village of Marzamemi with its beautiful port and triumph of lights. We will then drive back to Catania to spend our last night there and rest our bodies and minds!
