We are Anna and Emil (38 and 39 and from Luxembourg and Argentina) and founders of our small hiking agency and heart project Maipo Expeditions. We organise a 10 day hiking trip to the volcanic Island of Madeira from April 2nd - 11th 2021 during the Easter holidays. We will be based in Camacha, in the South-East of the Island staying on Quinta Moscadinha, a beautiful Madeirean Finca with a huge garden, outdoor pool, great views, double bed rooms and a yummy breakfast buffet. During the day we will offer 8 varied hiking tours all over the island so that you get to see the best that Madeira has to offer. Highlights of the trip: - Alpine path to the Encumeada pass with ascent of Pico Ruivo (1,861m), the highest mountain on the island - spectacular rocky coast on the Sao Lourenco peninsula - levada hike through the UNESCO World Heritage Site into the green basin “Caldeirao Verde” and into the canyon of “Caldeirao do Inferno” - alpine summit tour to Pico Grande with descent into the picturesque Valley of the Nuns - Fairy forest in Fanal with centuries-old and mossed laurel trees - Ascent of the two most beautiful peaks of the highlands: Bica da Cana and Pico Ruivo do Paul - beautiful and varied mix of 2 coastal hikes, 2 alpine mountain tours, 2 tours on the plateau as well as 2 levada hikes to imposing waterfalls - lots of green laurel forests, terraced fields, rugged mountains, deep gorges, wild rocky coasts, cozy villages and great bathing places - the balanced and rich cuisine of Madeira What is included? - 9 overnight stays in a cozy and typical quinta with pool as permanent on-site accommodation (with double occupancy) - Transfer airport - accommodation - airport - all transfers to the hikes and back - halb board (breakfast buffets and dinner) - welcome and farewell dinner - satellite communication, live tracking - walkie talkies and first aid kit - complete organization of the tour - 2 professional tour guides

Day 1-2
- individual arrival to Funchal - transfer to the Quinta Moscadinha in Camacha in the South-East of Madeira, a beautiful Madeiran Finca with a huge garden and pool - welcome dinner and briefing of the hiking week

Sao Lourenco Madeira
Day 2-3
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike in Palmeira - morning: Hike over the Sao Lourence peninsula with its spectacular rocky coast (8km) - short transfer to Canical - afternoon: hike on the historic coastal path from Machico to Porto da Cruz (12km) - refreshment in the sea pools of Porto da Cruz & dinner in Porto da Cruz - transfer back to the accommodation

Pico Ruivo
Day 3-4
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike on Pico Ariero - spectacular mountain hike to the roof of Madeira, the Pico Ruivo (1,862m) over a great high-altitude path - at noon, the clouds usually wrap the peaks beautifully in cotton wool - descent over an alpine ridge path to Madeira's weather divide, the Encumeada Pass (approx. 14km) - transfer back to the accommodation - dinner

Day 4-5
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike in Ilha - ascent to a spectacular levada hike through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Caldeirao Verde to the Caldeirao Verde waterfall and into the Caldeirao do Inferno with numerous waterfalls, canons and lots of adventurous tunnels - teturn along the Levada do Caldeirao Verde to Quelmada - visit the typical straw houses in Santana - dinner in a typical straw house - transfer back to the accommodation

Pico Grande
Day 5-6
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike to Curral das Freiras - stop at the Eira do Serrado lookout point with a spectacular bird's eye view of the Nuns Valley - ascent from the picturesque Nuns Valley to the Pico Grande (1,654m) with fantastic views of Madeira's peaks and over a wonderful ridge path to the vantage point to Boca da Corrida (9km) - transfer to Canico - Cristo-Rei viewpoint and free afternoon on the beach - dinner in Canico - transfer back to the accommodation

Paul da Serra
Day 6-7
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike in the Paul da Serra / Bica da Cana highlands - hike to the two panoramic peaks of the Paul da Serra highlands to Bica da Cana (1,620m) and Pico Ruivo do Paul (1,640m) (approx. 14km) - transfer back to the accommodation - dinner

- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike to Rabacal - wonderful levada tour on the Paul da Serra highlands via the Levada Alecrim to a beautiful mountain lake, the famous Risco waterfall and the 25 springs - transfer back to the accommodation - dinner

Day 8-9
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike in the Paul da Serra highlands - hike through the primeval fairy forest of Fanal with great views of the north coast (4km) - short transfer - descent from the plateau into the so-called Madeiran Switzerland “Chao da Ribeira” with its impressive mountain slopes (8km) - refreshment in the seawater pools in Seixal - transfer back to the accommodation - dinner

Porto Moniz
Day 9-10
- breakfast - transfer to the starting point of the hike to Achadas da Cruz - descent to the Faja Quebrada Nova sea gardens at the foot of the fascinating cliffs - hike along numerous beautiful viewpoints along the steeply sloping northwest coast to Porto Moniz - free afternoon in Porto Moniz / refreshment in the sea pools - farewell dinner in Porto Moniz - transfer back to the accommodation
