About
Hi! I'm Shreya and I live in Paris! I moved here in 2018 and it was honestly one of the best decisions of my life. In the last 7 years, I've traveled solo to 25+ countries and the list keeps growing. I've learned the most invaluable lessons in life through travel and I'm grateful to be able to share these experiences with you! 🤗 I'm a gifted conversationalist and I'm genuinely interested in people. I want to know you beyond what you do, where you live, and yada yada.. I want to know what scares you, what excites you, how you broke your heart, and how you fixed it back! By creating meaningful relationships with people, I am able go beyond what separates us and be together as one!

What is the best way to start? Most of it has already been written by the other group members. I will try to give as neutral an assessment as I can. I think the most important thing is that Shreya is a very caring person who has made an effort and tried to create something good. I definitely wanted to emphasize this. However, I must honestly admit that I probably had different ideas or expectations of this trip. I will try to comment on this. My expectation was that my guide would be familiar with the areas we visited and that we would visit places/sights together. I was well aware that we wouldn't be out and about all day, but that we would at least set off together and do things together until the afternoon. I wasn't aware that there would be 6 of us (4 men and 2 women) sleeping in one room for the whole trip, sometimes on the floor or couch (so that we don't have to share 1 double bed and thus maintain a certain intimacy) with only 1 toilet and 1 shower. I thought for 2000€ / 2 weeks (mainly the accommodation was provided, 2 meals together and about 40€ for entrance fees) we deserved better as everyone works hard for their money. I am very disappointed... as sorry as I am (as Shreya is a lovely person) but I would never recommend JoymyTrip to anyone. Rather the opposite... I would strongly advise against it

I understood from the beginning it was planned during the day with the nights being free. Some little things changed and was communicated after the fact but I gave the benefit of the doubt . My main issue is at the end the day for whatever reasons ( due to booking accommodations or other logistical issues) our trip leader was barely with us . Less than half the time. Then would talk about her own financial hardships . That felt a bit uncomfortable. Some group members had to discuss to bring of the issue of “ hey weren’t we promised breakfast ? But we don’t see our trip leader in the morning should we ask about it” Another poster mentioned about spending little time at each place . That’s true and I felt it. Part of the issue was the group themselves was coordinating more logistics so those who felt uncomfortable meeting up later and navigating on their own were left to go at everyone else’s speed . That could have been something the trip leader helped with. It fell up to some to plan our morning routes and those who didn’t want to deal with it just followed along. That took some extra work so while being rushed is a fair assessment I think it should be acknowledged that as a group we helped everyone navigate . One nice person even left the first nights dinner to help someone stranded at the airport. I didn’t expect a tour guide or a plan down to the min ( personally I like exploring in generally and finding new things ) but at the end of the day I paid over 2k euros to have half the time a remote trip leader. She wasn’t always with us but I guess had time for other work obligations . I think it’s more about being with the group that one had emailed for months before rather than any discussions. I think it’s clear from the JoinMyTrip faq that however the trip is set up the trip leader should be around. Also, from a bonding perspective we lived and got to know each other which we didn’t get as much with tripleader so maybe that lead to tension with others. I think when some people got upset the first day the trip leader offered a refund. Not that I was ready for that just I don’t think anyone would fly to another country on a planned trip and last minute book and plan everything on their own . People spend weeks / months doing those things . I think without constant discussion it’s common sense to think “ hey I’m not with my group maybe they are going to get annoyed” Everyone Including the trip leader were nice and kind people. I would gladly share a beer or coffee with any of them . Though I do feel like for the experience I overpaid a lot. Especially as I work very hard and long hours for my money . It was more of a remote here are recommendations from online rather than an in person experience which is what you pay for. Much of the accommodations were pretty good. I had been nervous about one day with a potential shared bed but someone took the hit and slept on the couch. There was another time this could potentially happen which was surprising . I don’t think anyone wanted to start navigating to other accommodations so we made due While I had taken some Japanese it is true there was no language or culture intro. The 2 meal days were awesome and many of the activities planned were amazing I agree with a previous poster to a degree about group travel. I wanted an experience and I got it. Maybe not the one I wanted or maybe next time less people. Ultimately I had a great time on this trip. I needed a vacation and always wanted to see Japan. Japan is awesome and I think my back hurts now from bowing

First of all: Shreya has an open, positive manner with which I felt very comfortable. She was available around the clock via WhatsApp and always responded quickly. I can't entirely agree with the accusation that everything was poorly organized or not organized at all. Especially as the concept of "Join my Trip" is described accordingly on their website, excerpt from the FAQs: "How much freedom do the TripLeader and the TripMates have? That depends entirely on how the TripLeader has planned the trip. If the TripLeader offers a full daily program, the TripMates have little free time (don't worry, this is not the standard). If the TripLeader only takes care of organizing transport and accommodation, everyone is free to plan their own day." I think at least the latter was offered and of course I can only speak for myself at this point, but I joined JmT because I didn't want a strictly guided trip. There are other sites for that. Perhaps something like this should have been communicated a little more directly on the trip page to avoid creating false expectations. And at the risk of making myself unpopular, it was probably difficult to plan anything with the group. When there were meeting points, some were often not on time, the Airbnb's were sometimes left in a disastrous state, some things were discussed in the group but not communicated to Sherya. Sorry, but at this point I think the group is partly to blame for the fact that things were often decided too late. You should be that fair. What is unfortunately true, however, is that some of the originally planned activities simply fell through later, or plans changed very spontaneously. What I personally also found very unfortunate is that although some days were full of activities, you only had very little time for each activity. I had the feeling that I only had 20 minutes to an hour to look around each station, then I had to rush straight to the next bus/train/place. That was actually the hardest thing for me, I would have liked to have looked at or explored a few things, but unfortunately that was often not possible. As far as Shreya's sister was concerned, I can't complain though, I didn't immediately assume that she was being paid for. But! In terms of payments, I don't see why this one should have cost over 2k euros. If anything bothered me about the trip, it was the realization that I'm not a group traveler. All really lovely people, but with completely different expectations and lifestyles, so different that most of the time I just felt out of place. But that's not Shreya's fault either. I'll just leave it at that for now.
