You can also find night markets selling high-quality but affordable clothes and great food, which is my favorite part of Bangkok.
Chiang Mai
Nestled in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a serene escape surrounded by misty mountains, lush jungles, and ancient temples. Known as the cultural heart of the country, it’s where tradition meets modern creativity. Think centuries-old temples sitting alongside trendy cafés and night markets. It can be also connected to your credit card, which makes it easier to pay. Grab is available all over Southeast Asia, including Thailand’s popular towns like Bangkok and Phuket, also the Philippines’ areas like Manila.
Then, let’s talk about intra-city travel. Thailand has an excellent transport network — domestic flights, trains, and buses make traveling between regions easy and affordable. In contrast, getting around the Philippines often involves flights or ferries due to its island geography. While this can make logistics trickier, the views during the journey are simply breathtaking.

Both countries are warm and welcoming.

However, speaking from a personal experience as a female traveler, Thailand feels safer. I can easily navigate around Bangkok without worrying about getting lost. Moreover, I experience no catcalling in Bangkok or other Thai regions, like Phuket, which is a plus point for female travelers.
Moreover, the Philippines is also a safe country to travel to. The locals, especially in popular destinations like Boracay and Palawan, are helpful and friendly. However, I don’t feel the most comfortable traveling around Manila. Unfortunately, I experienced scams while hopping on taxis. With that being said, I highly recommend using Grab for safety and fixed transportation fees.
