Hi! My name is Lisa, a 27-year-old Austrian, and I am organizing a volunteer trip to the Bolivian rainforest! Work and travel at its best: explore the city of La Paz and travel to the Amazon rainforest to volunteer! I am really passionate about the rainforest and the life it inhabits - it is the green heart of our planet! <3 This is a chance to help, protect, care and support wildlife as a volunteer: from construction to cleaning to caring for animals like organizing areas of management, food, observation, behavioral studies, and much more. I will be your personal guide and will take you around La Paz and organize the transport to Rurrenabaque, where the animal sanctuary is located. I will also be present for your entire stay at the organization! :) I have never been to Bolivia myself but have plenty of experience with living and volunteering in the jungle and also can get around with my Spanish easily. My friend is currently working directly at the animal sanctuary and keeps me up to date - so if you have any questions I cannot answer myself I will contact him in the jungle of Bolivia! There is no wifi there but we can get data for our phones - the connection is there. You can find out more about me here: https://www.joinmytrip.com/en/t/tripleader/lisawinter Or on Instagram: lisas_wanderlust We will meet in La Paz, the highest administrative capital in the world, resting on the Andes’ Altiplano plateau at more than 3,500m above sea level. There we will stay two nights and then catch a bus to Rurrenabaque: the gateway to the rainforests of northern Bolivia. Included in the trip: - Accommodation in La Paz - Bus to Rurrenabaque (12 hours) - Accommodation and food at the Wildlife Sanctuary - Organizational Fee - Donation to the project If you ever wanted to really experience the rainforest, this is your chance! It is going to be a one-of-a-kind work and travel experience for sure! Due to the current situation, the organization is desperately looking for helping hands! The current regulations for Bolivia allow everyone with a negative PCR test to enter the country.

Danke Lisa....

Tag 1-3
We will stay in La Paz for two nights and explore the city. La Paz has a lot to offer and we also will take the time to acclimatize ourselves to the new country. Things to do: - The Witches Market - Placa Murillo - Full-Day Chacaltaya and Valley de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) Tour

Rurrenabaque

Tag 3-33
We will take an adventurous 12h bus to Rurrenabaque - from there it is a 15-minute boat ride to Organization for the Natives and Conservation of the Amazon. Rurrenabaque is a small town on the Beni River, known as a gateway to the rainforests and pampas of northern Bolivia. Close to the main square, Plaza 2 de Febrero, is the Our Lady of Candelaria Church. A trail leads up to La Cruz viewpoint, with far-reaching views. Across the river is the town of San Buenaventura, where the Centro Cultural Tacana has a small museum and indigenous handicrafts.

Volunteer Work - Conservation of the Amazon rainforest At this initial stage, volunteer input focuses, in addition, to support the management of wildlife, is cleaning areas that in the future we may build on, construction, conservation boundaries and paths, the preparation of bio-gardens, maintaining plantations, operations, and necessary care for facilities to continue to function properly. The work will be exhausting but incredibly rewarding! With the current Covid Situation the project is in desperate need for helping hands and people who believe that every single helping hand can make a difference in protecting the rainforests and its inhabitants. There is also the option to stay longer than a month - just let me know and I will arrange it, costs will also be a lot lower than the initial payment.

The project also supports the Native communities Ese Ejja and Tacana: They have delivered books, notebooks, and scholarly material for writing and organized a school painting activity for the children of the village. They also organize regular work activities for the volunteers to help the people of the community in whatever is needed eg. Farming, trail cutting, construction etc. We are proud to have made a webpage for their ecotourism project and also for the construction of their Facebook page.

Parque Nacional Madidi

Rurrenabaque is the main entry point to the amazing Madidi National Park. There are several companies that offer wildlife tours to the Madidi National Park from Rurrenabaque. You can find more information here: - https://www.bolivianlife.com/madidi-national-park/ - http://www.madidijungle.com/activities.php Although not contiguous, Madidi National Park combines with neighboring Apolobamba, Manurip-Heath, and the Peruvian Manu Biosphere Reserve to create one of the largest protected areas in the world. The elevation in the park varies from 1,968 to 19,685 feet (200 to 6,000 m) above sea level. The Bolivian montane dry forests, Bolivian Yungas, the Tuichi River and the surrounding rainforest combined with the glacier-covered peaks of the Andes Mountains work together to create one of the most biologically diverse ecoregions in the world. Steep slopes, meandering rivers and streams, dense lush jungles, cloud forests, and snow-capped mountains await those who venture into this remote world of the Amazon. Wildlife is comprised of 272 species of mammals, 213 species of amphibians, 204 species of reptiles, 496 species of fish, and 1,254 species of birds. Not to be outdone, the insects contribute over 120,000 species. Jaguar and cougar are some of the most hopeful predator sightings. Other intriguing wildlife includes tapir, capybara, red deer, manatee, giant river otters, and pink river dolphins. The macaw is one of the most beautiful birds that might be seen.
