Bari
Tag 1
Estimated driving hours: 1h Defined as a preeminent city where traditions and intense flavors flourish in their most genuine expression, Bari is going to be our first stop. Right after having met at the airport, in fact, we are going to visit this old treasure, usually overshadowed by the more famous southern Italian cities such as Naples and Palermo. In Bari, we’ll explore “Via delle Orecchiette”, a very particular narrow street where local old women perform an open-air exhibition, with their countless racks on which they display fresh pasta 🍝. We’ll also visit Basilica di San Nicola, dedicated to the patron saint of the city, and historic hangout in front of the dock full of boats and alive with fishermen at work.

Alberobello
Tag 1-7
Estimated driving hours: 1h 30min We'll start the day at Alberobello, famed in Italy for its characteristic Trulli, a constructive model of spontaneous architecture, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996! Right after we will stop quickly at Grotta del Trullo, a stunning karst cave located in Putignano. Discovered in 1931, it was the first cave in Apulia to be opened to tourists. The complex takes its name from the traditional trullo built right above its entrance, through which visitors descend a staircase into the enchanting underground world. Our third destination of the day will be Casamassima, a charming village known worldwide as Italy’s “Blue Village.” This small town stands out for its houses and alleyways, which are entirely painted in various shades of blue, reminiscent of the famous city of Chefchaouen in Morocco. Finally, our last stop will be Locorotondo, another characteristic apulian village.

Among other things, we will be able to admire: -Piazza Sant'Oronzo -The Roman Amphitheater -Sedile (also known as Palazzo del Seggio) -The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie After a nice lunch in the area (and maybe a taste of the famous undisputed king of Lecce pastries: the pasticciotto!). Right after we will depart for a one-of-a-kind place. The home of Vincent Maria Brunetti, an artist from Guagnano who, after a series of difficult experiences, created a “non-place” in his own image. Our next stop will be Monteruga, a small, abandoned village. The history of this village is quite unique, as it was founded during the Fascist era and was completely abandoned in the early 1980s.

As we wander through the labyrinthine streets of the town, we’ll also visit the Palombaro Lungo, an imposing and incredibly distinctive water cistern located beneath Piazza Vittorio Veneto. On our way back home, we’ll stop in Cisternino, another quaint little town in Puglia.

Polignano a Mare
Tag 7
Estimated driving hours: 1h 45min We’ll start the day with a scenic ride in an electric tuk-tuk through the highlights of Polignano a Mare, until we reach the Abbey (and village) of San Vito, a small historic seaside village. Once the tour is over, we’ll walk through the town again to soak up the atmosphere and stop at the famous Lama Monachile (or Cala Porto) beach. This iconic cove of white pebbles is located just behind the historic center and is particularly famous worldwide for hosting the Italian leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. In the afternoon we will move to Monopoli, which on the other hand, is definitely the least known of our destinations. But I assure you, you will fall in love with the narrow streets of the old town and the historic fort that was used to protect it.

Bari

Estimated driving hours: 1h After one last breakfast together, I’ll take you back to the airport (the same one you arrived at). The final schedule will be determined once we know all your departure times. BUT PLEASE NOTE: I strongly recommend that you do not book flights before 1/2 PM. In fact, although we’ll try to arrive well in advance, flights before that time could be risky.
