Causeway Coastal Route
Tag 1
The Antrim Coast Road is renowned as one of the most scenic coastal drives in Europe. Traveling up Glenariff offers a picturesque journey through a stunning glen, while Glenaan boasts rugged landscapes. In fact, there are nine Glens of Antrim to explore. We will visit charming villages such as Glenarm, Cushendun, and Cushendall, known as the 'Capital of the Glens.' One of the highlights along the route is the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, providing access to a salmon fishery on a small island. Hanging 80 feet (25 meters) above the sea, the bridge wobbles and twists with each step, making it a thrilling experience for adventurers (though not recommended for those with vertigo!).
2
Giants Causeway
Tag 1
We will explore the area in a more unique way by starting with an easy approximately 1-hour trekking on the cliff. From here, you can have an amazing view over the coastline. Excellent photo-taking opportunity. We will rest on the cliff for a light picnic in the pure nature before we walk down to the gigantic stepping stones. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, comprised of around 40,000 polygonal basalt rock columns. This large stretch of staircase-shaped rocks is the result of cooled lava from volcanic eruptions that took place over 65 million years ago.
3
Old Bushmills Distillery
Tag 1
Short stop at Bushmills Distillery. Opened in 1608, this is the oldest licensed distillery in the world and exports its whiskey internationally. You can shop in a specialist whisky shop. (Optional: you can have a guided tour (90 mins) and whisky tasting in the distillery at your own cost).
4
Dunluce Castle
Tag 1
Short stop for photo-taking at the castle. It is one of the most dramatic castle ruins in the world. Prepare to be amazed at the way this old castle hangs over the edge of the cliffs. The castle is located dramatically close to a headland that plunges straight into the sea. (Optional: you can enter the castle at additional cost).
5
The Dark Hedges
Tag 1
The most photographed natural phenomenon in Northern Ireland. It is well-known from the Games of Thrones. Ideally, we arrive before sunset when the lighting and colors are the best for photography. It is our last stop before heading back to Belfast.
6
Rathlin Island
Tag 1-2
After 1 night accommodation along the way (Bed & Breakfast ) we will take a ferry boat to Rathlin Island on the following morning. We will walk to the Rue Lighthouse along the spectacular cliffs at Roonivoolin. Our walk take place on a combination of surfaced roads and designated trails. We will be covering about half the island. Keep your ears open to hear the distinctive call of the chough: an island bird rarity. We will visit the Seabird Centre (the other end of Rathlin) by bus. A must-visit for unrivalled views of Northern Ireland's largest seabird colony and a chance to explore Rathlin's unique 'upside down' lighthouse, part of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland Trail. Here you'll have close-up views of Northern Ireland's biggest seabird colony, where thousands of puffins, razorbills, guillemots and kittiwakes and others jostle for space on the cliffs overlooking the colony from May to July. Friendly staff and volunteers are on hand to answer questions; binoculars and scopes are available to use free of charge. There is a 158-step descent to the viewing platform and lighthouse. We will catch the last ferry to Ballycastle before heading back to Belfast.
