The route continues along Via di Ripetta, where again the story of a pope emerges: in this case Leo X, we'll learn about the new tax on prostitution that transformed the city... Women who offered their bodies in exchange for money became very popular in Rome. So much so that Caravaggio used the image of a prostitute to paint the face of a virgin! You don't believe us?
