🚗 Small-Group Road Trip
Details zu diesem Trip
Get ready for an unforgettable road trip through Iceland, where dramatic landscapes, powerful waterfalls, glaciers, volcanic scenery and black-sand beaches are around every corner. 🇮🇸🚗 Over 8 days, we’ll explore some of Iceland’s most spectacular natural highlights while travelling together by rental car. From Reykjavík and the famous Golden Circle to the wild landscapes around Vík and the glacier country of Höfn, this trip is designed for travellers who want to experience Iceland beyond the city and spend plenty of time outdoors. We’ll visit Þingvellir National Park, the geothermal area around Geysir and the impressive Gullfoss waterfall before heading along Iceland’s South Coast. Along the way, we’ll discover Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, explore the dramatic coastline around Dyrhólaey and Vík, and take time for scenic walks and photography. Continuing east, we’ll enter the spectacular landscapes surrounding Vatnajökull National Park, with stops at Skaftafell, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. We’ll have time to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace, with optional walks and activities depending on weather, availability and the group’s interests. This is a road trip rather than a rigid organised tour. Iceland’s weather and road conditions can change quickly, so some stops or activities may need to be adjusted along the way. The goal is to enjoy the journey, make spontaneous scenic stops when possible and experience Iceland together without rushing from one attraction to another.

Hi! I'm a passionate traveler who loves discovering new places, hiking in nature, and experiencing different cultures. I enjoy road trips, breathtaking landscapes, and exploring historic cities. I'm especially drawn to wild and remote destinations, and Iceland is the perfect place to combine adventure, nature, and freedom — from volcanic landscapes and glaciers to waterfalls, black-sand beaches

The group will travel together in rental cars, giving us the flexibility to explore the South Coast at our own pace and stop at scenic viewpoints and interesting places along the route. Everyone should be comfortable spending time in a vehicle, getting outdoors and taking part in short walks and hikes. We’ll stay in comfortable apartments throughout the trip, with a private room for each TripMate. The apartments will provide a relaxed base after our days on the road and give us the option to prepare meals together or enjoy some downtime independently. Accommodation locations may change depending on availability, but the aim is always to choose well-located and comfortable properties that make the route practical. Please keep in mind that Iceland is an outdoor destination and the itinerary can be affected by weather, road conditions and other local circumstances. The exact order of stops may therefore change when necessary, always with the aim of keeping the group safe and making the most of the experience. -> If you have any questions about the itinerary, accommodation, driving arrangements, included costs or anything else before booking, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to clarify anything and make sure you know exactly what to expect from our Iceland road trip.

DAY 1 — JUNE 19 Arrival in Reykjavík 🇮🇸 Our Iceland adventure begins! After arriving in Iceland, we’ll pick up our rental cars and drive to our apartment in Reykjavík. Once settled in, we’ll have some time to explore the city at a relaxed pace. We’ll walk through the colorful streets of downtown Reykjavík, visit Hallgrímskirkja, explore the harbor area and stop for our first Icelandic coffee or local snack. In the evening, we’ll have our first dinner together and go over the plans for the days ahead. DAY 2 — JUNE 20 The Golden Circle 🌋💦 Today we leave Reykjavík and explore one of Iceland’s most famous routes: the Golden Circle. Our first stop will be Þingvellir National Park, a spectacular area where Iceland’s geological landscape meets its history. We’ll walk through the valley and enjoy the dramatic scenery. We’ll then continue to the Geysir geothermal area, where we’ll see bubbling pools and Strokkur erupting into the air. The final major stop will be Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls. We’ll walk along the viewpoints and take some time to enjoy the landscape. If time and conditions allow, we can add Kerið crater before heading back to Reykjavík. In the evening, we’ll return to our apartment.

DAY 3 — JUNE 21 Reykjavík → Vík | Waterfalls & Black Sand 🌊 Today the real road trip begins. We’ll leave Reykjavík and follow Iceland’s famous South Coast, one of the most scenic areas in the country, combining waterfalls, glaciers, cliffs and black-sand beaches. Our first major stop will be Seljalandsfoss. We’ll walk around the waterfall and, depending on conditions, follow the path behind the falls. From there, we’ll continue to Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. We can walk close to the waterfall and climb the stairs beside it for a panoramic view. After lunch, we’ll continue towards the coast and stop at Dyrhólaey, a dramatic headland overlooking the black-sand coastline. We’ll then drive to Vík, check into our second apartment and enjoy a relaxed evening. DAY 4 — JUNE 22 Vík & The Wild South 🖤 Today we slow down and dedicate the entire day to the area around Vík. We’ll start with a relaxed morning and explore the surrounding landscapes, with time for viewpoints, short walks and photography. Depending on weather and road conditions, we can visit Fjaðrárgljúfur, a spectacular canyon surrounded by Icelandic volcanic landscapes. We’ll also have time to revisit parts of the South Coast that we may not have had enough time to enjoy the previous day. The idea is to keep this day flexible rather than filling it with too many stops. Iceland is best experienced when there is time to get out of the car, walk around and simply enjoy the scenery. In the evening, we’ll return to Vík for our second night.

Höfn

DAY 5 — JUNE 23 Vík → Höfn | Into Glacier Country 🧊 Today we continue east towards Höfn, entering one of the most spectacular landscapes in Iceland. The journey takes us deeper into the area surrounding Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier, with enormous glaciers, black-sand plains and mountains surrounding the road. We’ll make a stop at Skaftafell, part of Vatnajökull National Park. Depending on the weather and our energy levels, we can choose an easier hiking route towards Svartifoss or a glacier viewpoint. Skaftafell has several trails suitable for different levels of hiking. We’ll then continue east towards Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. This will be one of the highlights of the trip: huge pieces of ice floating in the lagoon, with the glacier in the background. Just across the road, we’ll visit Diamond Beach, where pieces of ice from the lagoon are washed onto the black-sand beach. After enjoying the area, we’ll continue to Höfn, where we’ll check into our third apartment close to hofn. DAY 6 — JUNE 24 Höfn | Glaciers, Nature & Adventure 🏔️ Today there is no long transfer — our apartment close to Höfn will be our base for the entire day. This gives us the chance to experience the southeast of Iceland without rushing. We can start the morning with another visit to the Jökulsárlón area, taking our time to photograph the lagoon and surrounding glaciers. If available during our travel dates, we could also consider a boat trip among the icebergs. The lagoon offers guided boat trips of around 30–40 minutes during its operating season. Another option is to explore Skaftafell more deeply, with a longer hike towards the glacier landscapes. For something quieter, we could explore Skálafell–Hjallanes, between Jökulsárlón and Höfn. The area has marked walking trails and an approximately 8 km circular hike for those who want a more active day. We’ll finish the day in Höfn, enjoying dinner and a relaxed evening after a day surrounded by glaciers and mountains, before coming back to our apartment

DAY 7 — JUNE 25 Höfn → Reykjavík | The Road Back 🚗 Today we begin our journey back towards Reykjavík. Rather than treating the day as a simple long drive, we’ll use the South Coast as one last opportunity to stop at places we loved or missed on the way east. We can stop again around Vík, take one last walk on the black-sand coast, or visit one of the waterfalls along the route. The idea is to keep the schedule flexible and allow plenty of time for unexpected stops and photographs. Once we arrive in Reykjavík, we’ll check back into our apartment and enjoy our final evening in Iceland. We can have a final dinner together, explore the city at night and celebrate the end of our road trip. Stay: Reykjavík Highlights: South Coast · Vík · scenic stops · final evening in Reykjavík DAY 8 — JUNE 26 Goodbye, Iceland ✈️ Our adventure comes to an end. After breakfast and checking out, we’ll drive to the airport, return the rental cars and head home with a week full of waterfalls, glaciers, volcanic landscapes, black-sand beaches and unforgettable memories. End of the adventure — until the next one.
