Exploring the Paradise Island of São Miguel | Azores

We will discover the beautiful island of São Miguel, in Azores, together, explore São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores, and discover a beautiful mix of volcanic landscapes, crater lakes, thermal waters, scenic viewpoints, local traditions and charming coastal villages. We’ll use a rental car throughout the trip, allowing us to explore the island comfortably and stop at viewpoints and hidden corners along the way. Rather than rushing from one attraction to another, we’ll take our time to enjoy the landscapes, discover local places and decide together where we want to spend a little longer. We’ll begin in Ponta Delgada, the island’s lively capital and our base throughout the trip. We’ll have time to explore the historic centre on foot, enjoy the local atmosphere and settle into the Azorean way of life. From there, we’ll explore both the western and eastern parts of São Miguel. Highlights include the spectacular Lagoa do Fogo, the viewpoints around Sete Cidades, the volcanic landscapes of Furnas, natural parks, tea plantations and some of the island’s most beautiful coastal viewpoints. A special part of the trip will be experiencing São Miguel’s volcanic heritage. We’ll visit the thermal areas around Furnas and enjoy one of the island’s thermal baths, surrounded by lush volcanic scenery. We’ll also discover some of São Miguel’s local traditions, including the island’s tea-growing heritage and opportunities to try local food and specialties along the way. On our final full day, we’ll keep the schedule flexible.
