Communism Tour
Romania with a Local
Details zu diesem Trip
Growing up hearing stories of my family's experiences during the communist era, I've developed a fascination for the history and culture of ex-communist Romania. From the food shortages and suppressed freedoms, to the ultimate revolt that ended with the execution of ruler Ceaușescu, the era left a lasting impact on the country.🇹🇩 While today's Romania is a new and free capitalist nation🇪🇺, traces of the communist past remain, not only in the buildings that we still live in, but in the stories of the people who lived through it. Our trip will cover 3 important buildings to understand life under communism: ● Ceaușescu House (the house in which the ruler was living in with his family - a luxurious house, full of art and history) ● A communist apartment (to make the contrast between the ruler's lifestyle and the ordinary citizens' way of living) ● The Palace of the Parliament (second-largest building in the world, ordered by Ceaușescu) Included in the price: ✔️ Accommodation (private room with private bathroom, near the center of the city) ✔️ Tickets to Ceaușescu's House, the communist apartment and the Palace of the Parliament Not included: ❌️ Flight Tickets ❌️ Food & Drinks ❌️ Other Activities We will have a guide for all of our objectives, and of course you will have me during the whole trip, to tell you more spicy stories😅, that have been passed onto me by my parents.

About me! This is Elena, Romanian student (Master's in Cultural Studies) and photographer (in my free time). I have a fascination for the communist period, and my nation's culture and I'm excited to pass my knowledge (and enthusiasm😁) onto others as well.

Details about the accommodation: The accommodation is hostel-type, with private rooms and private bathrooms. The rooms are all in the same building so it is easier for us to gather before our trips in the city. It is situated near the center of the city, so we will be close to most of our objectives and also close to other attractions in the city. Any questions about the trip? You can let me know in the Q&A section!

Bucharest

Tag 1-2
We will all gather at the accommodation that is near the city center, in the afternoon (of course if your flight is later, we can make it in the evening too). After you leave your stuff, we can already go for a city short tour. We will wander around in the old town, maybe grab a drink🍸, have something to eat🥘 -- I'll introduce you to our traditional cuisine😋.

The House of Ceaușescu

Tag 2-3
On our second day, we will start our tour of Communism, and the first location on our list is The House of Ceausescu (the house in which the ruler was living in with his family - a luxurious house, full of art and history). Afterwards, we will continue with the communist apartment, so we can get a sense of how ordinary people were living during Communism, especially in contrast to Ceausescu's house. In the evening we can wander around the city (that is full of history as well), and we can go for something to eat/drink.🥂

Palace of Parliament

Tag 3
For Sunday, after having breakfast, we will go for a tour to the Palace of Parliament (second-largest building in the world, ordered by Ceaușescu). Afterwards, of course, we can go for something to eat/drink (as much as your time allows us to).😊
