2- weeks in Costa Rica: Volunteering, Nature, Wildlife, Beach and Surfing

Our first stop is San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica since most international flights get there. I will come and pick you up at the airport and we will then go to our accommodation. We can then hang out in the city center, visit the central market and have our first dinner "tica". On the day after we will head to our next destination by the public transportation bus-ferry-bus.

We will wake up early and use public transportation to reach Santa Teresa. It will be a trip that could take up to 7 hours, (the price of the transport is included in the price because it must be booked in advance online). Please note that roads and transports are not the best in Costa Rica, but that's part of the experience. Once we get to Santa Teresa we will go to our accommodation and watch our first sunset at the beach with a drink in our hand while enjoying a really good meal. The next day we are going to enjoy some time at the beach and we will have a surf lesson!!! On the next day, we will have our day boat trip to Isla Tortuga where we will have time for some snorkeling, an amazing lunch, and some free time to relax at the beach. On the 4th day, we will go to the nature reserve of Cabo Blanco, where around 150 species of trees have been identified and around 240 species of birds have been recorded. We will then go back to the main street of Santa Teresa where we will have our last dinner. On the next morning, we will head to CIRENAS by private taxi.

We will take a private taxi that will take us to CIRENAS. It will take about 30 minutes. Once there we will spend 5 nights in amazing bungalows in the middle of the jungle at about 10 minutes' distance by walking from the beach. If you like being in an isolated place, just you and nature and no WiFi connection that's the place for you. Cirenas will help you reconnect with nature, and thanks to the local people who work there and dedicate their life to learning and teaching how to be more sustainable, you will get to experience the Pura Vida life and the importance of taking care of our planet. We will have 3 full days of volunteering, some of the activities we will be doing are our beach clean up, planting or transplanting, turtle patrols at night to find and put them in a safe place the turtle eggs, learning everything about these little animals, and hiking the Caletas Ario wildlife refuge that Cirenas protects and takes care of. During our stay, we will have all three meals included. For whom might be interested, there is also the possibility to organize a horseback riding tour at sunset on the beach (price is not included in the price but we can plan it in advance and pay once we are there). Please note that even though I highly recommend volunteering at CIRENAS, it is not an experience for everyone. You will have for sure some time to enjoy the sunset at the beach but most of the time will be hard work. Also, take into consideration that the bungalows where we are staying are surrounded by nature, which means that there will be bats, mosquitoes, bugs and there might be scorpions, and spiders. If you think that would not be a problem for you and you are an easily adapted person, then this is the right experience for you and I will assure you that you will not regret it, it will change your point of view. On the next day, we will have a private taxi that will take us to Cobano, from there we will take the public transportation bus-ferry-bus to go back to San Jose and sleep there one night.

From CIRENAS, we will get to San Jose probably at night so we will only go to have dinner and then to our accommodation. On the second day we will use the public transportation to visit Manuel Antonio national park that contains a charming combination of the rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. The forest is the home of iguanas, monkeys, sloths and millions of colorful little crabs. It will be a day trip excursion so we will then go back to San Jose in the evening. On the next day unfortunately our trip comes to an end. We will have a private transfer that will take you to the airport.
