πŸ‚ Peak autumn foliage in Kyoto
πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japan's culture in every dimension
πŸ’§ Coveted onsen & lakeside ryokan stay
Details zu diesem Trip
🍁 Momiji-Lit Temples, Onsen Evenings, and the Golden Route Reimagined 🍁 This 14-night curated journey through Japan is designed for travelers who want to experience the country during one of its most breathtaking seasons in late autumn, when maple leaves turn crimson in Kyoto's temple gardens, mist rises over Lake Biwa at dawn, and the year's most beautiful light bathes the ancient streets of Gion. We'll follow the beloved Golden Route , Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, but weave in the quieter, lakeside soul of Hikone, hidden neighborhood stays, an authentic ryokan experience with soaking onsen, artisan workshops, mindful tea ceremonies, hidden shrine hikes, and backstreet food adventures that most visitors never find. This is Japan at its most balanced: the iconic bucket-list moments alongside the everyday rhythms of local life. You'll carve your own chopsticks with a master artisan, taste sushi rolled in a century-old machiya, ride the shinkansen past Mt. Fuji, wander lantern-lit Gion after dark, soak in a rooftop onsen overlooking Lake Biwa, and settle into a leafy Tokyo neighborhood far from the tourist trail. Every logistic, from train transfers to booking workshops, is handled for you. ‼️ Limited to 3 Travelers ‼️ This is an intentionally intimate journey. With only 3 spots plus your guide, you'll experience Japan with plenty of space to breathe, personalized attention, and the flexibility of a genuinely small group. I may consider increasing the group size by 1-2 people only if a tripmate wishes to bring a partner to share a room. πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Why Japan in Late November & Early December πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Late November into early December is one of the most magical windows to visit Japan, and often overlooked for blossom season. This is the height of kōyō (autumn foliage) season across Kyoto and central Japan, when maples, ginkgos, and Japanese oaks explode into shades of scarlet, gold, and burnt orange. Temple gardens glow. Mountain hikes become watercolor paintings. Even city sidewalks are carpeted in color. The weather is crisp and comfortable. You'll find cool mornings and evenings with sunny, dry afternoons ideal for long walks, garden visits, and outdoor experiences. The humidity of summer is long gone and the light is soft and golden, every photographer's dream. Our timing places us in Kyoto during peak foliage, when hotels sell out months in advance. We finish in Tokyo just as the city begins its early winter illuminations, with neighborhoods aglow and a festive hum in the air ahead of the holidays. It's a season that feels alive but never overwhelming, making it perfect for slow, meaningful travel. πŸ—ΊοΈ The Curious Traveler πŸ—ΊοΈ This trip is designed for travelers who want to experience Japan fully without sitting behind a tour bus window, You'll explore on foot, on trains, in workshops, and at counters where locals sit next to you. It's for those who love the small rituals as much as the big sights: the perfectly poured coffee, the whisked bowl of matcha, the bento eaten on a moving train, the quiet moment inside a shrine at dawn. This is an active adventure. You'll navigate Japan's excellent public transit system (with me guiding the way), climb temple steps, walk many miles per day, and move between four different bases across two weeks. In return, you'll be rewarded with authentic experiences, comfortable and thoughtful accommodations, plenty of free time to rest, and moments that most Golden Route travelers never get to have.

I won't be joining in the public bath experience, because of my tattoos that aren't easy to cover up. πŸ’« Kamenoi Hotel Hikone β€” Lakefront Ryokan (2 Nights) We'll slow the pace with a stay at a traditional lakeside onsen ryokan overlooking Lake Biwa. Your private room features beautiful lake views and a private bath, while a traditional kaiseki dinner, Japanese breakfast, and access to the hotel's hot spring baths are all included. πŸ’« Multi-Story Neighborhood House β€” Minowa, Tokyo (5 Nights) We'll finish our adventure in a spacious neighborhood house in Tokyo's historic Minowa district. Each traveler will have a private bedroom, with shared common areas, a fully equipped kitchen, and a relaxed local atmosphere that's just a short subway ride from many of Tokyo's top attractions. Whether we're staying in a boutique hotel, a traditional ryokan, or a local townhouse, every accommodation has been carefully selected to offer comfort, authentic character, and a welcoming place to unwind after each day's adventures. #Please note: This is also a multi-story property without an elevator. Happy to help with luggage as needed. ---> Room-sharing note: All guests will have private rooms throughout the trip. If a couple or pair of friends would prefer to share rooms & beds at a reduced rate, please ask at the time of booking and I'll see what I can arrange (kept small to maintain the intimate group size). πŸ—“οΈ The bookings have been confirmed with the properties. Feel free to look up the hotels for more information about the accommodations. 🎏 From vibrant Osaka and historic Kyoto to the peaceful shores of Lake Biwa and the endless energy of Tokyo, this journey is designed to help you experience the very best of Japan through authentic culture, stunning autumn scenery, incredible food, and unforgettable moments with a small group of like-minded travelers.
