Hi, I’m Danie - A food loving, photo-taking, travel addict. I have been living in Madeira for the last year and a half and I am looking forward to showing you around this little slice of Paradise. Over time, I have found the hidden gems, secret spots, and less-touristy activities that really set this trip apart from others. So…. 📍 Join me on a guided tour of the Magical Madeira Island this holiday season. This small Portuguese Island really knows how to celebrate, and Christmas is no exception. Imagine city streets lit up with twinkling lights, art installations, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and holiday spirit. Then imagine high mountain peaks flooded with the rising sunlight and clouds below. What about swimming in natural rock pools, wine tasting, and visiting small villages with a huge cultural imprint. Because of the size of the group, we are allowed some flexibility in our itinerary. I have booked transportation for 3 full day tours. We can pick and choose what and what we would like to see. I want this to be a tailored experience, but also have the freedom to do what we want. This trip is about all of us. 💰 What’s included: - Accommodation for 7 nights (2 TripMates in a shared room in a hotel in Funchal and an Airbnb in Calheta) - Welcome Drinks - Transportation throughout the trip - Lunch at the Chicken Spot - Dinner at Socalco and Maktub - Pukiki cocktail - Entrance fees to attractions - Some snacks 💰 What’s not included: - transportation to and from the airport - breakfast - most lunches - extra activities or transportation I can't wait to explore Madeira with you!

Funchal

Tag 1-2

The first day, we will meet for welcome drinks on the hotel’s rooftop bar. After getting to know each other, we will go to dinner and try our very first Ponchas (A traditional Madeiranese cocktail). We will see all the Christmas lights and decorations that adorn the city.

Porto da Cruz

Tag 2-3

The second day, we will do an easy sunrise hike to São Lourenço. There is just something about watching the sun rise out of the ocean. Then we will go to the famous (well, not really, but it should be) Chicken Spot for lunch before heading off to Porto da Cruz for either another quick hike or a tour of the historical rum distillery. From there we will head to Santana, a beautiful part of the island that is home to the traditional A- frame houses. This will be a private tour with transportation included. We will be staying in Funchal and will have the evening free to do what we want.

Funchal

Tag 3-4

Day three will be a free day in the city of Funchal. Here you can go to the famous market, Mercado Dos Lavradores. Then walk around the old town, discovering the street art on Rua de Santa Maria and trying traditional Portuguese snacks, Pastel de Nata, anyone? Or you can take a scenic cable car ride to the botanical gardens of Monte. You can do a whale and dolphin watching tour, go golfing, take a luxurious spa day, have a picnic at Santa Catarina Park, go swimming in one of the many oceanside pools, go on a food tour, go down hill mountain biking, or do a wine tasting at Blandy’s Wine Lodge. The island will be decorated for the holiday season all month, so there will be plenty to see and do throughout our holiday.

Tag 4-5

On the fourth day, We will be moving from our accommodations in the lovely Funchal to the west side of the island, to the village of Calheta. On the way will stop in the fishing village Camara de Lobos for a casual lunch and optional swim. This town is full of art and steeps in culture, a must-see on the island. Then we will go Cabo Girao Skywalk, and take in the stunning views. We will have dinner either at the Airbnb or the Calheta Marina.

Fanal Forest, Madeira

Tag 5-6

Day five includes: A trip to Fanal, an enchanted forest, where we can see the fog roll in and experience a whole different side of Madeira. Then we can hike through the forest along the levada or head down to Porto Moniz and take a swim in the volcanic lava pools. From there we will stop for lunch and then head to Seixal, one of Madeira’s only beaches; the fact that it's all black sand adds to its majesticness. From there we go to São Vicente and will stop in a few places to take in the sites. Our last stop on the tour of this side of the island will be at Quinta do Barbusano. It is a small winery high above the valley of São Vicente with sweeping views below. It is truly magical. We will head back to Calheta for the evening.

Tag 6-7

On day six, we have a free day to explore this side of the island. There are the options to go hiking, hang gliding, canyoning, 4-wheeling, deep-sea fishing, going to the Saccharum for a spa day and a swim in their infinity pool, going on a levada walk, whale & dolphin tour, yoga, or just hanging out at the beach. We will all go to Socalco Nature for dinner. A hidden gem on this side of the island that includes a surprise 4-course meal menu and looks over the Calheta Marina. Will stay at the same accommodations while we are on this side of the island.

Paul Do Mar

Tag 7-8

Day seven, we will be going to Pukiki, Madeira’s very own tiki bar for some late afternoon cocktails before heading to dinner in Paul do Mar. We will watch the sunset and maybe even see some surfers before heading to Maktub for our farewell dinner. Then back to our Airbnb for a good night's rest before traveling the following day.

Tag 8

This will be our final day together. :( Pending when everyone’s flight is, we can arrange transportation back to Funchal or to the airport if needed. Or have a nice brunch. The final day of the adventure that was Madeira Magic.
