Forget the 8-day tourist sprint. This 13-day expedition is designed for active explorers who want to experience the true soul of Jordan, not just tick off sights. We'll take our time to delve deep, trading rushed schedules for profound experiences. Our journey will lead us from the ancient Roman cities of the north to the breathtaking canyons of Dana. We'll dedicate a full day to conquering the wonders of Petra on foot, from the Treasury to the Monastery. But the true heart of our expedition lies in the Wadi Rum desert. Unlike other tours, we will spend three nights here, allowing us to go beyond a simple jeep tour. We will hike a remote desert mountain for 360° views, share a meal with a local Bedouin family, and watch the stars in one of the darkest skies on earth. This is Jordan, unfiltered and unforgettable. This trip is for those who believe travel is about connection – to nature, to culture, and to each other. Are you ready? Our Symbiotic Impact We believe in travel that connects and respects. Active CO2 Compensation: We take responsibility for our footprint. We offer a transparent service to calculate the CO2 emissions for both your individual international flights and our local road trip in Jordan. You will have the option to fully compensate for your journey through certified climate protection projects, allowing for a climate-neutral adventure. Local Value Creation: ~70% of your trip costs go directly into the Jordanian economy. By staying in family-run guesthouses and Bedouin camps, engaging local hiking guides, and eating in local restaurants, we ensure our visit benefits the communities we meet. Efficient Group Travel: We travel together in one single van driven by us (your TripLeaders). This "road trip" style not only reduces our carbon footprint significantly compared to individual rental cars but also creates a unique team spirit. Human-Powered Exploration: Our focus is on active discovery. With two full-day hikes and extensive walking explorations in Petra and Jerash, we minimize our motorized impact while maximizing our connection to the landscape. Culinary Delights & Dietary Needs (Vegan Friendly!) Jordanian cuisine is legendary, and we will make sure you taste the best of it! The food culture is built around "Mezze"—a colorful array of small, shared plates that are naturally healthy and often plant-based. Expect to feast on the creamiest Hummus, smoky Moutabel (eggplant dip), crispy Falafel and fresh salads like Fattoush or Tabbouleh. Special Diets: As your TripLeaders, we both follow a vegan lifestyle ourselves. From our own experience, we know that Jordan is incredibly accommodating. Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or have other dietary restrictions, we understand your needs and will ensure you are well-cared for at every meal—even in the desert, where our Bedouin hosts prepare delicious vegetable versions of the traditional "Zarb" (underground BBQ). You won't just be fed; you will be delighted! 📹 Video Note Please note: The breathtaking video currently shown above is a placeholder to inspire you with the beauty of Jordan. We are currently in the editing room creating our own personal introduction video for you, which will be uploaded shortly!

We are Birgit and Raffael, the founders of Symbiotic Guides and your dedicated TripLeaders for this expedition. As passionate travelers who have explored over 70 countries, we have learned that the most memorable journeys are those built on shared experiences and authentic connections. That's the philosophy behind our travel style. We don't see ourselves as tour guides in the traditional sense, but as facilitators of an incredible group experience. We handle all the complex logistics so you can fully immerse yourself in the adventure. Our expectation for the trip is to create a small group of open-minded, curious, and active travelers. We're looking for people who are happy to tackle a challenging hike, share stories over dinner, and approach new cultures with respect and enthusiasm. Let's create some lifelong memories together!

We will be staying in a carefully selected mix of authentic and comfortable accommodations that reflect the character of each location. This includes: - Modern, well-located hotels in Amman. - Charming, family-run guesthouses with stunning views in Dana. - A comfortable mid-range hotel within walking distance of the Petra entrance. - An authentic, private Bedouin camp in the heart of the Wadi Rum desert (our "Other" accommodation), complete with proper beds and facilities. Please note: All rooms are based on double occupancy (a shared room with two separate beds). If you are a solo traveler, you will be paired with another traveler. If you apply as a couple, we can also arrange for a double bed.

Day 4: Mount Nebo, Madaba & Sunset in Dana We leave the city behind and travel south. To beat the traffic and crowds, we will visit Mount Nebo first, standing where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land. On a clear day, we should be able to see the Dead Sea and even as far as Jerusalem. Just a short drive away lies Madaba, famous as the "City of Mosaics." We will visit the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George to witness a masterpiece: the famous 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land. But we won't just look at history—we will touch it. We’ll visit a local workshop where you can try your hand at the ancient art of mosaic making yourself. Leaving Madaba behind, we start our journey south along the spectacular King's Highway. On the way, we will make a pitstop at the charming Sunset Cafe. It’s a great spot for a light snack or a drink, usually accompanied by some friendly resident cats keeping us company. Fully refreshed, we continue until the landscape opens up into the Great Rift Valley. Welcome to the Dana Biosphere Reserve! Upon arrival, we’ll settle in and head to a charming local shop to enjoy fresh juice, tea, or Bedouin coffee while watching the sunset over the canyon.
9

It is the perfect spot to watch the sunset paint the massive sandstone cliffs of the canyon in incredible shades of red and orange.

On our way south, we stop to explore the imposing Shobak Castle, a remote Crusader fortress perched dramatically on a hilltop. We arrive in Wadi Musa (Petra) in the early afternoon and check into our hotel. But we won't wait until tomorrow! We will use the late afternoon to enter Petra for the first time. Without the morning crowds, we'll walk through the magical Siq canyon and experience the reveal of the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) bathed in the golden light of the late afternoon sun. It’s the perfect, stress-free introduction to this Wonder of the World. In the evening, we return for the magical Petra by Night experience to see the Treasury lit by thousands of candles – a highlight that is already included in your adventure subject to weather conditions.
11

Wadi Musa

Tag 6-8
Day 7: Petra - The Monastery & Royal Tombs Since we've already seen the Treasury, we can dedicate today to the deeper wonders of Petra. We'll head past the Roman Theatre and the Royal Tombs, making our way through the ancient city center. Our main goal today is the hike up the 800 steps to the Monastery (Ad Deir). Larger and more remote than the Treasury, the Monastery offers incredible views over the Wadi Araba. We’ll have plenty of time to explore the high places and hidden corners of this massive site before heading back. Day 8: Petra to Wadi Rum - Stargazing & Bedouin Stories The morning offers a choice: Optional: A 3-hour horse-riding adventure through the mountains. Alternative: If you prefer not to ride, you can visit Petra again by your own, or simply enjoy a relaxed morning in town. After our morning explorations, we will gather for a tasty lunch in Wadi Musa to recharge. At midday, we drive south into the heart of our expedition: Wadi Rum. After checking into our camp, we’ll start our immersion with a special 2-Hour Night Tour. We’ll head to a secluded desert area or cave to enjoy stargazing away from any light pollution. Our guide will prepare fresh tea over a wood fire while sharing captivating stories about the desert and Bedouin life.

Day 9: Wadi Rum - The Ultimate Jeep Expedition Get ready for a full-day exploration of the famous sights! We’ll jump into 4x4s to visit Lawrence’s Spring (Ain Lawrence), the towering Sand Dunes, and the ancient inscriptions of Wadi Khazali. We’ll see Burj Al Saqr, Lawrence’s House, and the unique Mushroom Rock. We’ll enjoy a freshly cooked Bedouin lunch right in the desert. In the afternoon, we visit the Burdah Rock Bridge, take a 30-minute walk through Siq Al Bara, try Sandboarding, and climb the Umm Fruth Rock Bridge. We end this epic day watching the sunset in the White Desert with Bedouin tea. Day 10: Wadi Rum - Hiking Jabal al-Hash Optional: Sunrise Hot Air Balloon (Extra cost applies) Today we head to the south of Wadi Rum for a spectacular hike on Jabal al-Hash. We chose this mountain because it offers even better panoramic views than Umm Ad Dami. The hike takes about 3 to 4 hours and is a true highlight for active travelers.
