Day 1: Arrive in San Cristóbal. Colonial Wonders and Hippie Vibes Today’s journey to San Cristóbal de las Casas offers a blend of exploration and serendipity. At 5:30 pm, gather for a briefing on our upcoming adventure. It’s a chance to set the stage for our journey and connect with fellow travellers. After that, head out for our first group dinner! We’ll spend memorable days exploring the myriad attractions, ensuring you experience the best that San Cristóbal has to offer. - Activities: Explore the colonial town of San Cristóbal de las Casas. - Optional Extension: Add 1 night pre-accommodation and join our walking tour - Meals: Not included - Facilities: The hotel has Wi-Fi and an excellent location. There are ATMS and laundry facilities conveniently located a few blocks away - Airport Transfer: Approximately 1.5 h / 80 km. We highly recommend you book your transfer before arrival to avoid being overcharged. Our first stop is San Juan Chamula, where ancient rituals intertwine with modern Christianity, offering a fascinating glimpse into indigenous culture. We’ll then continue to visit Mujeres Sembrando La Vida, a cooperative that hosts a Tsotsil learning centre, providing insight into local traditions and community projects. Returning to San Cristóbal, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the town’s museums, including exhibits on Mayan medicine, orchids, folk costumes, and more. Alternatively, wander through the downtown area, sampling the local cuisine and vibrant nightlife. - Activities: Included: Explore the Tzotzil Church of San Juan Chamula and visit the Mujeres Sembrando La Vida Community Project. Boat Tour around El Sumidero Canyon Today, our journey leads us to Chiapa de Corzo, where we’ll delve into the heart of this charming colonial town. After soaking in the local atmosphere, we’ll embark on a private boat tour to explore the awe-inspiring beauty of the Sumidero Canyon, ranked among Mexico’s Top 10 Natural Wonders. As we cruise along the canyon, marvel at the towering walls reaching over 1,000 feet high, while keeping an eye out for the diverse array of endangered species that call this area home. - Included Activities: Visit the colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo. Day 4: Driving day. Nature’s Splendour and Turtle Liberation Today we set off early in the morning with a rollie breakfast in tow, destined for Oaxaca’s Pacific coast. Upon arrival at La Ventanilla Beach, we’ll be greeted by the mesmerising hues of the sunset. If the timing aligns with nature’s rhythm, we’ll have the chance to witness a remarkable event: a turtle liberation. As we soak in the sights and sounds of the beach at La Ventanilla, be mindful of the soaring temperatures, reaching up to 35ºC, and the probability of mosquitoes in the evening. While swimming is not recommended due to strong waves, the coastline offers a breathtaking backdrop for relaxation. - Activities: Included: Turtle Liberation (if available). Free: Beach sunset at La Ventanilla - Included Meals: Rollie Breakfast, Cook Group Lunch, Dinner - Facilities: Hotel, fans and mosquito nets, with limited Wi-Fi access available - Route: Approximately 8.5 h / 520 Km - Day 5: Mangrove Marvels and Sunny Beach Bliss Embark on a journey of ecological wonder as we explore the rich biodiversity of the mangrove ecosystem with Lagarto Real Cooperative. Glide through the tranquil waters on a boat tour, immersing ourselves in the lush flora while keeping our eyes peeled for sightings of crocodiles, turtles, iguanas, and an array of bird species. After our mangrove adventure, the day is yours to enjoy the laid-back charm of Mazunte village, just a 10-minute drive from La Ventanilla. Relax and swim on the pristine beach and hike to Punta Cometa for breathtaking vistas. Please note that our itinerary may vary depending on the availability of the turtle liberation event. If it occurs today instead of yesterday, we’ll prioritise this unique experience over the sunset hike. - Included Activities: Mangrove Boat Tour. Short hike to Punta Cometa. Day 6: Embracing Mezcal, Tradition and Celebration! Our day begins with a visit to the Maguey fields and a traditional mezcal factory, where ancestral traditions are meticulously preserved. Delight in the flavours of authentic Oaxacan cuisine! Following our exploration, we’ll drive to Oaxaca City, where our introductory walk will unveil the city’s rich cultural heritage. As we step into the heart of the city, we’ll be greeted by the captivating sights and sounds of the Day of the Dead celebrations beginning to unfold. Prepare to immerse yourself in a vibrant tapestry of tradition and celebration! Over the next three days, our itinerary includes half-day activities outside the city and ample time to enjoy the colourful celebrations within. Please remain flexible as our plans may vary depending on the unfolding events. As we make our way to the capital, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any traffic delays that may extend our journey. Upon arrival, we’ll dive straight into an introductory walk around the historic centre of Mexico City. From the iconic landmarks of Bellas Artes and El Zócalo to the lively atmosphere of the mariachi square and traditional cantinas, there’s no shortage of sights and sounds to explore. - Included Activities: Explore Mexico City’s downtown on an introductory walk - Included Meals: Cook Group Breakfast - Facilities: Hotel, Wi-Fi, with ATM, currency exchange, and laundry services available in town - Route: Approximately 4 h / 280 Km. Travel time may vary depending on traffic conditions - Day 12: End of Tour Thank you for joining us… Wait for you back, Happy Trails Amig@s!
