Johannesburg is South Africa's biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement. Its sprawling Soweto township was once home to NELSON MANDELA and DESMOND TUTU. The cities infrastructure matches leading first world cities. Johannesburg is the birthplace of entrepreneur ELON MUSK, the founder of SpaceX, Tesla, and other groundbreaking companies. Musk was born in Pretoria, a city near Johannesburg, and spent much of his childhood in the region before moving to the United States. On this trip, we will be staying in the heart of the city... Sandton which is a beautiful urban area well known for its beautiful buildings, international standard shopping and world-class restaurants. As the business hub of South Africa, it attracts many international travelers. ABOUT THE TRIP I am looking for 3 to 5 TripMates to join me on this beautiful, fun trip. Light-hearted souls who are seeking to explore the world and have a good time away from home. There will be relaxation, exploration, clubbing and the crème de la crème of this trip... smoking cannabis legally. Note that we will only have 1 night of the cannabis experience but respectfully. Not all TripMates have to do it, but those that are interested. So be ready for some fun and lots of laughter and be a part of engaging conversations. NB: Cannabis in South Africa has been decriminalized by the country's Constitutional Court for personal consumption by adults in private. Locals love to smoke cannabis for relaxation, stress relief, medicinal and recreational purposes. So this is one of the coolest things to try when you are in South Africa. (Only applies to those who are interested in the experience.) WHAT TO EXPECT: 🌍 Hiking on a mountainous trail. Bring your hiking boots and sunscreen 🌍 Art appreciation 🌍 Jozi Lifestyle 🌍 Museum where you'll learn a some history of South Africa 🌍 Local cuisine 🌍 Spa treatment. Muscle tension? Don't worry, you'll walk out feeling brand new 🌍 Skydiving. Make sure you have your brave T-shirt on 🌍 5 Star Culinary experience

ABOUT ME Hi! My name is Xolile, I'm 31 years old and I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was an Airbnb host for half a decade, I have a lot of experience accommodating travelers, finding cool local spots and creating a warm welcoming environment for guests. I excelled in Travel & Tourism at school. That was the window opening to my travel career and life. What makes me passionate about traveling is my love for seeing the world, connecting with new people, doing new things and having great food. I included a lot of restaurant experience in this trip because I want to share the culinary experience of living in Jo'burg. Don't look at the price because this experience will be worth Gold. In my free time, you can catch me at home meditating, practicing Yoga, at the gym, reading a book, or creating new travel content for my Instagram travel page. I'm fun, reliable, and easy to be with. This trip is a walk into my mind. You'll get to see my favourite spots, the Johannesburg lifestyle, how people party, experience a weed session, and of course eat lots of great food.

Hector Pieterson Memorial

Tag 2-3
DAY 3 The Hector Pieterson Museum is a large museum located in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa, two blocks away from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed in 16 June 1976, when he was only 13 years old. The museum is named in his honour, and covers the events of the anti-Apartheid Soweto Uprising, where more than 170 protesting school children were killed for resting being forced to learn in a foreign language (Afrikaans) so that they can serve the white man in his language. The museum features films, newspapers, personal accounts and photographs, the most famous being the iconic photo by Sam Nzima. A symbol of resistance to the brutality of the apartheid government when race determined if you are upper or lower class. A South African tour isn't one without learning a little bit about the history of where it comes from.

Mandela's House

Tag 3
The South African activist and first black president - Nelson Mandela helped bring an end to apartheid and has been a global advocate for human rights. The Nelson Mandela National Museum, commonly referred to as Mandela House, is the house on Vilakazi Street, Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa, where Nelson Mandela lived from 1946 to 1962. It is located in Soweto township, a short distance up the road from Tutu House, the home of the famous Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The house is a single-story red-brick matchbox built in 1945. It has bullet holes in the walls and the facade has scorch marks from attacks with Molotov cocktails. The inside hosts some original furnishings and memorabilia including photographs, citations given to Nelson Mandela, and the world championship belt given to Mandela by Sugar Ray Leonard. Mandela House strives to be a world-class visitor attraction and a leading center for the preservation, presentation, and research of the historical heritage of the South African history and Nelson Mandela's contribution to its liberation. After seeing the Mandela house, we will walk a short distance to where we will relax and take in the atmosphere of the Soweto township.

1947 on Vilakazi Street

Tag 3
After a day full of history and calming walks around the township, we will be hanging out in a cool, exciting new restaurant on Vilakazi Street - the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners lived! Today it’s a social hub, constantly a buzz in Soweto. On the menu they have local cuisine like Mala Mogodu. The dish is considered a delicacy in South Africa. Mogodu is a combination of chopped serobe (cow tripe), and mala (intestines) served as a stew, often with hot pap or dumpling or samp. This delicious, hearty meal brings a taste of home and comfort. I cannot wait to share this experience with you!

DAY 5 One thing for certain is after a hiking experience, easing down the muscles from tension is so important. I thoughtfully chose the Leonardo spa because it is right next to the restaurant that we will be visiting for the day, and it has one of the best facilities around. The Leonardo Spa combines ancient therapies with the latest in beauty and restorative wellness to restore harmony to both mind and body.

Everard Read

Tag 5-6
DAY 6 A little bit of Art appreciation? What do you say? Everard Read is Africa’s oldest commercial art gallery. Evolving within the continent's economic powerhouse, Everard Read has since its inception been associated with pre-eminent artists working in Southern Africa. Throughout the 20th Century, a large proportion of South Africa’s most important paintings and sculpture graced the interior of the gallery in central Johannesburg. Everard Read has also been involved in sourcing Fine Art from acclaimed international artists and continues to do so. This, over decades, profoundly stimulated the tastes and sophistication of art collectors in a country somewhat isolated during apartheid. In the dynamic contemporary era in South Africa, Everard Read is at its core a gallery dedicated to exhibiting paintings and sculpture by South Africa’s finest modern and contemporary artists. Here's a little exercise to summarize the art and your experience of seeing it: Think of three words that summarize your impressions of the art you have seen. This should be a considered response, acknowledging the information you gathered and feeling you experienced during your visit. Deciding on these words will help you connect with what you have seen, consolidate how you feel about it, and make your visit memorable.
