Barcelona, one of the coolest Mediterranean cities. Famous for its excellent weather and beaches, it is also renowned for its gastronomy, architecture, high-end art culture, nightlife and sports. It is simply THE best pick for a fun, enriching trip. Nice to meet you, I'm Lua! It's been 3 years since I moved to Barcelona, and I am super excited to share with you a nontraditional visit to the capital of Catalunya. Mostly (but not only) for those who already visited the city before, for this time the idea is to savor 4 days of hand-picked attractions and activities mixing different cultural scenes we have available in town. We will visit three fantastic museums: the National Art Museum of Catalunya (which takes place in a beautiful palace); the Moco Museum, with some of the greatest names of modern and contemporary art; and the Poble Espanyol, an open air museum with 117 buildings from different regions of Spain, offering traditional architecture, food and craftsmanship of the country. We will also pay a visit to one of Gaudí's masterpieces Casa Batlló, an outstanding building which was completely reformed by the architect, which converted it into a true work of art that is also extremely functional. The experience of visiting this jewel is enhanced by the audiovisual and virtual reality features, which will provide a multidimensional event. The best way to learn something is practicing it, so we will take the next step in our immersion by attending two workshops. After getting much inspiration from Antoni Gaudí, we will learn how to create our own mosaic piece of art. But it is not only about art that we will learn, but also about gastronomy. Have you already tried one of Spain's most popular dishes, the paella? We will learn everything we need to make this delicious traditional meal made with rice, vegetables and meat or seafood. In this class, we will also taste delicious tapas and sangría. I don't know yours, but my mouth is already watering. Completing our encounter, we will also visit art galleries while walking around the charming Gothic neighborhood; we will give a complete touristic round in the city, passing by its main spots with a hop on hop off bus, we will watch a thrilling Flamenco show, and we will visit the Catalan Music Palace. Who am I looking for? I'm searching for 3-4 sunny TripMates interested in art, history and culture. It is preferred that you eat seafood, as it is very present in the Spanish gastronomy and will be included in the workshop we will participate. You will be staying at an airbnb or a bed & breakfast, in a shared dorm with 1 or two persons. If you want a private bedroom, please inform me and we can try to arrange it. I want us to have a fun cultural holiday, having a great time learning new things with like-minded people. You can check all details of this plan below on the daily activities section. If there is any sightseeing you would like to go to, just let me know, and we can talk with the group and manage to include a stop if the majority agrees with it. Please note that the entry tickets to all activities are included in the price. What is included in the price? - Accommodation in a shared dorm - Ticket for 24h hop on hop off bus - Entrance to 3 museums - Ticket to 2 workshops (material included) - Entrance to the Catalan Music Palace - Ticket to a Flamenco show -Metro ticket What's not included? - Flight to Barcelona - Transit from airport/bus staion to airbnb - Meals (apart from the paella) - Any souvenirs or other purchases

Gothic Quarter

Tag 1-2
I will be expecting your arrival on Friday morning. We will begin our cultural excursion diving into Spain's gastronomy with a workshop where we will learn how to cook Paella, a dish that is 1000 years old. We will meet our professor, visit the famous La Boquería market and have our cooking lesson while tasting tapas and sangría. The workshop lasts 3 hours and once we are done delighting ourselves with our own Paella, we will walk around the Gothic Quarter. During our stroll in this iconic neighborhood of Barcelona, we will pass by various independent art expositions. We will finish the day watching a Flamenco show. Flamenco is a music and dance style based on various folkloric traditions of southern Spain. Definitely a must if you want a full immersion in the culture.

Gràcia

Tag 2-3
On the second day we will begin by giving a full round in Barcelona. Refresh our memories passing by the most important sightseeings of the city with the hop on hop off touristic bus. There are two different routes, and they last approximately two hours the whole round. We will stop to pay a visit at Casa Battló, one of Gaudi's masterpieces. The house actually wasn't built by Gaudí, but completely reformed. It's original owner, Mr Josep Batlló, granted full creative freedom to the arhitect and, despite the project entailed demolishing the building, Gaudí decided to reform it, doing it between 1904 and 1906. The artist completely changed the façade, redistributing the internal partitioning, expanding the lightwell and converting the inside into a true work of art. The inside of Casa Batlló is a marvel of design. Gaudí collaborated with the very best artisans of the time, working with wrought iron, wood, stained-glass, ceramic tiles and stone ornaments. This exuberance will never cease to amaze you, but the most surprising thing is that it is always based on functionality. To make it even more fascinating, the tour makes use of virtual reality and audiovisual productions, offering an immersive experience in the house. We will get plenty of inspiration there and then follow up to our next stop: the mosaic workshop. In the classic neighbourhood of Gracia, we will attend a class with a local famous artist in her studio. She will share with us Gaudí's secrets and guide us on creating our own mosaic piece of art!

Montjuïc

Tag 3-4
On our third day we will head to Montjuic, a large hill full of wonders. Gardens, castles, museums and marvelous viepoints. We will visit the National Museum of Art of Catalunya, where we can see one of the best collections of Romanesque Art in the world. The museum is located in a historical building, a palace constructed in 1929. From the museum we can walk a bit around the hill, where we can have beautiful views of the city as well as enjoy the nature. We will continue our day visiting the Poble Espanyol, a charming open-air museum with a total of 117 buildings from various regions of the country. We will feel the soul of Spain, admiring traditional architecture, buying local craftsmanship and enjoying traditional food. This open-air museum is built like an Iberian village with typical houses, small streets, a town hall, schools, shops, restaurants and even a monastery. After this immersion, we will appreciate a beautiful sunset at the Magic Fountain and then finish our day eating some Pintxos in the Bohemian area of Poble Sec, a neighbourhood next to Montjuic. Pintxos (or Pinchos) are small snacks traditional in northern Spain. Often eaten in bars, they usually have a bread basis and a vast variation of toppings to choose.

El Born

On our last day we will visit the iconic Moco Museum, where we will see modern and contemporary art of great names such as Dalí, Warhol, Basquiat and Banksy. Finishing that, we will try the most flavorful cheesecake and then pay a visit to the Palau de la Musica Catalana, filling our eyes with the beauty of this palace. The rest of the day will be free, I will have some extra activities available for those who will take a flight back late at night.
