😎 It took me over 194 days backpacking in Southeast Asia to discover the country that combines beautiful scenery with spirituality & wellness. 🌴 Here's the itinerary I propose: 1. Arrival to Denpassar and transportation to Ubud 2. Stay in Ubud: - day trip to waterfalls, temples & rice fields - 3 classes pass (yoga, meditation and/or soundbath) at Yoga Barn to use during free time - hike to Mount Batur & camping overnight on summit to see sunrise - spa day 📢 Note: Ubud is a lively place full of events and during our stay there may be kirtans, ecstatic dance, cerimonial cacao or tea cerimonies, full moon parties and others, so bring some extra cash (around 50EUR should be enough to cover them all) in case you want to partake! 4. Stay in Nusa Penida; day trip in the island 5. Stay in Gili Air; snorkeling trip 📢This is a great spot to get your scuba / free diving certification, if you have some extra days to prolong your stay and complete the course.

💁🏽 A little about me. In the beginning of 2023, I started a 9-month solo adventure through Southeast Asia. I covered 26 745 km and stayed in each country for at least one month, crossing off my bucket list Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. 💙 I want to share with you what made me such a fulfilled long-term backpacker: friendly locals, lush jungles and majestic mountain ranges, idyllic beaches with countless coconut trees, mystical landscapes, delicious traditional food... This is also my attempt to give back to the places, people & communities that rendered me so many wonderful memories! And hopefully raise awareness around some of the challenges faced, namely environmental, inspiring others to venture to this part of the world in a conscious manner, as there is much to be appreciated & preserved. Will you join me in a beach clean-up? 🤗 I want to find TripMates who are open-minded, adaptable, curious, adventurous, mindful and foodies (I'm vegetarian but I will accommodate all diets)!

🏕️There will be 3 types of accommodation during our trip: A. Shared DORM with our fellow TripMates in Ubud and Nusa Penida B. Private TENT in summit of Volcano Mount Batur C. Private BUNGALLOW in Gili Air 🚽Note: you will NOT have access to bathrooms & showers when camping overnight in Mount Batur (nature is your friend 😏). P.S. All pictures shown were taken by me during the backpacking trip! Any questions about the trip? You can let me know in the Q&A section!

Ubud

Tag 1-4
"It’s the small square offerings made of tree leaves, with colourful flowers, a small portion of rice, and incense placed on streets and house entrances to prevent evil spirits from entering, on high altars in honour of ancestors or carried overhead all the way to communal temples. It's the locals dressed in their patterned sarongs getting together for yet another ceremony. It's the temples with multi-tiered shrines and fringes made of sugar palm fibres (that underwent a very precise “haircut”). It's the greenery that makes you forget about the dry season, and the ancient trees home to cheeky monkeys that often pay a visit to nearby cafes..." - Night of Arrival - Check in to your accommodation in the heart of Ubud. Spend the evening exploring the vibrant streets and nearby Jalan Monkey Forest Road, where you can find traditional Balinese handicrafts, artwork, and lively cafes and restaurants. ☝️ Day 1: Ubud Tour - Start your day early with a visit to the iconic Tegalalang Rice Terraces, a stunning example of Balinese rice cultivation. - Explore the sacred Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple, an 11th-century complex featuring intricate rock-cut shrines and relief carvings. - Visit the Tirta Empul Temple, known for its holy spring water and purification rituals. - End the day at the Tegenungan Waterfall, a picturesque cascade surrounded by lush greenery. ✌️ Day 2: Mount Batur Sunrise Hike and Camping - Embark on a late hike to the summit of Mount Batur, an active volcano, to witness the breathtaking sunset. - After the hike, enjoy a well-deserved dinner and relax at the campsite. - Camp overnight on Mount Batur, stargazing and enjoying the peaceful ambience. - Wake up to thousands of head lanterns lighting the way in time to see a beautiful sunrise. 👌 Day 3: Spa and Wellness - Indulge in a full day of relaxation at a renowned spa in Ubud. - Join yoga, meditation or sound bath sessions. - Spend your last hours in Ubud making any final purchases before departing for your next destination. - Packing & Leaving the Day After -

Mount Batur

"We started the hike on the afternoon of my birthday, in time to see a dreamy sunset warmed up by the steam of the volcano. The last considerable eruption was in 1926, destroying the upper part of the then highest peak in Indonesia; now the summit is "only" 1717M. After, we set up a tent facing a spectacular night sky that sent my way 2 shooting stars..." Many people typically visit this volcano on a morning tour, setting off around 1 AM to hike in the dark and witness the sunrise. However, I've found a guide who offers a different option. The alternative plan involves starting the hike in the afternoon, timed to catch a beautiful sunset warmed by the volcano's steam. After the sunset, you can set up a tent to admire the starry night sky and witness shooting stars. Then, you can rest until dawn and wake up to join a crowd of people with head lanterns to experience the breathtaking sunrise. This unique experience lets you enjoy the volcano's beauty at different times of the day, from the golden hour of sunset to the starry night sky and the magical sunrise, all in one trip! Check the last page of this guide for the tour's details.

Penida Island

Tag 4-6
"The trail often succumbed to the weight of our feet, chunks of soil crumbling every few steps. Fortunately, unexpected camaraderie and dialogue started to pervade the interactions of the strangers in line, who began extending a helping hand in less steady parts of the track and asked for or gave priority to facilitate the ascends & descends..." Nusa Penida is a stunning destination boasting a coastline with shades of blue. Some of its spots are among the most popular in Southeast Asia; if you’re on social media, chances are you’ve seen pictures of Kelingking or Diamond Beach. ☝️ Day 1: Arrival and Island Tour - Start your day early by taking a fast boat from Sanur or Padangbai in Bali to Nusa Penida. - Upon arrival, either rent a scooter or meet your guide and begin a tour of the island's most iconic spots. - Visit the famous Kelingking Beach, known for its unique T-rex-shaped cliff, and take in the breathtaking views from the lookout point. - Stop at Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach, two natural rock formations sculpted by the crashing waves. - Enjoy the crystal-clear waters and white sand of Diamond Beach. - End your day by watching the sunset at one of the picturesque viewpoints, such as Saren Cliff Point or Tembeling Beach. ✌️ Day 2: Relaxation and Exploration - Spend the morning relaxing on one of Nusa Penida's pristine beaches, such as Crystal Bay or Pasih Uug Beach. - In the afternoon, consider taking a hike to explore the island's interior, where you'll find lush forests, waterfalls, and traditional villages. Please note: some of the beaches and coastal points are accessible only by sinuous, steep, and precarious dirt tracks. Choose carefully to ensure your safety! Wear appropriate footwear, always carry plenty of water and snacks with you. - Packing & leaving the day after -

Gili Air

Tag 6-9
"The beauty of the Gilis may reside in their contrast with the environment most visitors come from, punctuated by the noise of traffic, the compression of skyscrapers & housing blocks, nature confined to small areas. No matter which of the 3 islands you choose, there are no cars or motorbikes: everyone walks or takes a bicycle to get around, and untouched nature is predominant, with countless coconut and banana trees, or frangipani and bougainvillea flowers..." ☝️Day 1: Arrival and Settling In - Upon arrival at your accommodation, take some time to rest and refresh after your journey. - Explore the island on foot or by renting a bicycle to take in the tranquil atmosphere and lush natural surroundings. - Enjoy a traditional Indonesian meal at one of the local warungs for dinner. ✌️Day 2: Snorkeling Adventure - Begin your day with a guided snorkeling tour, exploring the vibrant underwater world surrounding the Gili Islands; witness the diverse marine life, including colorful coral reefs and tropical fish. - After the snorkeling tour, spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach or trying out water activities like stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking. 👌Day 3: Departure or Extension - If you have time, consider extending your stay and completing a scuba diving or free diving certification course. - Alternatively, bid farewell to Gili Air and take a boat back to Bali, to head to the airport for your departurec, or continue your journey in Lombok or Flores.
