This is our 11hr somewhat scenic train trip to Melbourne, 10h 50 min, arrival time 18:30 arrived at Melbourne (Southern Cross) Station. Albury is a middle stop among 18. Any British rail fans will see that the XPT is a copy of the British Rail Intercity 125's. The train trip go through numerous little townships along the way - some of which you would never see if you were driving. That is country scenic, not ocean scenic, to some it could be a little dull. Nevertheless, I feel this would the downtime and re-group time preparing for the next leg. Some tips: 1. Don't go First Class, there's no seating difference between First and Economy is the sitting cars. 2. Request Car 'C' at the time of booking. Car C is where the buffet is located, but separated by an automated door. Due to this, the saloon section is about a third of the size of other sitting cars. Fewer seats, less crowded and closest to buffet when meal service is called. And still considered Economy. 3. All the food onboard are pre-prepared and reheated or packaged. So if you're particularly wishing for something fresh like a salad, take it with you.
