Day 1-14

1

Mondello

Day 1-14

We will stay in a really nice villa in Mondello, with 4 bedrooms and enough space to work for all of us! In Mondello, beautiful beaches are waiting for us once we finished work. The vibrant city of Palermo is located 20 min by car!

2

Day 14

2

Palermo

Day 14

Palermo will be so close to us that we can spend every night over there if we can and also if we all agree, i have some friends over there they own some restaurants so we will be able to taste some amazing palermitan food, and there are many spots where we will be able to buy our own grocery plus really nice fresh seafood places and not expensive ones too, there are so many spots that we will be visiting around the city since i have been living there for about 4 years.

Day 14

3

Sferracavallo

Day 14

The beach of Sferracavallo is part of the Marine Protected Arena of Capo Gallo and Isola delle Femmine and is geographically situated right between these two. Inserted in the homonymous seaside resort characteristic for its maritime past: Sferracavallo was in fact an ancient fishing village that based its economy on this type of activity. Legacy of the ancient past: the numerous restaurants where you can eat fresh fish a stone’s throw from the sea.

Day 14

4

Cefalù

Day 14

Cefalù, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is one of the busiest holiday destinations and resorts on the island. Is located on the northern coast of Sicily, about 70 km from Palermo, The city is dominated by a monumental rock that rises up to 270 metres in height already known to the Phoenicians as “promontory of Hercules” on which the Temple of Diana stands, a megalithic building linked to the worship of the water, as indicated by the nearby cistern dating from the ninth century BC. The historic district is lying in the shadow of this bastion and clings around its beating heart which is undoubtedly the Duomo, a gigantic cathedral built by Roger II, the Norman.

Day 14

5

San Vito Lo Capo

Day 14

an Vito Lo Capo is a small seaside town in northwestern Sicily, Italy. It’s known for its beach, which is on a sheltered bay overlooked by Mount Monaco. In the town center, the 15th-century Santuario di San Vito is a fortress-like structure with Arab-Norman architecture. Arab-Norman influences can also be seen in the tiny Santa Crescenzia chapel, on the main road out of town, and the circular Torrazzo watchtower.

6

Day 14

6

Trapani

Day 14

Over the years the city has developed a flourishing economic activity related to salt extraction and trade, bluefin tuna fishing, and marble exportation. The cultural hub of the whole area, it hosts one of the oldest High Schools in Sicily, many libraries and a large number of interesting museums. Walking through the old town, the signs of the passage of various civilizations over the centuries are immediately evident, and all left architectural, artistic and monumental evidences. Its oldest and characteristic streets are: Via Garibaldi, Corso Italia and Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

7

Day 14

7

Favignana

Day 14

Favignana is the largest and most important of the Egadi Islands, three islands off the western coast of Sicily. Favignana has good, frequent ferry connections with the other islands and with Trapani; the proximity of Trapani Airport makes the island remarkably accessible from the rest of Europe. This easy access hasn't - yet - spoiled the island, which is a fairly low-key destination most visited by Italian holiday-makers. Although there are tourist amenities, the island's character seems little-altered, and travellers who come here are happy to fit in with the leisurely island way of life. One of the charms of the Egadi Islands is that they have never been populated with villas of the rich, nor frequented by the showy, and no out-of-character attractions have been developed for tourists, so compared with the crowded tourist islands of Capri and Ischia, and the chic atmosphere of some of the Aeolian Islands, Favignana and its Egadi siblings have a refreshing simple authenticity.

Day 14

8

Erice

Day 14

A really pretty old town, northwestern Sicily, it lies at 2,464 feet (751 m) above sea level on the top of Monte San Giuliano (also called Monte Erice), just northeast of Trapani city. The town originated as a settlement of the Elyrir (an ancient Sicilian tribe) and was fortified by the Phoenicians and contested by the Carthaginians and Romans. Known in antiquity as Eryx, it was famous throughout the Mediterranean for the temple of Venus Erycina, which grew out of a local Greek cult of Aphrodite. Later occupied by the Saracens, the town was conquered in the 11th century by the Norman count Roger I of Sicily, who called it Monte San Giuliano. Although the town is primarily medieval in character, ancient remains include cyclopean walls with Phoenician inscriptions and fragments of the celebrated temple. The principal church is the Chiesa Matrice (1314), with a portico from 1426 and a detached tower from 1312.

Day 14

9

Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro

Day 14

The Zingaro Reserve is one of the most admired natural gems in Sicily. There, we will experience the sea as it was centuries ago, if not millennia; the work of man lacks almost entirely, except for some rural houses. There is not one coastal road, there are no cars, no noise except the one coming from wind and waves. The preserve was established because of the document signed by thousands of citizens that have prevented the construction of a street connecting directly Scopello to San Vito Lo Capo. Thanks to them, there is only a “face to face” between man and the genista, the olive, holm oak, between the walker and the curious eyes of a fox or a seagull that met by chance on their path.

10

Day 14

10

Mount Etna

Day 14

Mount Etna, ‘a Muntagna or Mungibeddu, is one of the biggest active volcanoes in the world. We can climb to the top, through fascinating itineraries and paths, that from the wonderful sea of Taormina, go uphill through lunar landscapes, till we find rarefied air and even snow.
