special Essaouira day trip

special A night in the desert
Hi, guys! This time around we are going to explore the fascinating Morocco! During a 6 days/5 nights retreat we will discover all the different and exciting things that Marrakesh and its surroundings have to offer! We will discover the hidden gems of this city, including the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, Ali Ben Youssef Madrasa (an Islamic school dating back to the 14th century that closed its doors in 1960), the characteristic souks of the Medina, with their exotic colors, smells, and flavours. But that's not all! We will also embark on three fantastic adventures to discover Essaouria and the Agafay Desert (where we will spend New Year's Eve, and the more adventurous among us will even have the opportunity to enjoy a camel tour).

But first... It’s-a me, Giulia! I'm the typical Italian girl, raised on Margherita Pizza 🍕 and weird hands gestures! I love meeting new people and getting to know new cultures. Whether you are looking for a new friend, a new mum or a new mascotte, I can be the one for you 😬!

Where are we staying? 🏡 Our main accommodation will be a small but comfortable apartment in the center of the Medina. It provides shared rooms, but everyone will have their own personal bed. Specifically: -Room 1: 4 single beds -Room 2: 1 double bed (30€ overcharge for the double one, if used privately. If shared, no overcharge requested.) We will also enjoy a beautiful terrace, which we will take advantage of for outdoor included breakfasts to start our days in the best way! PLEASE NOTE: unfortunately the apartment has only 1 bathroom. Take that into consideration, as this kind of accommodation requires requires patience and respect for the time needed by the whole group as a single entity (for example, this means that it will not be possible to spend too much time in the shower). Our second accommodation (where we will stay during New Year’s Eve), will, instead, provide two private tents with bathroom (double beds). What about the transportation?🚙 We will mainly move around by foot, or by or via the shuttle/taxi services provided by the organized tours we will be joining. A shuttle service will be available for transportation to and from the airport (first and last day) at a cost of €5 one-way. On the arrival, the trip will be a single journey at a fixed time. The final departing schedule will be notified once all TripMates' arrivals have been received (most probably in the afternoon, but tbc), in order to guarantee the shuttle service to as many people as possible. PLEASE NOTE: for those arriving, unfortunately, at a completely different hour from the final shared one, it will be necessary to arrange independently the transfer from the airport to the city center (taxi, tho, are always available). The trip costs include 💰:
-All the accommodations (city apartment & tent in the desert) -All breakfasts -One dinner (31st of December) -Day trip to Essaouira
-Guided tour of the Souks (approximately 4 hours) -Ticket Entrance to Ali Ben Youssef Madrasa -Quad Bike Tour to Palm Oasis and Jbilat Desert -Food guided tour
-Wi-fi connection in the first accommodation -Travel Insurance (unluckily, for now, provided only for travellers from Germany and Austria)

 What is not included 💸:
-Flights -Food & drinks (Lunch & Dinner)
-Airport shuttle (around 4-10€ one way, depending how many we will be) -Camel ride (optional activity in the Agafay desert, around 25€ per person, cash)
-Saadian Tombs (11.90€, for those who intend to book an admission ticket, further details will follow) -Bahia Palace (6.60€, to buy on site, cash) OR El Badi (10€) -Jardin Majorelle (14€, for those who intend to book an admission ticket, further details will follow) -Other activities not mentioned in “The trip costs include”
-Tips for the locals -Travel Insurance (except travellers from Germany and Austria) ❕IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:
—>I always suggest my TripMates to be lightly equipped, as we will be sharing the same apartment🤓! Usually, a big hiking backpack (or at most a trolley size carry-on luggage) for the all load is enough, together with a small bag 🎒 for the daily explorations.
—> Always bring with you some cash 💶. It can certainly be convenient to carry a small amount of euros, but I recommend withdrawing money directly in the local currency (dirhams) using a debit or credit card enabled for foreign withdrawals. For reference: 1 euro is approximately 11 dirhams. —> Dress in layers 🧥: despite the location, from December to January, you will need to bring warmer clothing for the evening, especially in the desert where there is a greater temperature range (sweatshirts, wool sweaters, jackets). A down jacket, hat, and thick socks may also be useful. (No worries, before the actual trip I’ll send you guys a list with all you will need to bring with you!). —> While keep taking about a proper outfit, don’t forget to bring a scarf or shawl to protect yourself from the wind or to cover your shoulders and head in religious places. —> At the moment, for most European countries, you do not need a visa to enter Morocco, only a Passport or ID card valid for traveling abroad 🛂. Remember however, to check online the guidelines for your Home Country (AND REMEMBER: Entry is only permitted with a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of expiry)! For a detailed description of the trip stops, take a look at bottom of the page in the "Trip Itinerary" section! For any other question or curiosity don’t mind to send me a message here on JoinMyTrip 🤗 Can’t wait to meet you soon, Giulia *The apartment and all the activities planned may be subject to variation based on both the weather and the number of TripMates. Every change to the original plan will be notified in advance and another option/experience will be provided instead.

Marrakesh

Tag 1-2
On the first day, we will meet directly at the airport ✈️ (the time will be announced in detail in advance)! As mentioned in the description, it will absolutely be possible to arrive at another slot time for solo explorations (in which case we will meet directly in front of the apartment at an agreed time). While for those traveling together with me through the shuttle, we will first check-in at the apartment. In the late afternoon (or evening depending on the time), we will take the opportunity to explore the Medina for the first time, wandering (almost) aimlessly through the streets of the souks until we reach the famous Jamaa el-Fna square, a place known for its open-air theater atmosphere with street performers, musicians, snake charmers, and vendors (among other things, it has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO).

Marrakesh

Tag 2-4
MORNING After a hearty breakfast, we will begin our first morning in Marrakech with a guided tour of the Medina and the Souks. That will include (among other things) a visit to the tanneries at Bab Debbagh and the Ali Ben Youssef Madrasa. AFTERNOON At 4 PM we will then depart for our Quad experience! The 3 hours trip will allow us to embark on an adventure in the desert as we’ll ride among Berber villages and groves of

Essaouira

Tag 4
The day will require a little patience at the start for the 2 hour and 45 minute journey by car/shuttle bus from Marrakesh to Essaouira. However, as I always say, long journeys allow us to enjoy a variety of different landscapes... so don't despair! Once reached our destination, we will be free to explore both the Medina and the port area for the rest of the morning. Among the various points of interest, we will visit: -Fish Market -Old Port -Jewish Quarter (Mellah) -City Walls -Pescador Mogador -Horloge D'Essaouira -Sqala de la Ville In the afternoon, we will take advantage of the long sandy beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, characterized by a wind that makes it the ideal place for sightseeingg sports enthusiasts such as surfing and kitesurfing. After resting for a while, we will return to the Medina for an afternoon snack at the famous Café Taros. In the evening, we will return to Marrakech.

Agafay Desert Camp

Tag 4-5
MORNING We will set out once again to explore Marrakech. We will wake up early and take a half-hour walk to the Saadian Tombs, known for their refined details and architectural styles. The Chamber of Twelve Columns, in particular, is an impressive place, with detailed decorations that attract attention. Immediately afterwards, we will move on to the Bahia Palace (or El Badi depending on the group preference), one of the most important architectural works in Marrakech, built with the intention of creating the most impressive palace of all time. Both of the above activities incur an additional cost (€11.90 for the first and €6.60 for the second). For this reason, they will remain optional activities. For those who do not wish to access the two facilities, the morning will be considered free time, to be organized independently. AFTERNOON Finally, at 3.00 PM wi will reach the meeting point to leave for our incredible adventure to Agafay, the Stone desert! The tour will include: -Guide -Welcome tea -Campfire -3 course dinner -2 traditional shows -Pool (keep in mind, tho, that is still December 😉) -Breakfast Moreover, on site, it will also be possible to choose whether to take a camel ride (Extra 25€, cash) or simply relax in the camp to watch the sunset.

Marrakesh

Tag 5-6
In the morning, we will be driven back in the Medina, for our last full day in the city! After a quick stop at the apartment we will take a walk to Jardin Majorelle (being an optional activity, those who prefer to skip it, will enjoy some free times). Later in the afternoon, around 6.30 PM, we will attend our last guided tour: THE FOOD ONE! We will taste a variety of sweet and savory delicacies, sampling between 10 and 12 specialty foods (pastries, pancakes, and soups) at multiple stops. We won't need to pay for anything during the experience. All food and drinks are included in the price. And, above everything, we will taste the favorite dishes that only locals go and eat. THE DAY AFTER Next morning, after a final breakfast together, we will leave for the airport using the shuttle service. As on the first day, a time will be chosen that suits as many people as possible. Those who decide not to use the shuttle service will be free to make their own arrangements.
